Confidence. The beginning and end of true skill - because with enough confidence, the weak will be scared away, the strong won't bother, and the arrogant and angry make mistakes. Well, it might not have been that way with monsters, but I was damn sure the teachers are as sure I can handle the labyrinths already as I am. And now, I had proof.
Finishing running a comb through my blue hair, I set off from the small, half-empty dorm room, grabbing the heavy iron blade from beside me and fixing it to my back easily. Might as well look my best, right?
Surely, someone in my new team would swoon for me on sight, if I made the right entrance. Yes, someone kinda cute and with a hero-worshipping attitude. Maybe my whole team? Well, that might be asking too much... on my stamina, that is! Well, and my patience. Ideally, no jealousy, just a harem--
"Hey, you watching where you're going?"
I looked down a bit, and noticed a violet haired, kinda puny human glaring up at me.
"Yeah. Why?" watching my fantasies play out in my head, yeah, but by comparison they were way more interesting. Not that this human teen was ugly or anything, in fact--
"You ran right into me!" ...Stop interrupting me.
"You mean you ran right into me?" I was grinning.
"No," he denied, and I grinned further.
"Just had your eyes on me too much?" milk it for all it's worth... afterall, it's fun to watch guys squirm.
"Actually," he points to the floor, and a fallen drink that has spilt everywhere. "I was late for a very important meeting and trying to grab a drink on the rush there."
"Oh. Hmm, I might be too, actually," I mused. Fahionably late, that is. Make a grand entrance once everyone else was there, and get all eyes on me.
He looked me over for a moment, and I was about to make a comment, when he cut in before I could even begin. "Faculty Office to see Ms. Yuno, right?"
"What? How'd you..." actually, that had thrown me off.
"I'm Akira," he offered his hand with a calm look on his face, more relaxed now, "first-year Alchemy student. You must be Feight, if the names I was given were right?"
"...?" Names? Huh? ...Wait a second... "You're going there too, aren't you?"
"Yes," he nodded, hand still out in the air.
Well, okay, if he was to be a potential lover, better make a good impression, I suppose. I took his hand - damn, even for a human he felt a bit scraggly - and shook it firmly... then pulled, catching him up against my chest and grinning down at him. "Then, yes. My name's Feight, and don't worry, I'll take care of you," putting on the most winning face I could. The startled look on his features... it was kinda endearing.
What wasn't so endearing was his reaction - a hard stamp on my left foot, the strength of which I admittedly had not expected from such a frail person.
"Then you'll do your duty good as a Warrior?" he huffed a bit, pushing away - he was trying to straighten himself up, but I could tell he was still flustered. I'm a hard guy to say no to.
"All my duties," I let the meaning hang on that, and he shot me a glare.
"Well, let's not be late," he grumbled, heading onwards first. Hmm, 'nice ass', I thought to myself as I followed him for the last couple turns necessary. Okay, faculty office door. Just straighten myself out, and--
A loud crash from behind the door interrupted me, along with a set of shouts and startled sounds and other such chaos, and me and Akira momentarily traded glances before I reached for the door, him slipping behind me. Hey, if I was gonna win him over, might as well do it right. Other hand going to my blade, I pulled the door open.
Well, maybe it wasn't so dangerous afterall. By the time I'd opened the door, two people were already being pulled away from each other.
"--you look at me that way, you hear, girl?" some hotheaded Diablon was shouting. He being pulled back by... was that Toby? It sure looked like it. On the other side of the small office, was a young angel-winged girl with long green hair and some wide-eyed Halfling standing over her protectively, quaking a bit. "Get off me, you damn tabby, I'll..."
"Woah, woah, enough! Everyone calm the fuck down!" I hollered, looking at the slim office. No Ms. Yuno here yet? What a shame. The eyes turned to me - two sets in confusion, one in a bored recognition, and one still angry.
"The hell you want, wyrmwhelp?" the Diablon snapped, red eyes watching me, but calming down a bit.
...Wyrm? "'Scuse me?" my own eyebrow rose a bit. I know Diablons were lower class idiots, but really. Draconians like myself would never be descended from something as ugly as a wyrm.
"Stop it," Akira's hand already reached my wrist, much more calm, stepping forward to scan everyone. Everyone seemed to relax a bit, even me. "We're going to be a party shortly. Let's not be fighting amongst each other."
For the most part, the reactions were to calm down and nod... although, from the Diablon, it was more of a grumpy, irritated 'hmph' at knowing he was now outnumbered. Damn, I like his spirit.
"Yeah," the halfling nodded, seeming a bit less scared now. "...You guys are the last two, right? I'm Dyne," he introduced, hesitantly, trying to break the ice. "First year Thief studies student."
"Right. Introductions," Akira jumped in - he was frail, but he had spirit. If this was actually my future party... best to get along. "Akira, first year Alchemy."
Toby sighed and chimed in next, as Dyne helped the young celestian girl to her feet. "Toby, first year Samurai," he didn't sound too enthused, maybe a little irritated... his tail still hadn't relaxed.
"Gabe, f-first year Cleric... I promise to d-do my best" the angel girl sighed a bit as she righted herself... wait, was it a girl? Now that I paid attention, she was wearing pants instead of the proper skirt, like the normal uniform regulations for girls. No chest, either, but damn, she... he? Sure looked like a girl, wide-eyed, kinda cute, maybe--
A nudge reminded me I was supposed to speak. "Feight, first year Warrior..." damn, no fancy prestigious major or even anything fancy to try to impress the guys into liking me. "Don't worry, I'm tougher than I look," I added a bit of a laugh too at the humour - I was Drake, afterall. If any race looked solid just at a glance, it was us.
"Don't laugh at your own jokes, idiot," the Diablon shot a glare at me. Challenge? Alright, I can deal with that.
"Well, what've you got going for you?"
"Hito," finally, a name. "First year Ninja," really? Damn. That was a title with prestige, I had to admit, extremely few students even had the capabilities to qualify for that major, even after extensive training. "So, piss me off, and I will slit your--"
"Oh, we're all here already!?" at least I wasn't the one getting cut off this time. Adjusting her glasses and trying to look as if she hadn't run here, but we could tell she had... Ms. Yuno looked as unremarkable as ever, brown hair getting straightened back out after a couple pulls. "Good, good. ...Have you all been introduced?"
So this really was my troop? ...Well, they weren't bad looking and could make a fine harem... too bad the chances of co-operation already looked shot.
