A Message From the Dead
>b>A Message from the Dead>/b>
The year was 1989; the place Wrigley Field and hope that had not been spark so brightly in Cubs fans. Pyre and Lart tht there to watch this happen, away from video cameras that could reveal what they really look like. But there was a woman there that keeps on turning her eyes on Lars and Pyre. Her name, Nancy Smith and her profession sport reporter for the Chicago Sun Times who hates her job. 'Why do I have to be here? I don't want to be in the havoc that will result from them either winning or losing. And I hope that woman will be okay...she look so familiar to me, but I can't place who she is. She looks like Jessica, but that can't be because Jessica died in a car accident,' she thinks as her eyes flick to Pyre and then to the field as a player got a stand-up double to make the score even greater in the bottom of the eighth inning. But as Nancy's eyes turn back to the field and then to her notebook to write something down, Lars watches her. Sizing her up, wondering how different things would effect her and ten to a very different question.
Lars needs to be away more and more from Pyre, as the questions of if the Sabbat are cl to to home become more and more frequent. He had taught Pyre about ghouls and how they work, but they had not found anyone yet. 'And this reporter keeps on watching Pyre as if she is worried...or as if she knows her...' He would have thought more on both subjects but as the inning ends, Pyre starts to talk to him.
"They have to win," she says a hug grin on her face. "They have a huge lead and it's their turn to win. It is!"
Lars chuckles and says into her ear as the crowd explodes as the first strike of the ninth inning is thrown on the first pitch. "Don't get your hopes up too high. And I say this with being a Cubs fan since their first World Championship win." However, the crowd goes quiet as the first batter hits a stand up double.
"You jinxed it!" Pyre yells at him, somewhat angry but deep downide, ide, she starts to doubt if they will ever win. A growing pit deep down that Pyre feels inside of herself that when Nancy looks over to Pyre, her heart breaks. As the game continues on, the Cubs hold on to win, but just barely. Fans all around start to yell, causing chaos and a riot. As soon as the game ends, Pyre and Lars start to try to get out but get separated in the process, rioting fans coming between them. Pyre falls, her cane going one way while her body goes the other way. Lars' cries to find his childe falls on deaf ears as Pyre's now advanced hearing causes her to go deaf.
But another person sees what is happening and gets to Pyre, picking her up and holding her in her arms. She quickly goes over to Lars and nods to the gentleman unknown to her as all three make their way out of Wrigley Field. As they get to somewhat calmer streets, Nancy says to Lars, "She seems okay, considering."
Lars who was lost in his own thoughts at the time stops and looks at the woman. "What is your name? And I thank you for helping my daughter."
"I'm Nancy Smith, sports reporter for the Chicago Sun Times," she replies, holding a very still Pyre in her arms and looking down as if she knows her.
He nods and thinks quickly, his movements equaling his speed in thought. His fist knows her out cold as he catches Pyre in his own arms. She moves out of his arms as he brings her quickly over to Nicole. "Pyre, the person who saved you needs help.. She got hurt on the back of hr head. All you have to do is give her some of your blood so she can heal."
"But...that's Nicole. She was once my friend but washed her hands of me. I don't want to help her."
Lars sighs and takes Pyre's hands. "Make her into something different then. Make her bettern whn what you remember her as," he says, his voice almost pleading.
Pyre bows her head and nods, slowly getting walked over to Nancy's body as Lars cuts her wrist, blood trinkling down in Nancy's mouth. Lars takes Pyre's wrist away, his touch healing the wound that the knife made.
Nancy wakes up blinking and looks at Pyre, getting up quickly and hugging her tightly. Pyre blinks at this but makes no effort to get away. "I thought you were dead," is all that Nancy says as Pyre heart melts at hearing those words. "I thought you were dead and I didn't get to tell you that I loved you and that's why I pushed you away before."
If Pyre could blink, she would have. "You...loved me?" Nancy nods a yes but then voices that. "But...but.... How could you be so mean to me then?"
"It was a front because I had to hide it someway, but I am so glad that you are back."
"Actually..." Pyre starts but then is interrupted by Lars.
"Actually, there is more to the story if you wish to follow us, Nancy." Nancy nods and lets go of Pyre but holds onto her hand so Pyre can follow.
*~*~*~*
Nancy follows them into the sewers, not asking anything as she follows Lars. 'I'm glad I told her this,' Nancy thinks as she walks with them, looking back to Pyre now and then. 'I don't want to be separated from her again,' she thinks as she looks down, hiding a small tear.
They near home and take Nancy into Pyre's haven, sitting Nancy down on the bed. "Okay...this started a while ago and after we tell you this, you can never leave. Are you willing to listen?"
Nancy nods yes very much and then stops, trying to act like a proper person would. "Yes I am."
"Good," Lars said and then started the story...
