I hid behind a tree while I watched as Inquisitor Yerald was locked in an epic struggle. She had gone up ahead with orders for me to wait for her until she returned. However, I had heard what sounded like a struggle, so I valiantly moved forward to make sure she was not in danger. The average viewer, who could sense nothing of psychic powers or their side effects, would possibly construe the whole scene as something else then what is was. Especially since the sheer force of there assault had ripped mere armor and wards asunder, let alone normal clothing. Their bodies were pressed tightly against the other, as they struggled to gain dominance over one another, hoping it would give them the edge. To the uninformed interloper, this scene would probably look like some sort of impromptu Sapphic tryst. But a cursory glance at their faces provided sufficiently contrary information; the intense looks of hatred and loathing made it clear, as they focused the powers of the warp into weapons and dueled. Though the Xenos witches are known for the prodigious strength in such dark and twisted arts, it was clear that my Inquisitor was at least of equal strength as she countered each blow that was thrown at her.
She forced herself harder on the witch as Yerald placed herself into a position of dominance and exerted a greater pressure on the farseer known as Keraiel. The Xenos cried out in pain as she was forced into the ground and my Inquisitor rejoiced as the tide of battle changed. It was clear that she was well trained and a simple witch could not defeat her many years of experience in these matters. Yet Xenos witches are known for tenacity and guile, and she proved that, as she forced her tongue into the open mouth of my Inquisitor, trying to gain the advantage in her weak position. Yet, such simple tricks would not work on such a dedicated servant of the Imperium. She responded in kind and showed the arrogant xenos that we will not fall so easily to such underhanded tricks.
Their faces were locked as the intensity of the battle increased, yet the stalemate continued. I could see the energy between the two as the ground shook beneath their combined psychic onslaught, I was almost knocked to the ground by the tremors, but I held my ground. I was determined to rush in and assist my Inquisitor if she called me. But I knew her wrath to be great if I barged in uninvited, so I stood hidden, and ready for her call. Nonetheless I kept myself in combat readiness, ready to outflank the farseer when it was needed.
Throughout the course of the long struggle, they each tried to use various deceitful fighting techniques, ranging from creative use of foul xenos wraithbone to even secret martial arts taught by the callidus in subduing the enemy up close and personal. The long and exhausting struggle was reaching the climax as they redoubled their efforts in an attempt to subdue the other first. The psychic scream as the battle had finally reached its zenith had knocked me out. When I awoke, I saw my Inquisitor dusting herself off and putting on her grass stained raiment’s. She informed me, angrily, that the Xenos Witch had performed one final act of treachery and escaped before she was able to capture her. I was thanked for my vigilance and we set off again.
