Part 4
Rouge and Tom have been married for twenty one years and nine months
as of this chapter.
---------------------------------------------------------
Teal thought she'd heard a noise. The house was dark, but the small light
down the hallway caught her attention. Pushing the door open, she saw
June. "June?"
The bat, startled, dropped what she'd held. "I wasn't stealing
anything!"
"I didn't say you were," Teal defended. She looked down at what June
had dropped. "Oh, those are... dad had those before he met mom, I
think."
Posters of well-muscled women scattered the floor. "Sis lets him keep
these?" June was a bit surprised.
"Actually," Teal explained, "he wants to throw them out but mom keeps
them, some game they have. She keps waving them in his face."
"I see." June picked them up, her cast getting in the way. "Stupid thing
comes off tomorrow, can't wait." Assuming her sister would want to find
the posters in the same spot, June tucked them away.
---------------------------------------------------------
Afternoon. June's cast was off and it was her first day out in six weeks.
Rouge had given her money and free reign to take a day out on her
own. Sitting alone, enjoying her milkshake, she once again got a
strange feeling. An odd feeling she was being followed. Turning, she saw
them, two cops outside, cops she was certain she had seen elsewhere that
day.
Pulling out the cell phone Rouge had given her, she dialed the mansion.
"Hello?"
"ROUGE! Sis... I think some guys are following me..."
"Wait... following you? You sure?" Rouge asked, concerned.
June looked back. She was certain they were watching her. "They look
like cops and I think they've been following me everywhere. I'm
scared..."
"Just stay where you are and don't panic. I'm sending Teal to get you.
She's a GUN agent so they can't do anything. This is because you
shoplifted from our store... where are you?"
June answered, "a fast food place. Has a happy clown on the front of it.
It's not far from your fruit store."
"Okay. Stay there and don't move." Rouge hung up.
---------------------------------------------------------
She opened Teal's door.
"Mom?"
"Teal, get your GUN ID. June's being
harassed by the police for no reason. You need to go get her." Rouge
was panicking.
"Mom, I'm just a low-level agent, I don't-"
"Just do it!" she shouted. "She's at Happy Burger near our store in the
city, go, now! Get her home! I'm not having the police harass my sister!"
Without argument, Teal picked up her purse and grabbed her government
badge, heading for her window. Flying over the house would be faster
than running to the front door.
Content that her daughter was on the way, Rouge dialed the phone.
---------------------------------------------------------
The police officers watched Teal enter the restaurant, meeting with June.
"We don't have anything on her," the first said, fed up with this
assignment.
"You heard the captain," the second said, "bring her in on something.
Looks like... hmm... think maybe that's some underage lesbian
prostitution deal going on? I think so. Come on."
Exiting their car, they made their way to the door, only to be
stopped by three men. "This is GUN business. Stand down."
"You're in our way, buddy!" officer one shouted. Teal led June outside,
the two flying off.
"They're clear," one of the agents said into his radio.
The second cop screamed out, "you just pushed the wrong-"
He was silenced, his arm twisted and his body slammed into the wall.
"Don't piss me off, donut-monkey. This is government business and
you couldn't stop a crime in your sleep." Cold as ice and hard as steel,
the three GUN agents walked away, their job done.
---------------------------------------------------------
Central City Police Department fell silent as the Commander of GUN
entered the main detective room, followed by several top-ranking
agents. Stopping at the Captain's door, he opened it. "Captain."
"What does GUN want in Central City?" The Captain blurted out,
"what does the police department want with an innocent teenage girl?"
"Innocent..." the Captain laughed. "Arrested ten times, no one
pressed charges because they all felt SORRY for her! Bust her with
an actual offense, and she might get the message! I don't care if she
is family to those rich twits on that fruit farm!"
"Those people happen to be friends of mine. One of them was a high-
ranking agent at one point, so I would thank you to keep your
ugly, sagging face shut!" He was fed up with the Captain.
"Funny, I don't recall being the ugly one. Linda once dated me, not
you. I doubt she left me because she thought you were better looking!"
"No, she didn't leave you because of that," the Commander stated,
"she left you because you were beating her."
Enraged, the police Captain grabbed the Commander's shirt. "What right
do you have to-"
The entire department was in awe as the Captain's door smashed open,
their Captain hitting the floor. Stepping over him with proud
victory, the GUN Commander shouted out, "if ANYONE in this city
harasses any member of the Adriani family again, I will PERSONALLY see
to it that that individual is arrested by GUN and sent to a prison
island! Rouge Adriani is still considered to be an agent of GUN and
any attempt to harass her or any member of her family WILL be regarded
as an act of terrorism by this nation! Do I make myself clear?"
He began to slowly walk away. "Right, as for your abusive Captain,
he will be replaced soon. I am suggesting to the President himself
that you be fired immediately." Followed by his Agents, the Commander
returned to his limo. Driving off, he said, "I may have sounded harsh...
but compared to what Rouge would do to them, I'm being fairly
generous..."
---------------------------------------------------------
Rouge was happy. She hugged her sister. "I'm glad you're safe..."
"Yeah, I'm okay. Just a bit weirded out, that's all."
"I'm afraid some of this is my fault," Tom said. "The police Captain
is from one of the wealthy families my parents associated with back
in the days of the old wine company. One of their sons. I pissed off
a lot of those people when I threw away a wine legacy of three
generations to make jelly and yogurt."
"It's not your fault, Tom." Rouge sighed. "It's the fault of people
who can't just leave other people alone..." She was relieved to have
her sister home.
---------------------------------------------------------
Night had come. Teal was tired. She had gone to the kitchen to sneak a
sandwich, finding a light on in the hallway, peeking under a door.
Gently opening it, she found June, once again looking at the old
muscle girl posters. "June?" Startled, the girl jumped.
"Teal! I- I-" She seemed to be sweating, but not from the heat. It was
a cold, nervous sweat.
"You were..." Teal processed the sight. "You were looking at dad's old
posters again."
"So? Big deal... sis has muscles, I just want some inspiration to be
like her, that's all." Wiping her eye, June bent down to pick the
posters up.
"What's wrong?" Teal asked.
"I... screw it, I can't keep lying about this but I-" She crumpled
to the floor, her wings wrapped around. She was crying.
"June, come on, what's wrong? Something happen today?"
"No, it's not about that," she replied. "I- Teal... you'll think I'm
a freak or something..." Holding a poster, she held it up. "These
pictures... they turn me on, okay? I'm a lesbian! I like tits and
lipstick!"
She was a bit shocked. "I- I see..."
"Don't worry, Teal, I'm not into YOU. You're family, that'd be gross.
It's one thing to be homeless, another to be a thief AND a teenager...
add dyke on top of that and I was kinda messed up. Please don't tell
sis, she'll probably get mad."
"Mom won't get mad," Teal assured, "she's not as bad as she acts
sometimes. Look, I can't make you tell her, but don't run off. That'd
make things worse. She's been freaking out about this since she met you.
You don't want to take this away from her, do you?" Reaching out her
hand, she pulled June up from the floor. "Come on, bed time. Please
don't run off, okay?"
"You sure you even want me sleeping in the same room with you?" June
was a bit nervous.
"Don't worry, I believe you. I don't think you're going to do anything
nasty."
---------------------------------------------------------
Waking up, June rolled over, tossing the blankets off. Teal was in the
bathroom, brushing her teeth. June had to go. "Teal... please can
I have the bathroom?" Spitting out her toothpaste, Teal gave her aunt
some privacy. The door opened, revealing June, relieved. "Damn....
well, all yours." Returning to the sink, she continued her morning
ritual.
"Teal?" June poked her head in the door. "I think... I need to talk to
sis. I know she wants me here, but she has to know and if she can't
accept me for it, then I can't stay here."
"But leaving would break her heart!" Setting her toothbrush down, she
grabbed a cup to rinse with.
June replied, "I can't cover it up. If she can't like me for who I am
then I'm going. It's just-" She hesitated. "Mom couldn't deal with it.
I can't take it if my own sister can't."
Breathing in a heavy breath, Teal made a quick decision. Grabbing
June's hand, she ran into the living room where her parents sat. "MOM!
June has something to tell you."
"Oh? June?" Rouge was curious.
Turning red, the bat flinched. "Sis, I.... I don't know if you're
gonna be mad, but I didn't run away from home. Mom kicked me out."
"I can't say that surprises me," Rouge responded. "She'd probably
have kicked me out, too, given time..."
"You don't understand," June shouted. "Mom kicked me out because..."
Looking at Teal for encouragement, she explained, "mom caught me looking
at porn."
Rouge laughed. "Really? I'd think mom would have encouraged that. She
was a total slut..."
"Girly porn," June said sharply. "Mom caught me looking at girly
pictures. And... I wasn't just stumbling through them, I was looking.
Sis... I'm queer. Mom kicked me out because I wouldn't grow up to have
sex with guys." Sniffling, June let the tears leak down her face.
"And you probably think I'm a weirdo, too, what with you and your
husband banging into the night, so I'm going to leave-"
Reaching out, Rouge gave her sister a hug, tight and forceful. "NO!
Please... you can't go! I don't care, I'm not leaving you out on the
streets with no food or shelter!"
Pulling free, she asked, "you really aren't freaked out?"
"A bit surprised, but no, I don't think it's a bad thing."
Teal shouted out, "we haven't been-"
"I know that, Teal! If you were a lesbian you wouldn't be dating the
echidna boy."
"His name is Slate, MOTHER!" Teal shouted. "Oh... guess the old
rivalries still hit my tongue before I talk..." Rouge responded,
a bit embarrassed. "But you're staying, June. Don't think you need to
keep secrets from me, okay? You're my only sister and I'll protect you
no matter what! I need my family."
"Mom? Teal spoke up. "I think it's time June gets her own room, don't
you?"
"Sounds like a good idea," Tom said. "We have enough empty rooms in this
place, just pick one."
"You're cool with this?"
"I don't mind, not my business who turns you on." Picking up the
newspaper, he opened to the financial section to check his own
businesses. They were holding up well.
"Uh, Mister Adriani... can I...
I found your old girly posters, you mind if I, uhh..." "You want those
old things? I don't care. Wait... I thought I threw those away?"
Rouge grinned. "If you want to look at that stuff, well, it's your room,
you put whatever on the walls you want." Taking her sister's hand,
Rouge assured, "don't worry, you're safe. Anyone messes with you
about this, I'll take care of it."
as of this chapter.
