Chapter Five

Chapter five:

Cervantes was curious about the name, Kore. What it meant? He sat there at his desk in his quarters. Staring off for a second. Then he stood and walked quickly over to his collection of books.( I do not know if Dictionaries were around back then. If not. I really do not care.)

He slid out a large dictionary. And opened it up. He paused. What about the spelling? Kore or Core?” He slammed the book shut. And stormed out. He walked into the brig.” How do you spell yer name?” He asked her abruptly. Her head tilted up and she had a strange look on her face. A ‘ WTF’ look.

But she did answer him anyhow.” K-O-R-E.”

“K-O-R-E.” he repeated to himself turning and leaving her to stare at him again.

Cervantes opened the dictionary again and looked in the K section. And….success! He found it.

Kore: Maiden.

Cervantes found another piece of information that might be of use to him. He read it in his mind,’ Kore was the name of the Goddess Persephone before she became the wife of Hades. In Greek Mythology.’

Cervantes knew nothing about Greek Mythology. But he did know someone who did. His barely disowned daughter, Isabelle Valentine. Or as she is known as , Ivy.

“ Set a course for England.” Cervantes ordered.

“ Captain? Are you feeling alright?” Stomas had to ask.

Cervantes looked at him And he knew that he could trust Stomas with anything he had to say or what he might have concern wise. He drew Stomas aside. The wind gently blew the feathers in his hat slightly.

“ Ivy knows almost everything there needs to know about Greek Mythology.” Cervantes started.

“ Yes…but why would you need to see her about….” Stomas had begun to speak.

Cervantes cut him short.” An idea occurred to me. That girl may not be a normal girl at all. She may not be human. On her arm she had a Narcissus flower on her arm. It’s a birthmark. A flower like that is grown in the Greek isles.”

“A Narcissus flower is involved in the myth of Hades and Persephone.” Stomas mentioned. Not really knowing where this conversation was going.

Cervantes stared at his first mate perplexed for a moment. Then he spoke,” Just set a course for England. I need to speak to my daughter.” With that he turned and walked down the lower levels of the deck and stared out at sea.

The voice of the woman from his dreams echoing through his mind’ It is your destiny…..it is you who bares the mark of the Chosen.’

Kore glanced up. Cervantes walked in into the brig. By that time it was already evening. Cervantes unlocked her shackles and roughly kept her on the ground. His hands squeezing her shoulders.” Now, before I let you stand. Do I have your word that you will not try to flee the ship? And you are not to attack me again.”

Kore nodded. “ Get me some fresh clothing and you’ve got yourself a deal.” She said with a smile.

Cervantes looked over his shoulder at Stomas, then nodded slightly. Then he looked back down at Kore. Letting go of her shoulders. He offered her his brown leather gloved hand. To help her to stand up. She smiled and accepted. And they were close to each other. They had started to gaze into each other’s eyes. For quite sometime.

Well several seconds. Before Cervantes cleared his throat. “ I’ll be letting you sleep in your own cabin. Though this is no pleasure craft. I shall see you as my guest….until we reach land at least.” He explained.

Kore smiled at him again,” Thank you.” She said. There was a pause then he stomach growled.

“ Oh, yes. I nearly forgot. You’ll be dining with me tonight in my quarters. “ He said.

Kore nodded.” Alright. There’s no harm in that.” She said and for the first time looked him up and down. Cervantes, for an older man had a very attractive body. He had light lavender skin. Pure white orbs. She stared at his white beard. Then gazed at his clothing.

He wore his long black vest coat. His rank emblems on his shoulders. His chest was covered by a silver breastplate and his stomach with a nice looking six pack was exposed. His trousers were black and had a long gold strip going down each pant leg. Finally he wore his brown boots. To Kore he was sexy. ( well…he is to me too. Teh)

“ The clothing.” Stomas voice popped her back into reality. There was a small pile of clothing folded in his hands. There was a long crimson skirt with long slits going to the waist line. A crimson leather tunic with no sleeves. On top of the folded cloths was a brush, two hair ties. Two black bracelets, and two black armlets. Finally black tapered boots.

“ One more thing, Stomas. “ Cervantes started. Not looking at his first mate. Rather staring down at Kore.” Show this young lady to an empty cabin.” He said. Smiling lightly at Kore. Who accepted the clothing and smiled back at Cervantes.
