Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Spyro and Cynder had gotten ready to sleep, and as Spyro fell asleep, Cynder got up, walked quietly over to Spyro.
"I'm really lucky to have met you. I really must thank you for what you've done for me. Thank you, Spyro." She whispered to Spyro's sleeping figure. She then leaned forward and kissed him before walking back over to where she would sleep that night. She fell asleep shortly enough, but she wouldn't have such a peaceful rest. She soon started having a nightmare. In the dream she was having, she was staring down into a valley from a cliff, and as she looked, she couldn't believe her eyes. The once peaceful, yet barren valley that she stared down upon had become littered with blood and dead bodies as a result of a slaughter. Among the blood and corpses that were the result of the slaughter was the dead figure of none other than Terrador, the Guardian Dragon of Earth. As Cynder was looking on in horror, she was suddenly snatched up, and a strange device was fastened around her neck. Several images then flashed through the world of Cynder's dreams, including an image of Cynder laying wounded and unconscious before a shadowed mass, an image of her as she was when she was under the Dark Master's influence, and then an image of the shadowed mass from before with a sinister smile and red eyes seen through the darkness of its being. Cynder then shot awake, and was panting heavily as she got her wits about her. It was just a dream. It didn't mean anything...did it?
"Something about that dream didn't seem right. I'll have to talk to the elders about it tomorrow." She decided. She then tried to fall back asleep, only to find that she couldn't. The dream she just had had frightened her, for some reason. She needed something to comfort her. She looked around tiredly, and decided that her best bet was Spyro. She got up, and walked over to him, snuggling under his outstretched paw. The disturbance ended up waking Spyro.
"Is it morning already?" He asked after yawning. Cynder looked at Spyro as she got ready to answer.
"Sorry, I woke up unexpectedly, and couldn't get back to sleep on my own. I figured you're the best thing I've got to help me with that." She said. Being as tired as he was, it took Spyro a while to analyze the information that his brain was recieving.
"Ok, well, good night." He said when he finally understood. He then yawned, and Cynder giggled.
"Good night, Spyro." She said. Spyro smiled warmly, and as Cynder laid her head against the ground, Spyro kissed her, and then laid his head down as well. The next day, Cynder was up early to talk to Ignitus. Lucky for her, he was up as well. As Cynder approached Ignitus' house, she cleared her throat to acknowledge her presence.
"Who is it?" Asked Ignitus.
"It's me, Cynder." Replied Cynder. Ignitus then walked to the door and opened it.
"Oh, come in." He said when he saw Cynder. Cynder followed him in.
"So, what brings you to me at such an early time of day?" Asked Ignitus.
"Well, there's something that I want to talk to you about, but it's...hard to explain." Replied Cynder.
"I'm not going anywhere." Said Ignitus. Cynder smiled at his response.
"I had a dream last night, and I don't understand if it means anything. The thing is, while I knew it was a dream, I was afraid. It just seemed so real, almost as if what happened in the dream could somehow affect me in reality." She said.
"I see. Would you be so kind as to describe this dream you had?" Asked Ignitus. Cynder nodded, and began describing the nightmare. When she was done, she paused for a little while.
"So, Ignitus, to do think it could mean anything?" She asked after the pause. Ignitus pondered over the situation before answering.
"Well, Cynder, I'm afraid I only have one possibility that comes to mind, an even it may not be so accurate. You see, certain dragons have the ability to see that which is yet to come. I have never witnessed such a phenomenon, but that does not mean I do not know it to be true. You may very well be one such dragon. If this dream of yours was in fact a vision, you must be cautious. You can never be sure how far into the future such visions may show you." He said. Cynder nodded in understanding to that.
"I see. Well, thanks for your help." She said. She then headed for the door.
"Anytime Cynder." Said Ignitus. When Cynder returned to her home, Spyro was there waiting.
"What were you doing?" He asked in a curious manner.
"I was talking to Ignitus about something. Why?" Asked Cynder.
"Nothing, just wondering." Said Spyro.
"Oh, ok." Replied Cynder.
"Hey Spyro, you wanna go see if Ember and Gale are awake yet?" Cynder suddenly asked.
"Yeah, sure." Said Spyro. As they exited their home, Sparx bumped into Spyro, and fell to the ground.
"Hey, are you ok Sparx?" Asked Spyro in a concerned voice. Sparx, in response, looked up.
"Never better..." He said before falling unconscious.
"Well, he must've had a rough time." Said Spyro. Cynder just giggled at that remark. Once Sparx woke back up, Spyro and Cynder were off.
"Hey! Spyro, old buddy, old pal! Where're you off to? Getting an early morning snack? I don't exactly think you need it." Said Sparx. Spyro just turned around.
"Hilarious, simply hilarious. I see you still haven't outgrown those overweight jokes of yours. Well, they were never very funny." He said. Sparx winced at the last few words.
"Ok, sorry. Just trying to have some fun with you, that's all." He said. He then flew away.
"Well, now that there're no more distractions, can we get moving?" Asked Spyro.
"What's gotten into you all of a sudden?" Asked Cynder.
"What do you mean, Cynder?" Asked Spyro.
"You just don't seem like your normal self, that's all." Said Cynder, uncertainty apparent in her voice.
"Hey, I've been waiting to say that to him for a while now. Don't let it bother you, ok?" Asked Spyro. Cynder hesitated in answering, but eventually nodded.
"Ok then, we should be there soon." Said Spyro. Sure enough, they were there before long. When they arrived, Cynder was about to acknowledge the presence of herself and Spyro, when Ember suddenly arrived in the doorway, as if she had been expecting them.
"HI, you two!" She said quite cheerfully. Her sudden appearance startled both Spyro and Cynder, but they soon got their wits about them.
"Don't scare me like that!" Spyro yelled.
"Don't scare US like that!" Cynder yelled. Ember cringed under the weight of their words.
"Sorry, I thought you knew." She said after getting back into a steady position.
"Wait...Thought we knew what?" Asked Spyro.
"Gale! I thought you told me that they knew to expect this!" Ember suddenly yelled after turning her head toward the doorway. As a result, something ceramic could be heard breaking, and a loud 'Damn it!' soon after. Ember simply shook her head.
"Sorry about him...He's a bit uneasy about something this morning. I try to get him to sit down and talk about it, but he seems to be avoiding all conversation on the topic. It's concerning, really." She said.
"Oh, believe me. I know what it's like to get something I'm not exactly looking for at the time." Cynder said.
"Hey! What do you mean?!" Spyro asked. Cynder, in response, simply flicked Spyro's snout with her tail.
"You know what I'm talking about." She said in a voice that was unmistakable to Spyro.
"Ok...What are you up to, Cynder?" Asked Spyro.
"Nothing...Nothing at all." Said Cynder in response. No matter what she said, it was glued into Spyro's mind that Cynder must have been up to something. That's the only reason she's ever used that voice before. Soon enough, Spyro found out that he was in fact right, as he found himself on his back, with Cynder's forepaws pinning his shoulders. It seemed like Cynder, with her deep and focused gaze, was trying to penetrate that of Spyro. Cynder gave a sly, fang-baring smile, and Spyro gulped nervously.
"Uh...Cynder...What're you doing?" Spyro asked.
Spyro and Cynder had gotten ready to sleep, and as Spyro fell asleep, Cynder got up, walked quietly over to Spyro.
