Lost In A Dream
I WISH I owned LoD, but I don't, so...no Albert for me. *sob*
“We-elll…she also managed,” Manda’s voice was getting lower and her face redder, “to catch a man who’s intelligent and sexy, which I find near impossible in my time.”
Albert had been listening this with a sexy half smile, and Manda could tell that he knew damn well what he was going to say.
“Not to mention, you have the most comfortable bed I’ve ever been in.” As if to emphasize the point, she moaned in bliss as she fell back onto the pillows, making Albert laugh as he flipped over on top of her.
“If you say so, it must be true, then.”
“Oh, I do. How long do you think we can stretch this exquisitely comfortable dream out?” Manda turned to face him for his answer. She knew she loved him, but wasn’t quite sure on his part. For all she knew, he could have been forced there every time he dreamed.
“Oh, forever, I wish…”
Lisa’s eyes widened. He was seeing someone else…well, not really, in technical terms, but still- he was!
“Albert? You said you’d be in here, now where are you?”
Emille’s voice fluttered through the door crack. It was time to wake Albert up, before she came in to do it. Lisa walked over beside him, and shook him.
“Albert, you have to wake up now.”
She shook him again, with no result. Her eyes narrowed. Was it just her or did it look as if the other side of the bed had an occupant as well? No, it couldn’t be…she was just imagining things.
“Albert, wake up!”
In another time period, and another place, Erin was having this exact same problem. She’d gotten her fill of blackmail, all she wanted now was sleep so she was actually not a zombie tomorrow.
“Manda, wake up!”
Erin grabbed the sheets, yanking them from over her.
“C’mon, you’re really scaring me, so wake up, please…”
“Albert, wake up, please…I apologize for drugging you if that’s what this is about. You’re scaring me…”
Lisa leaned her head over his chest. He was breathing, he just wasn’t waking.
“Dear Soa, please help me! Albert, wake up!”
“Manda, I swear if you get up RIGHT NOW I won’t use this tape as blackmail. I promise it. But it’s gotta be now.”
Okay, she didn’t know what to do. Time to call someone who did. Her fingers flew across the hotel phone.
“Yes, 911? I’m at the Luxor in room 111, and my friend won’t wake up…yes, I’ve tried, she’s still unresponsive…okay, thanks. Manda, you seriously owe me.”
The doctor (who Lisa thought was a phony) leaned over Albert, looking over him.
“And he’s been like this two hours? With nothing in his system?”
“He hasn’t gotten much sleep lately, I was here to check and see why. And yes, two hours with nothing in his system except the potion he took.”
“A reaction, perhaps…”
“I doubt it! Do something, you pompous-”
“I am trying. For now, I do not know what to do.”
“Patient name?”
“Manda Guerin.”
“How long has she been like this, that you know of?”
“Two hours. She isn’t dying, is she?”
“We’re running tests. We can’t be sure until they’re through, but she’s in there.”
On other days, she would’ve said a remark to a statement like that. Like, ‘wherever, hot stuff’, but right now she was in a hurry.
An hour later, and Emille still hadn’t come down to see him. No wonder why he was having doubts…Albert still slept like the dead, with little that could be done for him. Every once in a while he’d move to get more comftorable, but he wouldn’t wake.
And it was all her fault. Lisa leaned further into her chair, resting her book on her hands. He seriously hadn’t been kidding when he said he was exhausted.
She’d heard the shallow clink of the patient information file being dropped into the bin into the hall, but no one had said a thing. Because they thought of her as non-family. Well, she’d show them. Erin stooped into the hall, and made sure no one was looking before she grabbed the file.
“All right, what have we got here…well, we knew you weren’t on drugs, so skip that…”
And the next sheet of paper caught her eye. A pregnancy test? She almost burst out laughing. Everyone knew that Manda was a virgin, and wasn’t planning on doing anything ‘till she was married…but that’s when she noticed the answer to the test. Positive.
“How the hell?”
“Yes, that’s a good question. How did you get a hold of that with no one noticing?”
