The next night, there was a knock at Lars' door. He looks over to where Pyre should be but knowing she's not there. 'I hope she's okay,' Lars thinks to himself with a sigh. The knock comes again as he yells at it, "I'm coming. Keep your heart in your chest."
When he opens the door, he sees Pyre and a small part of his heart is lifted. And he notices some sadness around her as he looks down to her outstretched hand, and in that hand is a letter for him with Alexander's writing on it. "I'm sorry about last night," she says softly with her head bowed. "I really didn't know. It wasn't to make you look like a fool." And she turns and walks away, to leave Lars with the letter.
Lars watches her leave and then quickly looks down to the letter. 'She knows something, but I'll let her keep her secret for a while. As for this letter, is it really from Alexander? He knows that I have a horrible temper...Pyre. She looked okay considering what I did to her. I should go see how she is instead of just shunning her like this. She did say she was sorry.' Lars reluctantly puts down the letter onto his desk and walks out of his haven towards hers. After the short walk, he looks at the door to her haven staring it down in a way. He cannot hear anything coming out of her door and is almost afraid to knock on it. But Lars summons up the courage from deep inside of himself, and after about three minutes knocks on her door.
"It's open!" is all that she yells at him as Lars opens the door. Sitting at her desk and running a sort of debugging system on the entire mainframe. She quickly recognizes her sire's footsteps and stands as he enters. "Um...sir, I did not know it was you. If I was disrespectful or anything else, I'm sorry. In all truth, I'm sorry that I'm such a disgrace to you. If you want me to leave, I will and you will never hear from me again...it would be like I disappeared off of the face of the Earth."
Lars nods at this and mmhs, thinking it over a little but in reality its only a couple of seconds. "Jess...Pyre, I do not want you to leave. Where would you go and who would take you in? Also, there are monsters out there that you need to be protected from and some you must be protected from." He stops and sighs, looking at her and then suddenly takes her into a hug. "Stay, Pyre. Alexander has gone to a darker side, and Jamie has killed herself in the sun. You are the only one I have left and I don't want to lose you." If Pyre could see, she would see the tears shinning in his eyes.
"I'm not going to leave you silly...erm, sire."
He chuckles and gently pats her head. "Stop with the titles Pyre. They are not important between close friends and relatives."
"Lars, my mother and father..." she starts to say before he cuts her off.
"They think you are dead, Pyre. And they also have moved to Springfield. Also, how would you explain your sudden blindness to them?" Pyre nods a yes, as she can find no words to say. "I know it is hard for you, Pyre, it was the same for me when I was first embraced. I was close to my family but it is better to let go now than later."
She nods again and sits down hard in the chair she was sitting in when Lars came in. "I guess...yeah. I have work to do," she says softly and turns back to the computer.
"Of course, my dear," he says as he pats her shoulder and leaves her to her work. But he also leaves her to her fears and the black onyx eyes that watch from the shadows.
