Dreams and Reality

(Sora's POV)

After laughing off all of the stress and worry, we decide to go to Hollow Baston to see if Leon or the others can possibly help with my dilemma. As we board the ship I turn and look back at Traverse Town. When we first arrived here I was glad that something in my life hadn’t changed, yet in a way, it has. Now when I think of this place, I will forever remember the nightmare that started here. I know I have to think positively, so I shake my head and get on the ship.

I sit down in the back, letting Goofy help with take off for once. Lying back, I start to think of Riku. I don’t really know when I realized that I liked my best friend, but it really hit me when I had to leave him behind in the darkness. I have to wonder, does he feel the same about me? Though I promised Kairi that I would come back to her, I know I would leave in an instant if it was for Riku. The only reason I press forward now is the promise of finding him. My mind starts to shut down; even though I want to think more about Riku. The last thing I see is Donald looking back, smiling, probably thinking that I will finally get some sleep without side effects.

I’m back on my island, sitting on a tree branch with Kairi on my left and Riku on my right. We are laughing at a joke I never heard. Laughter shook through me and before I know it, I fall out of the tree.

“Sora!” Riku chuckles out and gets out of the tree. Kairi hops down as well and starts to help me up. Brushing dirt off of my pants, I flash a smile at Kairi. Suddenly, Kairi flings me away from herself. Landing on my back, my gaze flashes to the girl; confusion racking my brain. What the hell is going on? Looking to Riku, I ask him silently what’s wrong. Pain glimmers past his eyes before it’s quickly replaced with a slight smirk. My eyes go back to Kairi; fear starting to form in the pit of my stomach. She’s standing in a fighting pose; a curved dagger settling in her grasp. It’s pointed directly at my heart.

“Kairi….?”

“Sora,” Riku starts, “You’re going to have to face some of your biggest fears in the near future. Be strong and don’t give in.” A second later Kairi lunges at me with the curved blade. I block the attack with my keyblade, but fall on my butt from the force of the attack.

“Kairi, what the hell are you doing?!?” She just stands there, letting the blade hang loosely in her hand.

Riku speaks again, with that knowing smirk still setting upon his face.

“You will be tested Sora. A force you thought was trustworthy will try to break you. If this force gains the power it seeks, we will all suffer the consequences.” I look at him with such a longing. What he told me shocked me, but I can’t help but stare at him. My focus is jolted by Kairi jumping at me again, except I’m prepared for her attack. I cast a fire spell on her dagger. It’s too hot for her to hold, so she drops it. I try to reach for Riku, needing him now more than ever. His back is turned towards me, but I don’t care. I almost have his arm in my grasp, but Kairi is able to hold her weapon again. At the same moment I almost get to Riku, Kairi slashes my back with her blade. Intense pain shoots through my back. I fall to the ground; not being able to move. Pain starts to make my vision blur. I have enough strength to hold my head up to see if Riku is ok.

He’s fine. Kairi is standing beside Riku; his smile and her dagger, are no longer visible. I can feel the blood starting to run off my back, like I’m some kind of candle the wax is melting off of.

“You must succeed Sora, or you will lose everything.” It’s Kairi who gives me the warning this time. I try to reach out to them, trying to prove to myself they are real. Instead they vanish into thin wisps of smoke. My arm falls and tears form in my eyes. I can no longer stand the pain and I black out.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I awake with a jolt. My heart is still racing from the dream. Suddenly the pain in my back returns. I quickly run to the bathroom, pulling off my shirt and looking at my back in the mirror. There, diagonally down my back is a huge scar in the exact same spot Kairi had made her attack. My eyes widen in disbelief. How can this be possible? Wasn’t that only a dream?
