”I asked Mr. Keeta about the duet Sheik!” Zelda exclaimed loudly as she walked into the classroom. Link was already there with his books on his desk and Sheik was next to him. Zelda walked over and sat behind them. She noticed they were both glowing and she just remembered…THEY HAD A DATE!
”Oh wait! Oh my Goddess! I forgot! You guys had your first date!” She shrieked loudly and broke out giggling. Half the class turned around to see what the commotion was about. Link propped up his book and Sheik punched Zelda in the arm.
”Will you shut up! Gees women.” He said harshly. She rubbed her arm but still smiled.
”How did it go, what happened?” She whispered loudly.
”None of your business Blondie.” Sheik replied. Zelda pouted and began poking Sheik in the back trying to get him to turn around. Finally he did.
”What?!” He barked.
”Sheik…” The teacher stopped writing on the chalkboard and turned to Sheik.
”Sorry ma’am.” He nodded apologetically and she continued writing.
”Come on tell me!”
”After class, not here.” He finally gave in, but not before getting a nod from Link.
”Fine I’ll wait..but I won’t forget!” She smiled and went through her backpack pulling out a pencil and some paper to pretend to take notes.
Sheik did the same facing forward starring at the teacher but not really listing. After about 10 minutes Sheik finally realized that Zelda yelled something about Mr.Keeta. He leaned back slightly trying to make it look as if he were stretching.
”What about Keeta?”
”He said that he is willing to let us perform our duet at the next concert!” She whispered excitedly. Sheik almost lost balance and fell backwards completely but he managed to grab the desk in time.
”R-Really?!”
”Yea!” Zelda giggled. Link looked over and smiled in a congratulatory manner, but still continued taking notes.
”Sheik, Zelda, is there something you wish to say to the class.?” The old lady asked clasping the book close in her hand. She sounded irritated as usual, but instead of saying “No ma’am.”
Sheik stood up and replied. “Yes Ma’am, there is.”
The class stopped taking their notes and turned around. Some were surprised. No one has ever actually replied with a yes.
”Well?” She said tapping her foot impatiently.
”Mr.Keeta has agreed in letting me and Zelda perform a harp duet with the accompany of an orchestra at the up coming concert!”
The class began to applaud and cheer. Sheik took Zelda’s hand and they both bowed in appreciation. The teacher actually smiled and clapped as well, but then finally told the class to calm down.
”Ha, that is great. I know how much you have been wanting to do this. I am glade you two finally get your chance to shine.” She smiled and turned back to the black board and continued on with her lesson.
Sheik, a little shaky after actually making the statement and drawing so much attention to himself, sat back down in his seat. Link, though trying to continue focusing reached under his desk and grabbed Sheiks hand squeezing it and then let go. He again smiled and at him, their eyes meeting and it quickly broke away.
Zelda giggled lightly behind them. She was not oblivious. She knew, and it made her happy to see them this way. The way it should be.
It was 11:15 and Dark usually strolls in by this time, but still no Dark. Class was a little more than halfway done and Link began to worry. /Today is the audition…I hope he hasn’t forgotten./ He thought. Everyone had the option of going before or after lunch. Link was planning on going before lunch for the sake of getting it over with, but he thought maybe Dark had planned on going after. /Right, he wouldn’t miss lunch if someone paid him./ He chuckled lightly to himself and continued writing.
Sheik continued to stare at the clock on the wall. Time just seemed to tick slower and slower. He was starving. He hadn’t eaten anything since Saturday night, or Sunday morning rather. After that night he had with Link, he couldn’t eat or really even sleep. He just sort of sat in his room and starred at the wall thinking about it. Not so much what happened in the end, but before that. Even though it was fun, he still couldn’t really shake how Link looked, how desperate he all of a sudden became. He was worried about him.
Sheik glanced over at Link occasionally watching him take down notes a mile per second. /Such a wonderful guy… So perfect, yet not./ Sheik sighed. He knew that Link wasn’t perfect, no one was. But he wanted to help him. He wanted Link to trust him. But he knew that Link would never willingly tell him what’s really going on in that complex mind of his. /Maybe if I harass Zelda long enough she will give in and tell me./ He frowned. /No that’s not right. I would be no better than her if I tried that. Besides, for her not to blurt it out to me in the first place must mean it is REALLY serious./ Sheik held his stomach tightly as it began to rumble. /Man I’m hungry. Maybe I should just drop it. If he really wanted to talk, he would…wouldn’t he?/ Finally what felt like a lifetime the bell for lunch rang.
The kids pilled out of the room as Link, Sheik, and Zelda just began putting their things away.
”Alright, I am going to head the to music room. Wish me luck.” He smiled. Since the classroom was empty but them, Sheik walked over and hugged Link rightly whispering into his ear, “You don’t need it.” They held each other for a few seconds until they heard a giggle. Sheik pulled away and looked at Zelda.
”Awwwwww! HOW CUUUUUUTE!” She squealed. Dogs could probably hear her from miles.
”Come on Zelda, I will tell you all about it at lunch.” Sheik rolled his eyes and waved as Link left the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
”So lets start from the top!” Zelda said taking a bite out of her soggy greasy pizza.
”What is there to say really…it was great.” Sheik sucked through his straw.
”Did you guys DO anything?”
Sheik glanced at Zelda and shrugged his shoulders in response.
”Sheik!”
”Hmm?” He hummed casually mixing his noodles. There was a slight blush on his face. Zelda eye’s widened as her imagination began to run away with her.
”Oh goddess! Did you? Did you guys do it?!” She yelled jumping out of her seat. Half of the cafeteria stopped and turned. She smiled at them and slowly sat back down.
”No, not really anyway. It was our first date, gees come on!”
”Well then what? I know you did something.” She leaned in closer.
”We just sort of, I dunno. Kissed and stuff.” Sheik trailed off slightly diving into his bowl of noodles.
”Shirts off?”
”Zelda!” Sheik yelled as noodles flew from his mouth.
”Come on! I want to know!” She only giggled and shoved him lightly insisting on knowing everything
Sheik cleaned off his mouth an sighed. /Might as well give her what she wants./ ”Yes.”
”…!” She began to giggle again. She kept trying to take another bite of her pizza, but she couldn’t stop giggling.
”Zelda please calm down before you hurt yourself.” He said casually re-mixing his noodles.
”Ok ok. Sorry. I am just so…Excited!”
”About?”
”Well everything is going so well… You and Link are finally together, we get to do our duet, and Link will be first chair flute! Everything is so great!”
”Yea. I guess your right…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
”Flute, flute, flute! Where the hell is it?!” Link dug through his music locker furiously. His endless pile of sheet music began to pour onto the ground as he dug deeper and deeper, but he couldn’t find it! It wasn’t there!
/Ok think Link…where was the last place you had it?/ He searched through his mind, but came up with nothing. He didn’t take it home. He never took it home. He had two flutes; one for school and one for home. So where was it?
”Link, are you ready?” A man called from one of the audition rooms. It was Mr.Keeta.
”I…I can’t find my flute sir. I-I think it was stolen.”
”hmm. Well that is unfortunate.” He said it near carelessly. Usually Mr.Keeta was the first person to put on a worldwide search when anything in the music room went missing so suddenly. One person lost their cork grease and he nearly flipped the school upside to find it and it turned out it was in the student’s pocket.
”Well this will make your audition difficult then won’t it?”
”I…guess. Maybe I could use one of the school flutes?” Link asked.
”Sure, help yourself. Good luck finding one with all it’s keys.” There was almost a crude smile on his face when he said that, but Link shrug it off and rushed to the storage room.
He dug through the woodwind section of the storage room. Flipping over bassoons and oboes, clarinets and piccolos, but where were all the flutes?
”UGH! This is ridiculous! What school owns 4 bassoons but no damn flute!” Link kicked one of the cases aside harshly and underneath was a small case. A flute perhaps? He knelt down and picked it up.
He opened it and looked inside.
”well…it’s a flute alright..” He took it out and put it together. More than half of it’s corks were missing and it was dented and scratched horribly.
”Link are you coming or not?” He heard Mr.Keeta yell irritably.
”Yea, here I come.” He ran to the audition room with the old flute in his hand.
”Ah yes…You found one I see.” He lifted his eyebrow and somewhat sneered. “Well then, lets hear it Redblade.”
Link took a deep breath and put the flute to his mouth. He inhaled and blew. Oh boy did he blow. He closed his eyes trying to not to cry, but he knew it was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Half the notes didn’t even come out because there was nothing to ceil the holes with. It just sounded…bad. Something Link was not use to.
He finished his piece and lowered his flute. Mr.Keeta covered his mouth trying not to bust out laughing. Keeta’s eyes were near watering with laughter.
”Well..Heh. Link. That certainly wasn’t your greatest audition.” He cleared his throat. “I am not really sure what song you were attempting to play.” He snickered a bit more pushing up his glasses.
”’La Tempesta di Mare’ in G minor by Vivaldi.” Link mumbled.
”Hmph. Well Vivaldi is turning in his grave right now Redblade. That was horrible.” He shuffled some papers together and stood up. “Well lucky for you there are only two flute players in this school. So you are in, but you most certainly will NOT be playing first.”
Link almost chocked on his own spit. He began coughing and holding heart almost as if he had been shot.
”I..what?!” Was all he managed to say.
”Your brother came in here not too long before you. I must say, considering the fact that he never shows up to rehearsals he still played rather well. Hmph. Perhaps you should consider switching to an easier instrument like clarinet. Never get enough of those.” Keeta said sarcastically and smiled as he walked out of the room.
Keeta turned off the lights on his way as well, leaving Link in the dark. He dropped the flute and sat on the ground harshly. Part of him wanted to cry, but another part felt that he should be happy.
/He is my brother…I should be happy for him right? I mean…I don’t have to be better than him in everything. Dark deserves positive attention too…Good job big brother./ He thought. But he still couldn’t’ help but to feel a little dazed by it all. He hadn’t sounded that bad since his first jury when he performed with a broken pinky, and even then the judges were more than generous. But Mr.Keeta just seemed so cold. He was never that rude to Link in the past. He even told him to his face, “Link there would be no orchestra without you!” But perhaps Mr.Keeta just had a change in heart. Or maybe Link was losing his touch.
He didn’t know what to think about it all, but he knew he had to praise his brother for his great accomplishment. /The test and now the orchestra. Good job Dark/. He tried to smile, but he felt more like vomiting.

Lunch was over and everyone began to head back to class. Sheik and Zelda sat in the same order, but there was no Link and surprisingly a Dark.
”Hey Dark.” Zelda said taking a seat next to him.
”sup.” He nodded. Sheik just glared at him and sat in front of him not looking back.
”Yo faggy boy, where is my brother?” He asked. Sheik snorted.
”He had his audition today before Lunch. He is probably just staying after getting his FIRST chair music from Mr.Keeta and will be here momentarily.” There was a slight cockiness to his voice.
”Well good for the little runt.”
”You could have at least shown up for your audition time Dark, that is just rude.” Zelda said.
”What the hell are you talking about? I did. I went right at the start of lunch, I just didn’t go to class.”
”Oh, well pardon moi.” She said waving her hand.
”How did it go?” Sheik asked pretending to be interested.
”Eh, pretty good I think. Mr.Keeta was being pretty nice to me. Heh, guess all those years of holding the damn piccolo in class paid off.”
”Flute.”
”Whats that now?”
”The flute Dark, you play the flute.” Sheik growled. He tried to keep his temper down. It bothered him greatly that Dark took no pride in his instrument.
”Oh yea, whatever. The Pea Shooter.” Just as Dark finished his statement the door opened. Link walked in slowly clutching his book bag in one hand. He looked up and saw that everyone was there, so he put on a forced smile and approached them.
”Hey little bro, how’d it go?” Dark asked disrupting the class.
”Well…I have to congratulate you on your audition Dark… I am happy for you.” He said through his teeth. Link tried to keep his smile but it was getting harder to maintain such false happiness for something that was truly crushing him on the inside. /Come on Link, this isn’t about you. Be happy for him, he is your brother. He would be happy for you./
”Happy for me…For What?”
Before Link could explain the loud speakers came on.
”Hello Hyrule High! This is your assistant Principle speaking. I would like to congratulate Dark Redblade on his magnificent audition today at lunch! First Chair Flute Dark! ”
The class all turned to Dark and applauded. He couldn’t help but to blush ever so slightly. Link sort of ducked back in his seat.
He continued, ”Mr.Keeta just told me this wonderful news and we are proud of your sudden turn around Dark. The Principal wishes to speak with you in his office immediately, and for once, you aren’t in trouble!” He laughed and the speaker shut off with a screech.
”Wow Dark, awesome!” One kid said in the front.
”Well Dark, you better get going. Congratulations once again.” The teacher said.
Dark stood up and was about to leave.
”Oh you may want to take your stuff, I don’t think you will be coming back for the rest of the class period.”
Dark shook his head and grabbed his bag. He waved at Link who still wore a forced grin on his face. Dark knew he was pissed, and he loved it.
