Holy Matrimony

A/N: The anniversaries are being counted from their first ‘encounter’ not the reunion three years later. And the italics bit at the beginning are Sora’s memories.

Chapter 6: Holy Matrimony

So, tell me in your own words exactly what happened.”

“Well it all started when I met Riku…

…he was gonna kill him! He couldn’t breathe. I had to do something. I just panicked. I never meant to kill him!”

“Please calm down Mr. Everheart, we are not calling you a murderer, we are just trying to find out what happened.”

“Well after I shot him Riku fell back on the bed. I felt so relieved; I didn’t even notice Tidus was dying. After a few minutes I heard sirens. Turns out a neighbour who had heard the gunshot had called the police and an ambulance. They put Tidus on a stretcher and I was arrested. Now I’m stuck in this stupid room because I tried to save the man I loved!”

“We know this was self-defence, you are not being charged. If Tidus had died it would be a different story.”

What do you mean ‘if’? He isn’t dead?! I’ve been sitting in this fucking room feeling like a bloody murderer and he isn’t dead! Why didn’t you tell me?!”

“Please calm down sir.”

“I need to see Riku. Is he here?”

“He’s right outside; I’ll take you to see him now. And you might want to put some clothes on.”

--

“Sora, come out and look at me.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I look stupid.”

“You could never look stupid.”

“Do I have to come out?”

“Yes or I will have to cancel our reservations.”

“But it’s our anniversary! Our tenth anniversary!”

“Well then you better come out.”

--

“Thanks for the dinner Riku. This is our best anniversary yet!”

“Let’s hope it’s not our last.”

“What?”

“Sora I have to ask you something.”

“Riku what are you doing?”

“Sora, we’ve known each other for a long time now and it’s been exactly ten years since we first slept together. We have a wonderful kid and I’ve never been happier. But I feel like something’s missing. Like there could be more. And I don’t think I can ever be complete without asking you this. Sora, will you marry me?”

“Oh god Riku, are you serious?”

“Is that a no then?”

“What no! of course not! It’s a yes!”

--

My frown turned to a smile as I remembered that moment exactly a year ago. That was one of the best nights of my life. I can’t believe it’s been eleven years since we first had sex. I’m 28. I feel so old.

“Sora, are you ok?”

I looked up at Leon and nodded. I couldn’t believe the day was finally here. I was getting married! I felt a little self conscious in a dress though. Tidus had forced me to wear it. Odd how that worked out. After Tidus recovered from his injury he was different. It took a long time for him to accept Riku but eventually they managed to get along without killing each other.

“Sora, you need to put on the veil now. Are you ready to do this?”

--

Riku stood at the altar, chatting quietly to Cloud.

“You ok man? You look a little nervous.”

“I’m fine, really.”

Cloud looked at him disbelievingly.

“Ok so I’m scared shitless, you happy now?”

“There’s nothing to be worried about, you and Sora are perfect for each other.”

“Thanks. So how’d Leon like the dress?”

“He couldn’t stop laughing.” Cloud scowled and crossed his arms.

“Well you are maid of honour. You’re supposed to look like a bride’s maid, and an idiot.”

Cloud glared at Riku who was turning red from the effort not to laugh. The ‘maid of honour’ was wearing a deep blue, off-the-shoulder dress that came down to his mid-calf. His body was a bit muscular for the dress though, other than that it didn’t look too bad.

“I wonder what Sora looks like in a dress.” Riku pondered dreamily.

“Amazing.” Cloud whispered.

The band began playing and Riku span around, gasping when he saw Sora. The brunet stood in the doorway, his arm linked with Leon’s.

He was wearing a white, strapless dress that reached his ankles. Around the waist was a wide, cream coloured ribbon, highlighting Sora’s toned stomach. On his arms were white gloves that reached his elbows. His hair has been straightened and a veil placed over his head. He looked beautiful, perfect.

Sora took a deep breath and slowly took his first step down the isle. Leon smiled reassuringly at him and led him onwards towards Riku. The brunet was trying hard not to trip in white, knee-length boots.

‘How do girls walk around in heels all day? It fucking hurts!’ Sora cursed, trying to calm his racing heart.

Tidus stared at Sora as he reached the altar. He was lucky to be alive, let alone Sora’s best man! He had accepted Riku along time ago. He realised now that the platinum blond could give Sora something he could never get from himself. The brunet looked stunning in his wedding dress. Riku was one lucky guy.

Riku straightened his suit nervously and smiled softly at Sora. Leon released his arm and moved to stand by Cloud. The blond scowled at Leon who got to wear a suit while he was forced to wear a dress.

“You look like an angel.” Riku whispered gently in Sora’s ear, causing the brunet to blush lightly.

“Are you ready to begin?” The priest asked the couple.

Sora nodded and placed his small hands in Riku’s larger ones.

“Now as I’m sure you all know we are here today to join Sora Everheart and Riku Hellion in holy matrimony. Their hearts are pure and will soon be joined as one.”

Leon coughed loudly to disguise his urge to laugh at the word ‘pure’. The priest looked at him sceptically before turning back to the couple. Sora blushed and Riku had a small smirk on his face.

“I see. Well then, you seem to be already joined as one in every sense but in the eyes of god. You will be joined in every way by the end of today.”

“Yeah, that sounds better.” Riku chuckled and squeezed Sora’s hands lightly.

“Good. Now then Riku, repeat after me. I Riku...”

“I Riku…”

“Take thee Sora…”

“Take thee Sora…”

“To be my lawfully wedded husband in sickness and in health…”

“To be my lawfully wedded husband in sickness and in health…”

“Till death do us part.”

“Till death do us part.”

“Now Sora, your turn.”

“I Sora, take thee Riku, to be my lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, till death do us part.”

“Good. Now do we have the rings?”

Asaba smiled when he realised his part in the ceremony had come. The boy slowly walked up to the altar, holding the rings on a cushion. He looked adorable in his ruffled suit; his silver hair that spiked in all directions seemed to defy gravity. He had inherited Sora’s cuteness and innocence and looked a lot younger than ten.

The priest smiled at the young boy and took the rings off the cushion. He handed one to each of the males.

“Before we exchange the rings I have to ask one thing. If anyone objects to the joining of this couple, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.”

Riku looked at Sora, worry in his eyes. Both lovers held their breath while silence rang out in the hall. The platinum blond looked nervously over Sora’s shoulder at Tidus. The younger blond shook his head and stepped back into his lover’s embrace. He had chosen the redhead over Sora, realising that he was better off with Wakka.

“Well if no one objects, thank god, then I shall continue. Sora, do you wish to take Riku as your lawfully wedded husband, to be joined in holy matrimony till the end of your lives?”

“I do.” Sora gave his trademark grin and slid the white gold band onto his lover’s finger.

“And do you Riku, wish to take Sora-“

“You bet I do.” Riku smirked and winked at the brunet, causing the hall to chuckle quietly as Riku placed the ring on Sora’s delicate finger.

“Well then, you may kiss the bride.”

Riku slowly lifted the veil over the brunet’s head before suddenly sweeping him off his feet and kissing him passionately. Sora gasped, the only thing supporting him was Riku’s arms. People whistled and cheered as Sora wrapped his arms around the blond’s neck, allowing his tongue to thoroughly explore his mouth.

Moments later the platinum blond pulled away and grabbed Sora by the hand, pulling him down the isle. They reached the exit to the church and ran down the stone steps. Sora giggled with joy next to Riku as people threw confetti over them and the males following them.

Asaba ran as fast as he could, trying to catch up with his parents. He jumped as high as his size would let him and wrapped his arms around Riku’s neck, getting a face full of confetti. Sora smile grew even wider at the site of his two favourite people in the world covered in the colourful paper.

The brunet tossed the bouquet high into the air and watched as Cloud jumped up to catch it. Leon caught the blond effortlessly and grinned as the smaller man waved the bouquet in the air, overjoyed at having caught it.

Sora and Riku soon reached the limo that had come to pick them up and climbed inside, Leon and Cloud behind them followed by Tidus and Wakka. Asaba sat on Sora’s lap and purred as the platinum blond next to them stroked his hair tenderly. The newly wed brunet had never been happier as the limo pulled out and drove towards their reception party.

--

“Speech, speech!” Everyone cried out as Riku tapped his glass with a fork.

The platinum blond stood up and began to speak.

“I would like to make a toast, to my husband Sora.”

“To Sora!”

“I met Sora eleven years ago. My parents had just kicked me out of the house.”

“We said we were sorry about that!” The embarrassed couple exclaimed.

“Anyway, I was glad in a way. My parents being over protective wouldn’t let me date till I was eighteen. They wouldn’t even let me be alone with someone in my room unless the door was open.”

“It was for your own good. You’re not supposed to have sex before marriage!”

“So as I was walking along in the rain with no cash and no hope, this nice young man pulls over and asks if I need a ride. Of course by the end of the night we were in bed together, much to the horror of my parents I’m sure. I woke up alone the next morning; all that was left was a note telling me he was in love with someone else. Which did hurt just a little bit, knowing the guy I lost my virginity to was probably off fucking someone else.”

“Sorry.” Sora whispered from his seat next to Riku.

“Don’t worry babe. So I left the room to find Leon and Cloud practically screwing each other in the lift. They gave me some money from Sora, which did kinda make me feel like a whore but anyway, I used it to make a new life.”

Riku chuckled when he realised that everyone was listening intently to his story.

“Three years later I bumped into Sora again. I had just broken up with my girlfriend ‘cause I refused to marry her and she didn’t believe in sex before marriage. Me and Sora got back together again and I was the happiest I’d ever been. I got the most wonderful guy in the world and the cutest kid. When I saw my little Sora standing at the end of the isle today he looked like angel. My angel, who I get to spend the rest of my life with.”

Riku sat down at this point, smiling at the cheers he received. Now it was Sora’s turn to make a speech.

“Ok now I know you’re all wondering how Asaba was born seeing as me and Riku are both guys. Well the truth is I’m a neutral. I’m a guy yet I have certain, uh, womanly parts inside of me. I know that some of you might be bothered by this but hopefully it won’t change the way you look at me. I know that Riku doesn’t look at me any differently, and Asaba couldn’t ask for a better dad. Riku, I’ve always regretted leaving you in that hotel alone. But what’s done is done, and right now I have all I need right here in this room.”

Riku kissed Sora on the cheek as he sat down. Everybody then turned their attention to the stage as the dj began playing music.

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
I want to vanish inside your kiss
Every day I'm loving you more and more.

Riku offered Sora his hand and led him onto the dance floor, pulling him closer.

Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing
Come back to me, and forgive everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time.

Other couples began to join the two lovers now. Sora smiled and put his head on Riku’s shoulder, he loved this song.

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Riku wished he could stay in Sora’s arms forever. Right then, in that moment, everything was as it should be.

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you
And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather
And stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day
