Prisoner

The head of the order walked into Eroth’s room, unannounced. Just like the good old days. And it still pissed him off. It wasn’t even like Eroth was part of the order. He could care less about the stupid priests, their holier-than-thou attitudes, and their righteous work for the light. The least he could do was knock. He smirked when he remembered when he’d walked in on him and Prin as they were making love. The look on his face had been priceless. You’d think he’d have learned.
“And what are you smirking about, Eroth?” He asked.
“The good old days.” Eroth said. “How are you this fine day?”
“Quite well, thanks to you.” The head of the order said.
“I’m glad I could make you happy, sir.” Eroth replied with a mocking bow.
“You’re return to the world of the living has opened the door to defeating the scourge.” The head of the order said. “Camilla claims you have no memory of your time with the scourge.”
“None at all.” Eroth said.
“A shame. It could have been useful in our war.” He said. “We will appreciate your cooperation in continuing to study any effects this has had on you. We will also work to attempt to regain your memory of the past years.”
“So I get to be a guinea pig.” Eroth said.
“No, you shall be a valuable asset to the light.” He said.
“An asset to the light? By the darkness, that sounds fun!” The statement was dripping with sarcasm. He rolled his eyes and sat in a chair.
“You’ll need to stay in Stormwind. And the order must know where you are at all times.” He said.
“What?!” Eroth said. “Are you saying I’m a prisoner?!”
“No. But it is important that for the sake of furthering the knowledge of how to reverse the plague, we must know where you are, what you’re doing, and anything unusual you feel.”
“I’m a prisoner.” Eroth growled.
“I can assure you, you’ll want for nothing while you are in assistance to the order.” He said. “We’ve sent word to Prin. That was her name was it not?”
Eroth was fuming. How could they say he would want for nothing while he was living in captivity and constant observation? “Get out!” He growled.
“The king is in agreement with our decision. If you attempt to flee, you will be imprisoned.” He said. “So the choice is yours. Flee and spend your life in prison, or remain in stormwind, under the watchful eye of the order, and live a comfortable life however you see fit.” With that, the head of the order turned to leave.
“Darkness bless you!” Eroth said.
The head of the order turned with a glare but said nothing. He slammed the door behind him.
Eroth threw a vase at the closed door. “Tauren-fucking, son-of-a-BITCH!!” He growled. He let loose a string of curses in every language he knew. Thoughts of escape quickly came to mind. But how? Maybe Prin could help him.
He cursed and grumbled until a knock came to his door. “What?!” He growled.
The door opened and Cammi peeked her head in. “Brother?” She said.
He sighed. “Come on in, Cammi.” Eroth said.
Cammi came in and sat in a chair beside him. She glanced at the broken glass. “Bad news?” She asked.
“I’m a prisoner.” Eroth said. “I’m not allowed to leave Stormwind and they must know everything I do, think or feel.”
“How awful.” Cammi said.
Eroth sighed again. “Let’s forget it for now.” He said. “How long have I been gone?”
“Five years.” She replied.
“So long? By the darkness...” He shook his head. “What has happened since I was gone?”
“I became a priest. Mother passed away. Prin joined a group of adventurers and left.” She said. “Honesty, not a whole lot.”
“A priest? Really?” Eroth asked. His mother dying didn’t surprise him. He’d deal with that pain later. “What happened to you swearing to be a great warlock?”
“I only wanted to be a warlock because I liked your imp. He was so cute!” She said.
“Ah.” He said and stood. After mere seconds of casting a spell, his imp appeared in the room.
Cammi giggled in delight and scooped up the small demon.
“A priest who likes demons... interesting.” Eroth said sitting back down. His imp looked around confused. He looked at the human who had a hold of him with distrust. He glanced at his master and stared. “I see your memory isn’t lacking, little friend.” Eroth said.
“Master?” The imp said. “What happened to you?”
“I’m human again, little friend.” Eroth said.
“Why? How?” Asked the worried imp.
“The order has reversed the plague.” Cammi said.
The imp glanced at the girl again. He then seemed to recognize her and happily cuddled into her lap.
“Well, he hasn’t changed any.” Cammi said happily as she cuddled the tiny demon.
“Not at all.” Eroth said with a sigh.
