Knuckles yawned and stretched his arms and hugged Rouge. “Are you ok?” he whispered into her twitching ear. He felt her head nod as she lay on his muscular chest. “Good” He smiled. “I don’t want to move from this spot” Rouge sighed as she looked up at Knuckles’s violet eyes “Me either…” groaned the echidna “But we must soon.” “I know…but not yet eh?” “Yeah…” Knuckles yawned.
The sun moved slowly across the horizon. “Hey, you…It’s about noon now, we’d better get going” shrugged Knuckles to Rouge. “Okay” she groaned and stretched. “I’ll just wait outside while you get your clothes on” he smirked. Rouge nodded and blushed slightly. Knuckles was still feeling the effects from the battle he had four days ago. He began cracking his joints and bending his back as much as he could. “Ooo” he sighed. “You old man!” laughed Rouge. “Whoa! How long where you there for?” cried Knuckles. “Long enough!” she replied quickly “Shall we go now?” grumbled Knuckles. “After you grandpa!” giggled Rouge who now had a grin like a Cheshire Cat. “Heh” smiled Knuckles.
They slowly walked through the grass countryside before coming across on another forest area. “Hey Rouge just look up!” said Knuckles “That’s the Master Emerald Shrine isn’t it?” she squinted at the large rock formation “Yep, that’s where we are going now! Nothing can stop us…” slowed Knuckles. Rouge motioned to say something but Knuckles shock his head vigorously at Rouge. Rouge listened closely and she heard some low buzzing and whirring noises. Knuckles ran towards a waterfall and stopped and motioned Rouge to follow. When Rouge had caught up Knuckles mumbled “The waterfall should help mask our voices. There is something going on at the top of this water, something mechanical.” Rouge nodded. “Well…I don’t know what it could be but it’s not welcome here! You want to help me…Rouge?” asked Knuckles gently. She smirked and said “Keep count of what you destroy!” They looked and smiled at each other and began to scale the wall quickly. Knuckles was now gritting his teeth trying to block the pain from his battle with the animal.
They jump over the cliff and there were multiple hovering robots clearing trees in the area. Knuckles and Rouge were counting as they destroyed the robots “…Seven…” shouted Knuckles “…Nine…” screamed Rouge as one nicked her shoulder. “…Ten…” Panted Knuckles as he looked as Rouge and saw that she was hurt but one robot was left. Rouge had one screw kick left in her and destroyed the robot. “Draw then?” Knuckles laughed “Yeah” moaned Rouge as she was holding her arm. “Let’s have a look at that then” Said Knuckles to Rouge. She took her arm away from the shoulder to reveal a small gash. “It’s just a flesh wound!” she said shakily. “You should be okay when we get back to my house” said Knuckles. “Shit! Knuckles we got some more robots coming from that building.” Sighed Rouge “Great!” moaned Knuckles who was now starting to feel the pain of his own injuries. “You…have a…Eleven…house?” said Rouge as she destroyed two robots. “Well it keeps…the rain off…thirteen…” grunted Knuckles. “Oh...Thirteen… I suppose it would be nice…” muttered Rouge. “So that’s thirteen each then?” shrugged Knuckles. “Yeah…” said Rouge. Knuckles noticed her ear twitch. “Duck!” shouted Rouge. Knuckles got onto the ground straight away and Rouge used him like a springboard and destroyed an air robot preparing to dive bomb on them. “Fourteen!” shouted Rouge.
Rouge glided gently down. Knuckles gave her a sarcastic clap. “Thank you!” laughed Rouge while bowing. “Now let’s go into that building”.
