Meet Again

"Oh, Mushichi...wake up, little buddy."

Kalas was trying to get his inhuman child to uncurl and show what could be considered its face. He figured that since he wasn't sure what it was, he figured he would be safe and call it Mushichi, his 'insect child'.

"Come on, buddy," Kalas tried tapping it on the back, "Aren't you gonna let mommy see your face?"

He was using the term 'mommy' for lack of a better word. Couldn't exactly use 'the guy that pushed you out of his ass'.

Finally, after a little more convincing (and back tapping), Mushichi uncurled itself. It looked up at Kalas (or at least he thought it did) and gave him its signature cry. Kalas simply began petting the top of its head.

"Hey, pal," he said to it. "Wanna go exploring again today?" Mushichi cried again. Kalas took this as a 'yes'. He picked his not-so-little baby up and propped it up on his shoulder, going off on another adventure.

In this short time since Mushichi's birth, Kalas had gotten very attached to this thing. He guessed this was how a mother feels when she has her first child. He just never wanted Mushichi out of his sight. And he was glad to have his little bug/leech/centipede/whatever the hell this thing was companion. (Even though Mushichi had the unfortuate habit of eating cats.)

"Can I count on you to do this, Lyude?"

Xelha was at her wit's end. Kalas had been missing for a long time now, and she wasn't sure what to do, so she turned to the only person she could think of, Kalas' best friend. Surely Lyude could help her with this dilemma of hers.

"Of course, Xelha. I will do all that I can to find Kalas, and I won't return without him." Xelha hugged Lyude and thanked him for this. She knew Lyude was a man of his word.

*****

Lyude really wasn't given much to go on. All he was told was that Kalas had fled to the Celestial Alps, and didn't want anyone to come find him. Of course, Lyude thought this was complete bullshit, and anyway, Kalas was probably lonely by now after a few months of isolation.

God, Lyude prayed he wasn't becoming a hikikomori. That would suck for him and for everyone else that knew them. Of course, something that sucked more right now was trying to get through this mountain passage to the cabin Kalas was presumably inhabitating. Pain in the ass, was what it was.

"Why did Kalas do this? I can't get through this very easily!" Lyude fell and tripped a few times, and had to get back up with the help of a few vines he found. When he finally got to the cabin, he brushed himself off and knocked the door.

There were rustling and clanging noises inside coming from the living room, and when they stopped, the door opened and Kalas' head peeked out. He smiled at seeing his friend.

"Lyude! Hey, pal. Come on in."

Was Kalas...actually inviting him in? Odd, since he had been alone after a long time. Well, maybe he really was lonely. Maybe after about four and a half months out here he could actually keep it in his pants. (i.e. 'Dude, you changed!')

After coming in and seeing the cabin in a relatively clean state (not noticing that there was a pan out of place in the kitchen), Lyude sat down with Kalas at a table and talked about what had been going on since Kalas disappeared.

It seemed Lyude was too busy talking to notice the strange creature on the floor crawling towards him. Kalas took a quick glance at Mushichi, but didn't say anything. He was gonna let Lyude figure it out for himself.

Slowly, quietly, Mushichi made his way up Lyude's chair, and the redhead just blabbed away about current events. It wasn't until Lyude felt the crawling on his back that he realized Kalas hadn't been alone up here. He slowly turned his eyes upward and saw the creature on his head, chewing on his hair. Kalas started laughing at this.

"Awww, he likes you, Lyude," Kalas said between giggles. Lyude was still looking up with a stunned look.

"Pray tell, what is it?" Kalas picked Mushichi up off Lyude's head and started petting it. "He's my buddy, Mushichi."

"Mu...shi...chi?" Lyude was obviously confused by his best friend's friendliness with this...thing. "Where in the world did you find it?"

Oh fuck, Kalas thought. Now I gotta lie to him about Mushichi. "Uh...I found him in the forest around here." Kalas didn't really want to lie to Lyude, but he had to in order to keep the truth about him secret. Lyude probably wouldn't believe the true origins of Kalas' beloved Mushichi.
