Chapter 6
Florescent lighting has always given me a headache and I can’t even begin to imagine why anybody would want it in their building. I squint my eyes and look down at my hands in my lap, toying with the leather strap wrapped around them loosely.
My eyes follow the black lead up to Roxas’ innocent face, staring forward, still and obedient. The collar locked tightly around his neck looks very natural on him, like it is supposed to be there. I reach up and adjust his shirt, hiding it more completely. The small metal clasp peeks out of the back of the collar to his blue shirt, causing it to bend slightly as the leather strap spills down his back and into my gripped hand.
I don’t usually bring my assistants with me to client’s offices but there is a correction to be made. Regardless of the lesson learned, my client still received that tainted letter only a few days later.
I watch Roxas’ eyes wander over to the vending machine, a look of hunger in his eyes. I sigh and reach into my coat pocket, removing a small red candy. Placing it into the palm of my hand, I offer it to him for being so well behaved. His eyes brighten with the excitement of a child and he bends his head to receive his reward, tracing his tongue gently over my palm before licking the candy from its place. I swallow hard and grip my hand tightly, capturing the moisture as I return it to my lap, waiting for my client to emerge.
My eyes leave Roxas’ joyful sucking on the candy and to the opening door in the waiting room. My client, Xemnas steps forward and bows to me with a respectful smile.
“Hello Axel…I have been waiting for your arrival…”
I nod slowly and stand, giving the leash a soft jerk as I approach Xemnas. Roxas jumps slightly and follows me obediently into my client’s office. He seems awed at the sight of him. His long silver hair travels over his shoulders in elegant waves against his white laboratory coat. His tanned skinned gives an interesting contrast to his unique sunset colored eyes. I put light pressure on the leash again, reminding Roxas of his behavior.
I seat myself casually into the chair in front of Xemnas at his desk and without even having to ask, Roxas takes a seat on the floor next to my chair. Xemnas looks at him curiously and then glances at me as I smile like nothing out of the ordinary is going on.
“Right then….well, shall we go over the case again Axel? I can’t have this failed experiment with Saix get out of hand, you know.”
“Yes of course Dr. Xemnas, don’t worry…this case is in the bag. It’s not your fault Saix ended up in a mental institution for thinking he is a werewolf. A few misplaced chemicals don’t do that to people, their own insanity does.” I laugh, remembering his partner Saix, growling at me like an unruly dog when I first met him.
Xemnas hands me a stack of report papers and I read over them carefully. As my client turns his attention towards his records again, I allow my eyes to wander to Roxas on the floor next to me. His legs are crossed and his hands rest on the floor much like a pet. He glances around the room curiously, eyeing the strange paintings on the wall, mostly of people strapped to exam tables and scientists watching curiously as a man that appears to be a surgeon holds the patient’s heart in his hand. It’s sick if you ask me but my client is a different kind of scientist I guess. I don’t ask too many questions, I just keep him out of jail.
The meeting continues and I am pulled from my bored state of mind with the feeling of Roxas’ hand slowly tracing up my leg. I nudge him angrily, promising myself a firm beating for him later. Suddenly, the speaker comes on in the office.
“Dr. Xemnas you are needed in laboratory four…please report to laboratory four immediately to assist Dr. Vexen.”
His eyes widen and he rises from his seat quickly. “You will have to please excuse me Axel sir, can we finish this meeting another time?”
“Yes of course, we will return later…Roxas?”
Roxas straightens himself into a standing position and holds out his hand to Dr. Xemnas. “Hello sir, I am sorry for the typos.”
Xemnas raises an eyebrow and takes his hand in a brief shake, obviously not knowing or caring about what typos were made. It’s the formality that counts though.
I wrap the leash strap around my hand again and gently pull Roxas along with me as we exit the office.
“Very good Roxas. Perhaps I will overlook your inappropriate wanderings from earlier if you continue this behavior.”
He smiles softly and nods, padding along next to me as we approach my car back to my own office.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Slamming my car door, I tug Roxas along with me and as we stop at the front door, I look at him sternly.
“Roxas…”
His eyes widen as he remembers his orders, dropping to his hands and knees swiftly. I enter the softly lit room of my lobby and hang my coat up, making my way back to my desk.
“Good boy…now take care of these papers from Dr. Xemnas for me.”
I bend down and insert the papers between his teeth, smiling down at him as he begins to crawl down the hall towards the copy room. My lips part slightly at the sight of his body, slinking across the floor like my loyal pet. I shrug and shut the door to my office behind me, wandering over to my orchids and flicking on the misters. My eyes wander over the garden’s elegant beauty and Roxas’ picture fitting in so nicely, covered in droplets of water now.
Sitting down on my small leather couch, I grab my book, “The Phoenix and the Nightingale” and slip my black glasses over my eyes to read something other than cases for once. I lean back into the cushions, feeling very comfortable and the beautiful text pulls me into its grasp.
My eyes suddenly turn from my reading to hear Roxas, push the door open with his nose and crawl into my office, copied papers in his mouth. He rises to his knees and places the files on my desk neatly. His soft blue eyes find me and brighten as he prowls toward me slowly. I eye him carefully and find myself wanting to just be close to him.
He sits calmly at my feet and stares up at my admiringly. I smile and trace my fingers through his feathers of blonde, stroking him lovingly. He tilts his head like a pleasured cat and closes his eyes, losing himself in my caresses. Retracting my hand, he straightens himself and smiles as I pat the spot next to me.
He rises to his knees and climbs onto the couch next to me, curling up into a ball to get comfortable. I bite the inside of my lips anxiously as he lays his head in my lap, nuzzling me softly as he closes his eyes to fall into a gentle slumber. Normally I would not allow this but for some reason, I just don’t want to hurt him today. His breathing sounds almost like purring and I smile, making myself comfortable again and reading to myself to escape the reality of what I might be feeling for Roxas.
Roxas’ blonde hair falls playfully in his angelic face as he grips the bars of his cage, pressing his body against the gaps and moaning lustfully. I reach out for his writhing body, watching white wings spread across his back like a released bird. He cries out my name as I unlock the cage and pull him from his prison. His wings wrap around my body tightly and his lips taste sweeter than any blossom thriving in the freshest spring.
“Master please…”
His moans deafen me as I lay him down and make love to him more passionately than I ever thought possible.
“My…sweet nightingale…”
“Sir?…”
Roxas voice penetrates the darkness and my eyes flutter open, realizing I had fallen asleep while reading, with Roxas in my lap. I blink back to focus on the reality before me and find myself uncomfortably aroused.
I turn my embarrassed gaze to Roxas sitting next to me, legs crossed and hands folded in his lap.
“What time is it Roxas?” I do what I can to avoid my unpleasant awakening.
“It’s…six o’clock sir…I closed down the office….I was, just waiting for you to wake up so that I may go home if you wish.”
I swallow and think to myself that I really don’t want him to go but it’s better that he does.
“Yes…well then…” I start and silence myself as I remove the collar from his neck, allowing my fingers to linger around his heated skin.
“What are you having for dinner Roxas?”
“Sir? Dinner?” His voice is quiet and confused.
“Ha, Yes, will you be eating tonight?”
He laughs softly. “Yes, I will.”
“Ok then what are you going to eat?” I laugh with him at my own odd question.
“Um, I think I’m going to have some fried noodles, steamed vegetables, snow peas and scallions I believe and some soup. Oh and maybe some sea salt ice cream!” His voice sounds excited at the mention of dessert.
“Alright then, you will have, eight noodles, three snow peas, a tablespoon of soup and as much ice cream as you like.” I decide if I cannot take him home with me, I will extend my demands to his home.
His lips part slightly and his eyes take on a half-lidded appearance, obviously seduced by my orders. Nodding slowly, he rises from his crouched position on my couch and meets me face to face as I join him to leave. Without thinking, I take his chin between my fingers and lean down to press my lips to his. He yields to me willingly and sighs, allowing me to caress his soft mouth. I feel myself wanting more from this and pull away from him slowly, tasting his sweetness on my lips before clearing my throat uncomfortably.
“Goodnight Roxas…”
Turning towards the door, I grab my coat and prepare to leave for the evening. I catch sight of him reaching up to touch his lips as he gathers his belongings and follows me into the darkness.
