I own no part of Red vs Blue, or even Halo for that matter. I make absolutely no money from writing this, either.
But what can you do?
The sun was hot. At least, that’s what Doc told himself as he sat on top of the base, arms wrapped around himself. Why had he offered to take watch without even putting on his armor? He looked up to the sky, certain that if it could, it would snow. He debated going inside, grabbing a blanket, his armor, anything.
/Cold?/
Doc nodded. He felt arms wrap around him, shielding him from cold air. A warm chest pressed against his back, and he smiled. One hand went up to hold the arm across his chest, only to pass right through. He moved it back to his knees, and closed his eyes.
/Better?/
It was strange, Doc thought, that such a wrathful perso- A.I. could be so considerate. He heard O’Malley’s answering snort and chuckled. Maybe that was the wrong word to use.
/I’d rather not find another host, you fool./
Right. Of course. Doc frowned, disappointed. O’Malley didn’t- would never- care for him, not when he could have anyone he wanted. Why would he love a worthless medic, anyway?
/Stop that./
Doc glumly looked out into the canyon. He saw cobalt armor walking from the caves.
“Church?” he mumbled.
/Look./
Someone else joined Church. He didn’t have any armor, but Doc would guess that it was Donut. He didn’t know who else would run up for a hug from the blue C.O. A hug that didn’t come. Doc watched in slight interest as they stood still, in conversation. Church turned away, heading back towards the base. Donut, assuming it was him, fell to the ground, wrapping his arms around his knees. Doc would guess that he was crying.
“Doc?”
“What do you want, Caboose.” Doc said softly.
He felt O’Malley’s “grip” around him tighten. “I brought this for you.”
Caboose held out a blanket shyly. Doc smiled and reached for it. It was an odd sensation, passing through where he felt a person. O’Malley let go as Doc wrapped the blanket around his shoulders before moving back. S
“Thanks.”
Caboose shyly stood there. “Would you mind, if, um…”
Doc sighed and was about to say “You can sit.” when O’Malley decided enough was e-fucking-nough.
Caboose watched Doc stand and turn to face him. He gasped when the face that looked at him wasn’t Doc’s.
O’Malley gripped Caboose’s wrist angrily, the blue trying to escape. Watery blue eyes stared at the A.I. fearfully. O’Malley pushed Caboose back, towards the edge of the base.
/O’Malley, stop! Stop!/ Doc rushed forward, grabbing the mental O’Malley in his head.
O’Malley didn’t stop. Not until he was at the edge of the base himself. Doc could only watch, horrified, as Caboose fell backwards.
