Alex’s eyes searched franticly through the bar, after not finding her she then darted up the Inn’s stairs. Alex had to find her she needed someone to talk to at that moment. She was the only one who she really could talk to about this. Alex found her object of search in a room cleaning her arrows while dipping some in poison.

“Ciera!’

The night elf looked up from her work to look upon that had called her name. She found Alex standing in the doorway of her room panting and looking distressed.

“Alex? What’s wrong?” She set down her arrows to give the other her complete attention.

“C…Ciera..I…Kane…past” Alex was now letting fresh tears fall from the sorrow of remembering and the embarrassment on letting Kane see her weakness.

Ciera stood up quickly and went to her frail friend.

“Shhh its ok Alex.” Ciera hugged her companion, letting her cry on her shoulder if need be.

Alex leaned her head forward to rest on the taller girl’s shoulder, closing her eyes as the final flash of memories played through her mind.

Mommy? Brother?” Alex placed her small hand on the broad side of the door lightly pushing it in. The door swung inward letting the aura of death intensify. ”Mommy? Brother..?” She stepped timidly into the house.

Rain had started to pour outside the moment she had stepped in it had seemed. Lightning flashed and the room was illuminated for a second, but for Alex it was in slow motion.

Everything was in pieces…. The small living room that had housed so many loving in memories was destroyed; the furniture had been thrown about the room in what appeared to be a struggle. Glass littered the floor from the windows; their shredded curtains billowed around in the storms wind, making them look like ghosts.

Alex’s eyes grew wide as another flash drew her attention to something shiny by her right foot. It was a wrapped present for her birthday; the yellow paper was torn and spotted with a dark fluid. Her gaze drew back up to see more presents strewn about the room leading up to a ghastly hand poking out from a white sheet that was splattered with the same dark fluid.

“Mommy?”

Alex walked forward stumbling once over a fallen chair, her bare feet being cut by the glass, but she hardly noticed. She finally reached the lumps covered by the sheet. She bent down and grabbed the tip of the sheet, hesitated then pulled it off quickly. Another flash of light, she opened her mouth in a silent scream.

Her mother laid clutching her brother to her chest with both arms covered in gashes and bruises, her mouth open in what had been screaming for them to spare her son. A dagger was buried in the center of her chest.

Her brothers gray eyes were half open; arms wrapped around her mother’s middle, a small hole on the side of his temple implied he had been shot.

Alex fell to her knees clutching her head in her hands, sobbing and rocking back and forth. Her eyes opened they were now different colors due to the infection in the left from her dad’s blood, which left her sight blurry. Her vision focused on the dagger in her mother’s chest.

Reaching forward with numb fingers she wrapped her hand around the hilt and pulled, it slid out without much trouble. She stood up watching the dark droplets fall on the floor. Turning the blade so it faced her she pressed the tip lightly to her lower belly, a sense of peace came over her, she would soon be with her family again and would be celebrating her birthday.

The tip had barely started to pierce her flesh when a firm hand grabbed the end of the handle and pulled it from her grasp. Startled Alex looked up; there stood a beautiful woman. Her eyes glowed softly a silvery light, her light blue hair was pulled back into a short pony tail a few strands of hair falling loose. She was dirty and tired looking, her armor was splattered with mud and leaves and in a few places the hard leather was torn. Her face was a mask set in sorrow.

“We are the same.” Was all the elf said as she bent down taking Alex into her arms. “Lets go.”

The elf, Alex would later learn was Ciera, turned with Alex cradled in her arms and walked out into the rain away from the gore, away from the nightmare.

She now sat in her room staring at the very dagger she had tried to kill herself with all thoughs years ago. Alex had gone to her room after talking to her friend and getting a hold on herself. She heard a slight knock on her door.

“Alex?” Kane slowly opened the door.

“Yes?” Alex looked up at him indifferently.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry…you know from before.”

“Its not you its my fault for reacting that way. Its just that…. bad memories.” Alex laid the dagger across her lap.

“I’m sorry again I didn’t mean to stir them up” Then after a moment he continued “I’m sorry for your loss.”

“As long as there are horde to cut down I have a purpose for living, I’ll kill as many as I can before they kill me.” Alex said angrily.

“And you think that’s going to bring your family back?” Kane asked tensely.

Startled Alex looked up into Kane’s face.

“Because you know no matter if you killed the lot of them, after they were all gone… you wouldn’t feel anything but emptiness.” Kane walked over to her and sat beside her on the bed.

“How would you know how I feel?! You still have your family! I have nothing!” Alex exclaimed.

Kane looked down for a long moment as if lost in thought. “I know because my fiancé was slaughtered by horde.”

Alex’s eyes widened as she stared at the night elf next to her.

“But I found that no matter how many I killed it never helped.” Kane lifted his eyes back to hers.” Every one has their problems, its just a matter in how you deal with them.”

Alex leaned her head on his shoulder “I’m so sorry..”

Kane smiled thoughtfully ”It was a long time ago.” He wrapped an arm around her pulling her closer. “Plus its not true on what you said before you know..”

Alex pulled away slightly and gazed at him.

“You have me.” With that he pulled her in to a soft kiss.
