Seeing Red

As he made his way back to the kitchen from his break, Axel went on a detour, going to the host’s station instead.
Hearing footsteps approaching him, Roxas turned, seeing the head chef walking toward him with confidence.
“Hi, Axel,” the blonde greeted, blushing at the memory of what happened earlier.
“Hey, Roxy,” the redhead growled sexily, a mischievous grin playing across his lips; he leaned against the front of the podium.
“On another break?” the host asked shyly, staring down at his book of appointments.
“Yeah,” the Flurry answered, “It’s stressful in the kitchen and I need to have a smoke every once in a while so I don’t go postal.”
Roxas chuckled, his blue eyes flitting up to meet Axel’s.
The head chef’s smirk became clear as they made eye contact.
“Well,” the redhead stated, “I better get back to the kitchen.”
As he walked past the blonde, Axel grazed his hand across Roxas’ bum, making both of them shiver.
“See ya, Roxy,” he said huskily.
The blonde gulped and shuddered, gripping the podium so tightly that his knuckles were turning white.

Once he returned to the kitchen, Axel went back to the lobster he had abandoned in his haste for a cigarette, turning on the stove again.
“Nice of you to join us,” Demyx commented frostily from inside the freezer.
Observing the former Turk, the Flurry stated,
“What’s wrong with you?”
Before Reno could respond, the blonde chef piped up,
“He’s just done brooding over you. He’s ready for someone better.”
Axel stared at Demyx unblinkingly, his eyebrows nearly disappearing into his hair.
“What?!” the blonde exclaimed, feeling uncomfortable under Axel’s gaze.
“Nothing,” the redhead answered aloofly, turning back to the boiling lobster.
Hearing angry heel steps approaching the counter, Demyx stepped forward with full plates at hand.
“Hurry up with that lobster, Ax-” the waiter in drag half-shouted, cutting himself off when he saw the blonde standing there in lieu of the redhead.
“H-hey, Zexion,” the Nocturne greeted, shakily setting down the plates of food.
“Hello, Demyx,” the Schemer replied, brushing a piece of hair out of his face.
“How’s your night going?” Number IX asked, sounding nervous.
“Fine,” Zexion answered in a bored tone, reaching out to retrieve the plates.
Unsure of what to do next, Demyx turned to Reno, who was watching the interaction with interest. The former Turk gave the blonde a stern look, urging him to say something.
Anxiously, the Nocturne faced Number VI, sweating slightly, and said hurriedly,
“You look good tonight.”
Zexion froze in place, shocked by the comment.
“Th-thanks,” he said after a few moments of awkward silence, blushing.
Feeling odd, Demyx averted his gaze, now staring at the polished kitchen floor.
After the waiter had picked up the orders and left, the blonde looked at Reno for some kind of comfort.
The former Turk merely shrugged and turned back to the meal he was preparing.
With little hope left, Demyx glanced over at Axel, who was grinning like an idiot.
“Problems?” the Flurry asked, barely holding back a snicker.
Crestfallen, the blonde went back into the freezer.
Axel’s smirk never left his features as he watched he Nocturne break.
“You’re heartless,” Reno spat, spicing a piece of meat.
“Glad you’ve noticed,” Number VIII retorted sarcastically as he added things to his pot of boiling lobster.
“You’re such a bastard,” the older redhead growled, his voice coated in malice.
“Only because I’m modeled after you,” the Flurry said cheerfully, a faux smile across his lips.
Reno snarled angrily before flinging the raw meat at the head chef.
Dodging the bloody steak with ease, Axel ducked and grabbed the pot of boiling lobster and spices by the handles.
Swiftly, he threw its contents at the former Turk, a fierce snarl consuming his features.
Unfortunately, Reno was unable to dodge it in time and ended up on the floor, the boiling water stinging; the lobster smacking him dead in the face.
Hearing the commotion, Demyx emerged cautiously from the freezer, his hair forming icicles already.
“What the hell?” he yelled as Reno was in the process of grabbing a nearby knife, a murderous gleam in his eyes.
Upon hearing the blonde’s entry, the older redhead stopped in his tracks, fingers wrapped around the handle.
Not caring about the intrusion, the Flurry grabbed a spatula from the counter and proceeded to beat Reno with it.
The former Turk covered his head instinctively, his hands and wrists receiving the worst of the blows.
“Stop it, Axel!” Demyx exclaimed, his face red from frustration.
Reno put his hands down as the beating stopped, blinking rapidly.
Before any of them could say anything, Zexion returned, his expression one of shock.
“What happened?” he asked, eyes observing the distressed kitchen.
“Don’t worry about it, Zexy,” Axel answered smoothly, an instant grin plastered across his face, “We’ll have it cleaned up.”
“Who cares? I’m off duty anyway.” And with that, the waiter turned on his heel, promptly going to the lounge for a drink.
