Riku's Tale
(Riku's POV)
My eyes slowly open to the blazing sun. I reach out with my hand, searching for his. Sadly, I know I won’t find what I am looking for. Steadily, I get over my disappointment and sit up on the beach. Panning the beach, I search for any sign of his return. I shake my head and rest my head on my folded arms on top of my knees.
“Come on Riku, you need to think about something else. You can’t just wait for him all day.” This has become a daily habit, me trying to keep my mind off of him. When the door to Kingdom Hearts closed, I had blacked out. When I woke, I found myself on the beach of my island. Kairi was right beside me. She said that Sora had promised her that he would come back. Late on the same night, Kairi and I were sitting by a fire just talking. Somehow our discussion of the weather turned into talking of the past and finally about Sora. She told me that she loved him, but she knew he didn’t feel the same. I kidded with her, telling her there was no possible way that he didn’t like her. It was then that she gave me a serious look. I remember exactly what she said.
"You have no idea how much he cares for you, do you Riku?" It floored me. I broke my gaze from hers. It was then I confessed how much I really cared for him. We then came to the agreement that I should be the one to wait for him on the beach, not her.
Usually I would just keep myself busy with things on the island, yet today something’s holding me to that spot; looking out on the beach. My heart starts to ache. I listen to my heart closely. Something’s wrong with Sora. His mind and heart are at battle. My, more like his, emotions take over me. He’s starting to question reality, but I have no idea why. I fall to my knees; he’s starting to panic. My eyes are brimming with tears and my heart is being torn apart. It is a mix of his raw emotions and me not being able to handle feeling his pain. Shivers run down my spine, he’s losing the battle. Anger pulses through me. How could he give up so easily! I know how strong he can be!
“Please Riku....don’t be angry.”
My head goes up immediately. I pan the shoreline. That voice belongs to Sora, but he is nowhere to be found. Those words bring a comfort. I know he’s questioning his reality, but those words are his link. I need to find him and help him figure out what his reality is. Yet I have no way of reaching him. My mind races with possibilities, but none of them are plausible.
“You are Sora’s link, there is always a way.” Again I search for the source of the voice; this time not knowing who it belongs to. A sudden feeling of sleepiness overtakes me. I stubble and fall face first into the beach. My eyes close against my will. Panic wants to overtake me, but it doesn’t stand a chance against the will of the unknown force.

My eyes fly open to nothing, but darkness. I can’t see anything. I suddenly remember the voice and the fear that was suppressed floods back. Where am I and who brought me here?
A light appears from up above. I try to see the source of the light, but I have no luck. As I follow the light back to the ground, something takes my breath away. Standing under that light is Sora.
“Sora!” I run to him, my eyes and mind in disbelief. He just smiles and opens his arms to me; waiting for my embrace. I near him and reach out to hold him. I close my eyes; wanting nothing more than to comfort the brunette. I fall forward and land on my stomach. I whip around to see Sora give me one last smile and disappear in a swirl of lights. Why?
“You want to help the keyblade wielder?” It’s the same voice from before. Anger is pounding against my skull. What right does this person have to tease me? They must know how much I care for Sora, since they showed him reaching out for my touch.
“What do you want from me?” I roar.
“Only for you to help the keyblade wielder. You are his link to what is real.” I stand there, not knowing what to make of the words I had just heard.
“Where’s Sora and what’s happening to him?” I don’t want to play games anymore. I only want the truth.
“Right now Sora......” The voice explains everything. My eyes widen in shock and horror. How can this be happening? Maybe if I had stayed with him, none of it would be happening. Finally when the unknown is done with its tale, I only have one question.
“How can I help him?”
“You will give him a message, but be warned, you mustn’t tell him what is actually happening; only give him a clue. The dream will be brief so you will have only a small amount of time.”
I know exactly what I am going to tell Sora. I just hope he will get the hint or it will be the death of us all.

I open my eyes once more, but this time I have to stay calm. Next to me is Kairi, but I know she isn’t real. The one I am focusing on is Sora. I decide to smirk at him even though this dream isn’t a happy one. The dream starts out with us all laughing at a joke that was never said. Sora, laughing so hard, falls out of the tree. I have to hold back a growl, I know those days of laughter are over.
“Sora!” I manage to laugh out, trying to make it sound good. Kairi goes to help Sora up; this is where the dream is going to go bad. Sora stands up and smiles at Kairi, but she doesn’t smile back. Why does the dream have to be this way? Why can’t I just warn Sora and the dream be over? I hop out of the tree and stand behind Kairi, still smirking.
“Sora,” I say, “You’re going to have to face some of your biggest fears in the near future. Be strong and don’t give in.” My throat is starting to close in on itself, trying to let out an emotion I don’t want Sora to see. I have to give him the second part of the warning before speech isn’t a possibility for me. Sora starts to question Kairi, but I have to continue.
“You will be tested Sora. A force you thought was trustworthy will try to break you. If this force gains the power it seeks, we will all suffer the consequences.” After those words leave my mouth, the fight begins and I can’t watch. All of the sudden I hear Sora scream out in pain. I turn around and see Sora lying on the ground, blood pooling on his back. I want to run to help him, but the unknown voice holds me in place with that stupid smirk on my face. Kairi gives Sora the final part of the warning, since I no longer can.
“You must succeed Sora, or you will lose everything.” Our time is up, but I’m not ready to go. I want to tell him how much I love him and help him on his path. I then see him reaching out to me and Kairi, it breaks my heart. Kairi and I disappear in a swirl of light, leaving Sora in pain and loneliness.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The force doesn’t take me back to the dark place, but sends me to my island. I can’t help, but worry about Sora. Will he get the hint or will he only worry about me? I just sit on the beach in thought; wondering if I was of any help. Catching me off guard, pain shoots through my heart. I then see the most disturbing picture I will ever see in my life. There in front of Hollow Baston is Sora and his keyblade sticking out of Kairi’s chest. My help was of no use, but I’m not about to give in. Like the voice said, I am Sora’s link, there is always a way.
RIKU!!!! I truly love his character, though not as much as Sora =3
