Kalas thinks too much
Xelha was bothering him even more. She had volunteered to watch Savyna and Mizuti. Kalas could easily have done that. It bothered him when anyone overworked themselves. Gramps did that all the time. Xelha reminded him constantly of the times Gramps would find a new project and would be in his lab for days just working and adjusting. The two were both equally obsessed, one with creating, the other with protecting. It was noble, but it was stupid.
It was Xelha's intense need to protect him that had somewhat endangered the world. Why the hell hadn't she destroyed him when she had the chance! No, it probably wouldn't have done any good looking back at it, but it proved to him then that she didn't have what it takes to save their lands. She would always try too hard to save those in front of her, to the point of not saving the millions everywhere else. She was loving and protective and too damn altruistic to really save this world. That's why it had to be Kalas, someone willing to take risks, willing to let people fight their own battles. Hell, he would've let Savyna and Mizuti fight by themselves if he'd had a choice in it, but Xelha wouldn't allow any changes to their three person system.
Enough about Xelha, he thought. She was out of his hair for a little while, off killing weak monsters before the other two could even get a shot in. He could be alone now. Lyude and Gibari were talking, and they obviously didn't want to include him. He could just ponder and perambulate all he wanted without annoying questions or comments.
Just then he noticed Gibari run off like a wild pow with a fork in its ass (don't ask how he knew).
"Hey, what was that all about?"
"Oh, he just needed a few moments alone."
Lyude looked too damn happy. Something had to be up.
