You're only a puppet.

Doc pounded his fists against O’Malley’s chest. “Why did you do that?!”

O’Malley wrapped his arms around Doc even as the medic hit him. He liked it here, in the medic’s head. He had never interacted with Tex this way. His pacifist truly was the smart one, wasn’t he?

“I don’t need to explain myself.”

“You… Caboose. We have to help him!”

“That would rather destroy the point.”

Doc sobbed against O’Malley’s chest. “He wasn’t in his armor… there’s no way…”

“Calm down. He’ll probably survive, unfortunately. It’s not as if you cared for him, anyway.” There was almost a threat in his last words, daring Doc to say differently.

“That didn’t mean…” Doc buried his face in the other’s shirt.

In one second, he seemed to realize what he was doing. He pushed away from O’Malley, but the A.I. held him tight.

“Let me go! Let me go!” he screamed.

O’Malley only gripped tighter. Doc felt nails digging into his arms, blood welling where black nails pierced skin. Through a teary haze he saw O’Malley smile.

“Stop.” He protested as O’Malley pulled him in for a kiss. “I said-“

O’Malley held him there, one hand on the back of his head, the other holding his wrist behind his back. Fresh tears of pain entered Doc’s eyes. O’Malley finally let him go, and Doc escaped his grasp. He knew that he only escaped because O’Malley wanted him to. It was a sobering thought.

“I have to help him.” Doc tried to make his voice firm, no ifs, ands, or buts. It came out a whimper.

O’Malley sat down. Doc watched in confusion. O’Malley just looked at him, waiting.

“Well?”

“I’m going.”

O’Malley’s smile widened. “What, O’Malley?”

“Nothing.”

Doc almost fell for it, if only it wasn’t for that smile. He knelt before O’Malley, hands hesitantly gripping the A.I.’s.

“What?”

“They’ll blame you.” There, he said it.

Doc stopped. “No they won’t. I saw him…”

“They know you don’t like him. I always wondered what would take you down from your pedestal.”

“But I didn’t do it!”

O’Malley whispered. “They’re already coming. They heard his scream. And look where you are.”

Doc knew he was right.

“DOC!”

“Oh, god, that’s Church.” Doc whispered.

“Go, then.” O’Malley sneered. “I can’t be blamed for this one. I’m not even supposed to exist anymore.”
