The Thief and the Worrior

Some Things...
I peered down the corridor again,just to make sure no one else was comming.

I could hardly believe I was doing this...

If my mother found out then I'd be dead meat.

But if I didn't then we'd go to war.

A war that this country wouldn't be able to stand a chance in.

I took a deep breath and pulled the thin cloak tighter around me.

I tapped on the doorframe of the visiting king's chambers.

Ruby eyes peered out as the door opened slightly before I was allowed entrance.

He knew me.

I had been there before.

Been there for every night of the past week the king had been staying.

My mother had once told me that 'some things come before self'.

My kingdom is one of them.

I obediently bowed my head and slinked over to the large bed.

I was giving the only thing that I could.

This king didn't want gold,jewels or trinkets.

He wanted a toy.

And I happened to be the toy he wanted.

He had trapped me in the hall and hissed in my ear.

"Want to save your kingdom?You know my millitia will wipe it off the map..."

I nodded.

"Come to me tonight."

That first night it hurt so badly that I almost reneged.

But he reminded me that I had given my word.

If I went back on it, my kingdom would be destroyed.

So I faithfully returned every night and endured.

All for the sake of a kingdom I could never hope to rule.

There were too many ahead of me.

My father.

My mother.

My two siblings...

Being the youngest is never an easy thing...

I cry as he forces me again.

"Tonight I claim you."he growled.

I knew what he ment and tilted my head to the side,bareing my throat.

Once he marked me,I could not take another mate until it faded.

It took years for a mating mark to fade.

"You are mine."

"I am yours."I answer hollowly,holding in the tears I want so despreately to shed.

If the others knew what I am doing to save this land...

They'd probably say...

"Why are you hellbent on protecting a land you never have a chance in hell to rule?"

"No one should do this to save a land..."

"Why are you doing this to yourself."

"What kind of sicko are you?"

My answer to all of them...

"Some things come before self."

He growls and sinks his teeth into the soft tissue of my left shoulder.

I cry out.

He gives me a stiff slap across the cheek.

I obediently quietened,eyes beginning to brim with tears.

He withdrew with a satisfied smirk and sat back on the bed.

I curled up and cried.

He sat at the large table across from my mother.

He kept leering at me as I done my best to sink lower in the seat without looking like I was.

"You know..."he said,looking over teh agreement.

//Oh,no...//I think to myself,noting that his eyes flickered towards me.

"I want to add something to this little agreement."

I began to sweat.

"I have no heir and no woman is allowed to rule my kingdom."

My heart began to beat doubletime.

"I need a male heir."

My mother looked at him curiously.

"Your land already has two more in line for the throne."

I gulped.

"I wish to take your youngest son back with me."

"That's propostorus!"she screamed at him,standing.

"Hear me out before you make your descision."he said defensively.

She nodded haughtily,miffed that he would even suggest something like that.

"He has no hope of ruling this...land."

I looked up at my mother.

"I am merely asking for him to become my heir instead."

I was downheartened by her expression.

She seemed to like the idea.

"On one condition."she said to him.

"And that would be?"he rose an eyebrowridge regally,regarding her.

"Hereupon his coronation, our lands will unite."

He nodded to her.

I whined in the back of my throat and slipped down in the seat.

I can't believe that he had so brazenly asked my mother to own me.

But I will go.

Even if it means staying his toy for teh rest of my life.

For it will keep my kingdom from dying out.

I will sacrifice myself to save a kingdom I'll never rule...

A short time later I had my things all packed.

A knock on my door drew my attention away from the photo I held.

My mother entered the room and looked at me.

"You should be happy."she said softly,touching my arm.

I shook my head."He wants his toy to come with him."

"Wha?"

I turned to her and dropped the photo on the bed.

"He wasn't going to sign it."I say quietly,folding my ears back.

She blinked.

"He cornered me and made a proposition."

She nodded for me to continue.

"And I agreed."

"What proposition was that,might I ask?"

"He said he didn't want money or jewels or trinkets. He wanted a toy.An untouched toy."

Dawning appeared in the lavender hedgehog's eyes.

"Why?"she asked as I turned away and looked out the window of my room.

I knew this would be the last time I saw the kingdom spread below me.

For this would no longer be my kingdom.

"I gave the only thing I could to save them from a war none of us would survive."

"But why let him use you like that?"she seemed... disappointed in my descision.

I turned back to her,tears glittering.

"Some things come before self,you once told me.And this kingdom,-a land I can never hope to rule- is one
of them."
