Chapter 6
He was sitting in the same place as before checking on his gunshot wound, still handcuffed to the heavy couch.
“How is it?” Snake asked, just loading a clip into his gun and sliding it’s barrel back to cock it. He thumbed the safety a few times and wondered about what Hal said. Would it sit well with the man if he killed this person? What were the risks of letting him live?
The man looked up. "Hurts like hell.." he said before looking back down. "Got a cigarette...?"
Snake nodded and handed one over before running a hand through his hair. “You know we’re being hunted down by the authorities, don’t you?” Snake asked, at least trying to simplify this for Hal.
The man took it and looked around for a light. "Really now?"
He could and did have the courtesy of at least lighting up the man’s cigarette before he killed him. “I can’t let you tell anyone we’re here. I can’t risk that.”
"What do you have to live for?" He asked taking a drag. "Besides that scientist."
“To give something back to mankind they don’t even realize they’ve lost yet.” He replied, wondering about the man’s question. “But it’s the scientist mostly, yes, why do you ask?”
He took another drag. "Just askin'" he said coming to terms he wasn't going to live. "If you're going to shoot me go ahead. The government will deny my existence anyway…"
“Why is that?” He asked, truly curious.
The man shook his head. "That's how it works."
At this Snake released him. “Vanish. I WILL look you up, you better register as dead.” He warned, with all the intention.
The man looked at him. He sighed in relief softly and stood up. "Can you undo these?"
Snake put the safety back and released something on the clip before putting the gun away and undoing what the man needed. “We don’t exist, you were killed on your way somewhere else by an unknown entity.”
The man nodded and limped towards the door. "Got it."
“There’s an umbrella there… you’ll need a cane.” He added when he saw the limp as it made him feel uncomfortable: Hal would limp like that when they first met.
"Nah I'll live..I've been through worse." he said opening the door and walking out into the cold winter morning.
“That’ll work in your advantage.” Snake replied as he saw him off. He stared after him, making sure he was gone and nowhere he could come back and hurt Hal… Then again he looked smarter than that.
Hal walked out wearing his warm robe. "What's going on?" he asked.
“He helped me out.” Snake said, showing Hal the full clip before going to hold him like a puppy who brought his master a bone and shows it as if saying ‘Look at what I did for you!’
Hal smiled proudly. "He did?" he asked.
“Yeah… He did.” He concluded as he came to Hal and wrapped his arms gently around him to hold onto him.
Hal smiled and kissed him softly. "I'm proud of you."
“Thank you.” Snake kissed him back.
