Sister Varity's Storytime-Good Night Guardsman

Sister Varity finished her tale to the children. It filled their hearts with wonder and greater faith in His will. She patted them gently on the head and led the group towards their assigned proctor. Assured that they were safely on their way to bed, she turned back and made her way to her temporary quarters.

She now noticed the guardsman who had been nervously following her, he looked eerily familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.

"What is it?" Her stern voice making the hapless guardsman shuffle his feet restlessly. He had a light smile on him and was rubbing the back of his head.

"I listened to your story and I found it to be very nice. I liked how you told it."

"And? Speak up, I don't have all day."

"Well, I was wondering if you would read me a bed time story too?" He looked up hopefully at her; the effect ruined by a vivid scar crossing his face.

"No."

"Please?" His hopeful face was not diminished by her ardent refusal.

"No."

"Please?" The guardsman stayed ever hopeful.

Varity sighed, it was evident that the guardsman would not listen to reason and would go on like this endlessly.

"Fine."

"I was really looking forward to hearing… wait… Really?" The look of hope on his face was almost inspiring.

"Yes."

Varity took in a deep breath and started.

"There was once an annoying Guardsman who wouldn't shut up, so I punched him in the face until he did. The end."

"What kind of story is that? It doesn't make any sens-"

Before Nil could finish his sentence a blow knocked him off his feet and sent him flying to the ground.

A smile crossed Sister Varity's face; it was a good bedtime story.
