Promise
(Sora's POV)
My mind went totally blank. I can’t form words. Things don’t make sense anymore. How did Kairi get here? Is she going to try and kill me like she did in my dream?
“Hello, Sora” Fear envelops me. Her tone of voice is hard and cold, like her soul has left an empty shell behind. I dismiss my keyblade, now lying on the ground, and stand with shaky legs.
“K..Kai…Kairi? How did you get here? Are you ok?” She just stands there, with a smirk on her face. I try to walk towards her, but something’s making it hard.
“Sora, remember what you promised me?” I stand still. My mind races for said promise. Finally, I rember.
Kairi, remember what you said before? Well, I’ll always be with you too and I’ll come back to you. I promise!
“Kairi, I will come back, I just need to find Riku first.” Her grin quickly fades. Kairi’s grip on the sword tightens and fear pumps through my veins. Why is she so upset? I know I promised her that I would come back, but it’s going to take some time before I find Riku.
“I know you might be lonely, but please be patient. I’m trying my hardest.” She just glares at me.
“That’s not good enough. I trusted you Sora; trusted that you loved me! But it seems to me that you care more about him than you do me! YOU WERE JUST PLAYING GAMES WITH ME WHILE ALL ALONG YOU WERE LUSTING AFTER HIM!!” I take a step back as Kairi yells at me. Why is she acting this way? She has no right to judge me. I never claimed that I loved her. She assumed that!!
“This....this isn’t right! I would never play with your feelings like that! You’re my friend Kairi and I’ve been nothing, but honest with you!” Anger is starting to bubble inside me. She’s acting so stupid and has no reason to be that way.
“He doesn’t deserve you Sora! I’m the one that loves you!” She lungs at me with her blade, just like she had in my dream. I suddenly remember Riku’s warning.
Sora, he said, You’re going to have to face some of your biggest fears in the near future. Be strong and don’t give in. Could he have been talking about Kairi? I have no time to think. I summon my keyblade and dodge Kairi. She doesn’t expect me to move and stubbles forward. Kairi quickly spins around and puts both hands on her sword.
“I don’t want to fight you Kairi!” My pleas aren’t reaching her and she runs at me again. I can’t dodge this time; having to block her attack with my keyblade. She keeps pushing down on my keyblade; forcing me down onto my knees. I have to think of a plan and fast or Kairi’s going to kill me. Having me at a disadvantage, Kairi leans into my face and whispers.
“He will never love you. He only wants you because I do.” For a brief moment my heart skips a beat. Kairi had just admitted that Riku wants me; possibly even loves me. The seconds tick by and my surprise is replaced with rage. This girl really knows nothing about me or Riku; she didn’t spend her entire life with him.
I push on my keyblade with all my strength, knocking back Kairi a couple of steps. I then turn the tables by lunging at her. She turns so that her back and mine were up against each other. I try to turn to face her, but she matches my move. Swiftly, I take my keyblade and as she tries to turn, I trip her. Unfortunately, she doesn’t fall like I plan; back flipping out of the way. We are back where we started; staring each other down. I can no longer stand the sight of her. What the hell does she know about me?
We start to run at each other; each holding our weapons out for a final strike. As we cross paths, I look over at Kairi. To my surprise, she has a smirk on her face. That’s my breaking point. I put the keyblade off to the side, hitting her in the stomach and knocking the air out of her. I then spin around and give her the exact same slice down her back. She stumbles forward in pain, but I don’t care. She looks up at me; fear in her eyes, but it’s too late. My keyblade goes in for the final strike. Suddenly I hear the large doors open. I look over and see Aerith coming out; food tray in hand. She looks over my way and drops the tray in horror. Aerith falls to her knees and starts to cry uncontrollably. I suddenly remember where I am and my anger subsides. I look down at where the end of my keyblade. Shock and nausea hit me all at once. There on her knees was Kairi, with my keyblade sticking out from her chest. Her hands fall to her sides; her eyes are glazing over. I drop my keyblade instantly. What have I done? I drop to my knees; rage and anguish overtaking me. Placing my hands over my ears with eyes turned down in horror, I scream.
Please, if you like Kairi, don't kill me!! I really do like the girl, but I really couldn't see a way around doing this!
