Chapter Six
His coat and armor off, Cervantes stood in front of his body mirror. Turned to the side slightly. Inspecting his lower back. Knowing that he possessed no mark anywhere else on his body. There was just his back to inspect. He wondered if the scar on his lower back was the mark in which the woman in his dreams spoke of. He remembered gaining that scar in battle with the warrior woman, Taki.
Motioning his eyes over to his left shoulder he could barely see another mark. One he had forgotten about. It was a tattoo he had of a scorpion. If he remembered correctly had a protection significance in ancient Egypt. Wore as on the top of the golden goddess’s headdress. Selket was the goddess of Protection in Ancient Egypt.
He paused in his searching when there was a knock at his door.” Come.” He said. Slipping his vest coat on. When the door opened, Kore stood there in the clothing that was given to her. Her hair was up in two buns on each side of her head. His jaw seemed to drop slightly. She looked beautiful.
He stared for a second before speaking.” Uh….. come in…take a seat at desk.” He offered. Gesturing to the desk with sea food, wine, two plates, and grapes. Kore smiled as she looked at the food and took a seat. Cervantes taking a seat across from her.
He poured himself some wine and looked at her. Gesturing to her goblet. She nodded ,”Please.” She said. And watched as he poured some wine into her glass.
There was a moment’s silence, then Cervantes cleared his throat.” You may eat anything you see.” He said and served himself.
He glanced over at her. She collected a little bit of shrimp, crab, and to his surprise…a shit lot of grapes.” What?” She asked. Noticing that he stared.
“ Nothing….I’ve just never seen anyone who loved grapes that much.” He said.” They say that fruit is the delights of a goddess.” He stated.
“ I’ve never heard that one before.” Kore said, and took a sip of the wine.” So are you still puzzled by me?” She asked.
“Over whelmingly so.” Cervantes answered.” Fist of all. I would like to ask. What in the shit were you doing floating in open waters?” He asked.
“ I was wondering when you’d ask. I was with my adoptive mother and my father. We were sailing towards the New world. We sailed into a heavy and deadly storm. Our Captain tried to go towards a Greek Island near by. But our sails were torn. We crashed into a set of sharp rocks. All I remember is my father throwing me over the side into the water. And tossing me a piece of wood to keep a float. That’s all I remember.” She explained.
Cervantes watched her closely and nodded.” Where did you find that hat you wore on your head?” He asked.
“ The one that you wear now?” Cervantes nodded,” It was floating beside the ship earlier that day. We fished it out and I wanted to keep it. So I wore it. I had no idea it belonged to you.” She said.
Cervantes shrugged and took a sip of wine, before eating some of the fish on his plate. He noticed, Kore eating too.” So how old are you, Kore?” He asked.
“ Twenty.” She answered,” Why?”
“ No reason, just curious, that’s all.” He answered.
“ And how old are you?”
“ Stopped ageing at forty eight.”
Kore smiled,” Don’t mind me saying this but you look pretty good for your age.” She said softly.
Cervantes chuckled,” Thanks. You’re not too bad looking yerself. “ He said and brought a smile and blush to her face. A good sign in his eyes. But did he want to take her yet? Or wait?
