"It would have been worth it," Chris said boldly. "Just to know you'd be okay, I mean..."
Ash blushed red with embarrassment. "Yeah... Well, I meant what I said, too. You'd already saved me once, I would have been willing to sacrifice myself for you."
Chris laughed nervously. "Well... We're just lucky it didn't actually come to that."
"Yeah," she replied. Ashley's heart was about to burst after everything they'd been through. Her stomach was still churning from her fight-or-flight instinct, making her a little braver and more honest than she typically was with him. "Only good thing about tonight... It really made me appreciate how much I need you."
