Chapter 5

The next few days were a blur as X walked in a fog. Lucky for him all he had to do was paperwork. He couldn’t stop thinking about his dream. How much it made sense the more he repeated it over and over in his mind. He laughed at how the answer to his insecurities was within his subconscious the whole time. All he had to do was face it.

X knew what he had to do, but he wanted to wait until the time was right.

He sat back in his chair, put his hands behind his head and sighed. I wonder what Zero is doing? I think I will go see if he is in his room now.

X walked down the hallway until he reached Zeros room. He knocked, but no answer came. He knocked a few more times and still no answer. He looked around curiously.

“Hey, do you know where Zero is?” X asked a hunter walking by.

“I think he might be in the lounge.”

“Thank you. Have a good day.” he waved with a smile.

“You too” The hunter waved back.

X ran towards the lounge excited to see his favourite reploid in the world. He stopped at the entrance and looked inside. What he saw made his face turn pale and his eyes widen with shock.

“Oh… I-I’m sorry…” Was all X could muster as he saw Zero and Layer kissing on the couch. After a second of standing dumbfounded X finally got the feeling back in his legs to run away.

Zero had his left eye open and saw X in the doorway, but before he could pull away or say anything he was already gone.

“L-Layer wait a minute.” Zero said pulling away from her.

“What is it Zero?” Layer asked in disappointment.

“I-I can’t do this. Forgive me.” Zero stood abruptly and ran out the Lounge door leaving Layer staring back puzzled. A few minutes later Layer headed to the navigation room to sort some files.

“Palette what are you doing here?”

“Working”

“I see.”

Palette turned to face Layer “How did things go with Zero?”

“Uh, something came up and he had to leave.”

“Did you see X run down the hall just now?”

“No why?”

“He looked pretty upset”

“Oh…”

“I think the rumours around base are true” Palette stated before turning back to her computer screen.

X slammed the door to his bedroom leaning against it trying to catch his breath. Zero ran after him stopping at Xs door. He banged on it forcefully.

“X open the door. Let me explain. You owe me that!”

A wave of silence illuminated the tension between them as X considered his options at the moment. He knew what the right decision was and he had always been one to follow his heart, so he opened the door despite himself.

Both reploids stared at each other quietly waiting for the other to speak first. They knew how fragile their relationship was at this moment and neither of them wanted to be the one to shatter it.

Finally Zero spoke up “X… I didn’t kiss Layer. She kissed me… and before I could react you walked in and ran off. I told her I couldn’t be with her and that’s when I ran after you.”

X looked down at the floor “Zero… I have a lot to apologize for… I didn’t mean to act disinterested in you or sleep with other women to escape my own feelings of love and insecurity… I’m sorry it took so long for me to realize what was truly important.”

“It’s ok X” Zero walked up to X and held his chin up with his fingers making X look into his sapphire blue eyes. Zero couldn’t help but be captivated by Xs eyes of emerald green. Time stood still as the two mens eyes seemed to eclipse into each other as they leaned in slowly moving closer until their lips touched and parted into a fiery embrace.

They wrapped their arms around each other holding each other as tightly as possible until Zero lied X down onto the bed beneath him. Their lips slowly parted as their noses touched. X could feel Zeros warm breath against his skin.

X closed his eyes relishing: every sound, every taste, every smell, and every touch his lover was making. Instinctively X ran his hands softly around Zeros chest as Zero nibbled and kissed his partners neck. X moaned with pleasure as Zero kneeled onto the floor leaning over kissing Xs stomach and rubbing his chest underneath his shirt. Zero pulled Xs shirt off over his head as X sat up and did the same to Zero.
