Grif knew his surroundings this morning. They were so familiar, after all. Nothing like Church’s room. No, he woke up where he should be, against Tucker’s chest.

Or the wall.

He sat up, looking for Tucker. He didn’t leave… did he?

“Breakfast.” Tucker walked through the door with a smile plastered on his face. He knelt beside the bed, offering the syrupy waffles the orange man.

Grif smiled softly at him. “Did you eat?”

Tucker said slyly. “I didn’t think you’d need all of these.”

“Of course not.”

Grif carefully cut off a piece, tenderly placing it in Tucker’s open mouth. The blue chewed, smile slightly falling. Grif put it to it being difficult to grin and eat decently.

Which doesn’t mean that he smiled any less at Tucker when he himself began to eat. Tucker took the fork from him, alternating bites between the two of them. Grif was almost sad when the plate was gone and Tucker left to return it to the kitchen.

Grif lay back against the wall, waiting patiently for Tucker to walk back into the room, to sit beside him.

“Tucker?” He wanted to ask where he went wrong, what he did to make his lover turn him away.

But when he looked at Tucker, and the blue was smiling at him with a questioning look, Grif couldn’t say the words. He instead leaned in to softly kiss him. Tucker grabbed on to him, holding the orange soldier as he whispered in his ear.

“I’m so sorry.”

Grif looked over Tucker’s shoulder to see Church peering in, mouth open, ready to ask a question, when Tucker drew him into another kiss, tongue begging entrance to the temple he wished to worship. Grif’s eyes closed, moan releasing as he forgot about Church and what he wanted to ask Tucker. Church looked down and away, scuffling back to the kitchen.

Tucker gently pushed Grif back, whispering to him. “It was so lonely, you know.”

Grif looked at him. He wouldn’t apologize for what he didn’t know what he was sorry for. He did, however, finally ask his question.

Tucker sat in dumb silence. Grif’s heart fell farther and farther the longer Tucker sat. He wouldn’t look at him, standing to leave if that’s all Tucker would give him. He had had enough silence.

“Wait.” Tucker croaked out.

Grif looked down at him. “Is there something you can say to help me fix this? If not, then-“

“There is.” Tucker swallowed.

Grif waited. Tucker pulled him back onto the bed, not complaining about the weight put on his lap.

“I was wrong. I thought that you were tired of the same thing all the time, the same thing every night.” Tucker babbled. “It…it’s been just like a fuck these past couple nights, you know? I-I thought that if… I thought that time makes a heart fonder, right?”

Grif asked softly. “You’re tired of me?”

“What? No!”

Tucker gently ran a hand down Grif’s side. “I don’t know how to explain it… I…”

Grif’s gaze softened. A little.

“I need you, Grif. I don’t want you to be unhappy with me.” Tucker whispered.

“Why did you…” Grif swallowed. “Kick me out?”

Tucker looked down in shame. When he wouldn’t reply, Grif left him. He left the room, left blue base. His parting words replayed again and again in Tucker’s head.

“When you know, come get me.”
