Chapter 4. What Happened In The Past!

From atop the roof of one of the many home in Kakariko village, one of its residents peered the mountain in the distance as a loud rumble broke the usually peaceful silence. He rocked backward on the rooftop and stood up, one hand blocking the sun from his eyes as he watched the mountain erupt, a long wave of heat exploding into the sky, the red hue that hung over head dispersing into the beautiful blue sky.

He looked in awe as the large mountain flamed and then died away, the red ring becoming nothing but a grey smog like it had been before. He looked around at the other people below, not surprised that everyone else was also watching in pure amazement as the mountain returned to normal. He sighed and sat down, looking up at the mountain once again like he always did.

The wind dusted through the small village and up over the rotating wings of the windmill, it’s swept north toward Death Mountain, rising over the many jagged rocks and down into the trail that lead to the very top of the cliff side. It wisped into the crater above and drove through the heated area, dying away to the broiling smog that rose above the high peak.

Unbeknownst to the people below of their newfound safety, a small glitter of light darted through the immense heat, fluttering up over the rocks and out into the cool mountain breeze. The silver and blue glow darted down the high walls of the mountain face and trailed down into the village, passing under a large mans legs and out over the village entrance an into the fields of Hyrule.

The small fluttering creature stopped at the base of the stairs, fluttering quickly in the wind. It bobbed up and down and darted toward the broken market of the palace, passing under the archway and entering into the ghostly town. The small light batted it’s wings hard and floated swiftly toward the only standing building within the town.

The Temple of Time.

The small ball of light fluttered through the open doors and passed into the Master Swords Chamber, stopping at the gateway when she noticed two figures appear like magic before the bare pedestal. One held the other in his strong arms, his face creased with worry. He placed the limp body down, running a scarred hand slowly down the paler mans face to the nook of his neck and onto his chest.

“Is he alive?”

“Barely,” was the whispered reply.

“Oh, Link.”

“Worry not, Navi, I am certain he will live. He is strong.”

“You say that now, Sheik,” the fairy whispered. “He has been broken for the past days he begun to have those dreams.”

Sheik lowered his head at the fairies tight tone, the blue gleam that surrounded her beautiful ora glowing red with her anger and fear. She flittered to the ground, seemingly floating over the surface of the Master Swords Chamber and glided up the unconscious Hylians body. Her wings drooped sadly.

“He is so weak,” she whispered.

Sheik looked at her, his eyes sullen with worry. He grabbed the unconscious Hero’s hand and entangled their fingers together, his other hand gliding across the dusty and wet face from the smoggy volcano. He could feel the slow beating of the Hero’s heart, but it was faint. He feared the worst for the Hero of Time.

“He needs medicine,” Sheik said, knowing it would be the only thing that would help.

“What kind?” Navi asked, floating up to be at face level with the Sheikah.

“A potion from the old hag in Kakariko,” Sheik explained. “I will go and– ”

“No, I will go,” Navi said sternly.

“You will have to make it back here quickly,” Sheik said, telling her the deepest truth.

“I can be quick,” she said honestly. “And besides, I think you should be here when he wakes up... you two have much to talk about.”

Sheik lowered his head once again and leveled his eyes on the bloodied Hylian, watching as Link took in a slow weak breath and let it out, his eyes squeezed tightly shut in pain. His head lolled to one side and then the other, his lips cracked and bleeding badly. Sheik heard the descent of the fairy and looked to her as she disappeared through the double doors. He ran a hand slowly across Link’s burnt cheek and frowned sadly.

“Please, Link,” Sheik whispered, a tear leaking from his right eye. “I don’t want to lose you.”

The Sheikah felt a squeeze to his hand, but it was weak. He leaned down, brushing his lips softly across the Hero’s forehead and pressed a gentle kiss on it. He rolled his forehead against Links and sighed, closing his ruby red eyes and leaning forward to press a kiss to the cracked and bleeding lips, tasting the salty blood and volcanic ash.

‘Hurry Navi...’ Sheik looked up at the looming darkness that was befalling Hyrule and the surrounding areas. ‘You don’t have much time...’

*~*~*

The light glow of her body glistened in the dying sun, her wings beating fast as she rushed through the village, dodging the many workers and the odd person that had escaped from the ruins of Hyrule. She stopped, looking around slowly and focused on the fenced of area leading to the old hags home just beyond.

“Ohh, pretty!”

Navi gasped as a jar came down above her and landed with a dull thud. She quivered and uncovered her small head, looking around at the glass frame sealing her away from the rest of the world. She gasped, her wings immediately buzzing fast like that of a hummingbird as she darted into the air and hit the top of the glass container with a dull ‘WHAP!’

She placed her small hands on her head and rubbed the now tender area making a quick note to herself. ‘Don’t fly in glass jar.’ She looked up at the concealed roofing of her prison, watching as the sun sank below the top of Death Mountain and was slowly disappearing from the world. She turned quickly, the moon peaking over the ridge of Kokiri forest in the west.

Her heart thundered. She had to get back before nightfall or – she feared her own thoughts – Link would parish because she could not save him.

She paled.

“What a beautiful specimen.”

She looked up, her small glowing frame shimmering over a very wide-grinning face, the mans eyes squinted shut. He looked creepy with that big grin in place, his hand coming round and corking the bottom of the jar and turning it over, making Navi fall to the bottom with another dull thud and light groan.

Was this man retarded?

“What a pretty thing you are... whatever that would be?”

Yep, definitely retarded.

She glared at him though she knew he could not see her look. Her light was far to bright for him to see her small lithe body and young but wise serene face that now cast an angered and enraged glare in the mans crooned way.

He tilted the jar to the side, making the fairy slide along the bottom and then tilted it in the opposite direction, Navi’s legs sliding along the soft surface, her back contacting with the opposite round wall of the glass jar. He was the biggest idiot she had every seen. Not only could he not tell she was a fairy – how did the wings and bright glowing light not give it away, she did not know – he had that dopy grin that just screamed ‘look at me I’m a freak and I don’t give a flying rats ass.’

The hint glow of blue around her body glowed a silver of red, giving way to her anger. The smiling man seemed to gasp in awe at the change in the color around her body and bobbed the jar up and down slowly and pathetically, shaking her like a rag doll. She groaned and floated into the air, smacking the glass container and startling the odd man.

He released his hold on the jar and it fell to the ground with a ‘clunk,’ the cork barely sliding loose. Navi smirked triumphantly and sailed toward it, pushing with all her small might and trying to make it budge. She felt the jar tilting around her and watched as that annoying ginning face came back into view, the cork being forced back down tightly.

‘This is really starting to tick me,’ Navi snarled inwardly. ‘What a dope.’

The shaking of the glass prison quickened, rattling back and forth. She felt the thick brown cork knock down on her head, making her small form dizzy for a brief moment before she regained her stability. The weird, smiling like a creep man, had stopped the quick movement of the bottle, staring at her longingly again.

“What are you creature?” he asked, yelling into the bottle from the outside.

Navi glanced at the sun and paled, watching as the burning orb lowered further into the eastern mountains just beyond Death Mountain. She swallowed uncertainly and turned back to the smiling man, glaring spitefully at him. She was going to lose Link, and all of Hyrule would fall into ruins and burn because she could not complete one simple task.

Her heart sank and she fluttered to the bottom of the jar, her wings drooping as her heart sank lower into the pit of her stomach, weighing down on her like liquid pain. She wrapped her tiny arms around her petite form and sighed, leaning heavily against the thick clear glass. Her wings bent oddly, wrapping partially around the cylinder as she felt the man begin to walk away toward a small home near the graveyard.

‘Link... I’m sorry,’ she thought, looking up at the rising moon.

*~*~*

Sheik looked, for the umpteenth time, out into the Sacred Chamber that entered into the Master Swords Octagonal Room. The fairy had still not returned and the light of the sun had dipped passed the stained-glass window that stood high above the chamber and let the rays of either the moon or sun burn down onto the master swords vacant pedestal.

Where was she?

He looked back at Link, one arm draped across his rising chest, the other lain lazily down the few steps that lead up to the Master Swords pedestal. He looked back out into the Chamber once more before returning to the Hero’s side, sitting down on the second lowest step to the Hero’s battered body. He watched the Hylian sleep in his unconscious state, his face paler than usual and his head bruised from where he had been struck by some of the falling debris and thick rock pieces.

Sheik turned away from his entranced state of staring at the beautiful, yet practically lifeless body, of the Hero and looked back out over the Temple of Time, waiting for the fairy to return. He knew she was quick, but it had been more than an hour since she had dispersed and still had not returned with the potion to help heal and cure the dying Hero.

No... he’s not dying.

Sheik turned back to look at the pale form, his eyes shadowing as he lowered his head, his bangs concealing the pain in his ruby orbs. How he wanted so badly to see the Hero’s beautiful ice blue gems open once more and gaze softly at him like that of a child. His body itched to pull the Hero into his arms and press his lips so lovingly to Link’s, whispering softly that he loved him and that he hadn’t meant to hurt him in the past.

Something ghosted across his arm.

He froze at the feeling, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end.

He turned quickly, and sighed. He reached out to the Hylian who’s hand was unconsciously running across the Sheikah’s lower arm so softly. Sheik intertwined his and Link’s fingers, holding the hand soft yet firmly in his own. He lifted the hand to his lips and pressed and delicate kiss to the soft skin, closing his ruby eyes before opening them again as he lowered the hand back to the Hylian’s side.

‘Come on. Navi,” Sheik thought, turning to look back out over the Temple. ‘Where are you... I have to go.’

He stood up, releasing Link’s hand and began to walk away. His body screamed at him to turn back to the Hero and be at his side, but he had to save the one he loved. He had to get Link that potion, whether or not that meant leaving him for a brief moment or staying to watch him die. No, he would not let him die.

A groan stopped him.

“Sheik... don’t leave... me.”

The words were faint and weak, but they were enough to make the Sheikah turn and stare at the visibly painful look in Link’s eyes. They were barely open, but he could still see the silver glow in their blue depths as the moon slowly rose into the sky and the sun dip away farther into the mountains. He moved swiftly back to Link’s side, kneeling down before the weak body and pulling both of Link’s hands into his own.

“Oh, Goddesses, I thought I lost you,” Sheik whispered through a long low sigh.

“Where... where am... I?” Link muttered, rolling his head to look at his surroundings.

“We are in the Temple of Time, Link,” Sheik said softly, running a hand softly through the Hylian’s blonde bangs. “You’re safe here.”

Link seemed to go rigid with fear. “Where’s Volvagia?”

“Hush,” Sheik whispered, calming the shaken male. “With your final ounce of strength you were able to slay the beast and save the Goron’s.”

“I–I was?”

“Yes, you were.”

Sheik leaned down and gently pressed his lips to Link’s, not wanting to startle the Hero but wanting his love to be known. He was surprised at first when he felt Link deepen their kiss, his mouth pressing more firmly to the Sheikah’s and his tongue ghosting across Sheik’s bottom lip but not entering his mouth.

They parted slowly, azure blue eyes meeting fiery red. Sheik smiled happily at Link and pressed another quick kiss to the Hylian’s lips out of sheer happiness. He slid his hand down along Link’s face to his cheek and cupped it softly, placing his forehead against the Hero’s gently and letting out a shuddering laugh.

“You really know how to scare someone,” Sheik laughed lightly.

Link smiled weakly and looked around. “Where is Navi?”

“She has gone to get you some medicine from the witch doctor in Kakariko,” Sheik informed.

Link groaned and rolled his head to the side again, pain thundering behind his eyes and his body feeling like a limp noodle. He willed himself to move and slowly began to sit up, but hissed in pain as his muscles and bones rejected his movements in their own manner. He felt Sheik’s hands on his shoulders and looked up into those soul-binding crimson eyes.

“Stay still,” Sheik soothed. “Your body is to weak to move.”

“This floor is only making it worse,” Link gritted out through clenched teeth as he hissed in pain again.

He felt Sheik shift and sit down where his head had been lying. He felt the Sheikah place pressure on his shoulders and reluctantly laid back down on the males warm thighs. His heart thundered as he sought how close he was to Sheik’s manhood and stifled the blush rising to his cheeks. He felt far more comfortable than he had been and sighed, lolling his head to look out over the temple before closing his eyes wearily.

“Sheik,” Link mumbled tiredly.

“Yes, Link?”

“Stay with me for the night?”

Sheik smiled and leaned down to press a silent kiss to the Hero’s forehead. “Of course.”

*~*~*

Navi sat drawing lazy circled on the bottom of her jar, eyes following the grinning man as he moved around his small room. He disappeared behind a curtain and reappeared shortly after holding a larger glass jar. He smiled at Navi annoyingly like so many times before and walked toward her. She watched with the mildest of interest.

“Now, my little darling,” the grinning man piped while showing her the bottle. “This will be your new home.”

‘He had better not be saying what I think he’s saying,’ Navi thought, glaring daggers at the freaky man.

“I think I’ll make you my pet,” he chirped.

‘BASTARD...’

The man grabbed the cork in one hand, positioning the larger bottle over the end as he suctioned away the thick piece of oak. Navi took her chance. She pelted into the air with speed, gasping as she watched her freedom approaching slowly. Her face contorted into a smile as she burst through the top of the small jar with a cry of delight.

She turned just as the large bottle came down upon her and dodged, floating under the opening and into the grinning mans surprised face. She frowned at him, her glow becoming a heated red and her wings fluttering rapidly. She raised a hand and smacked his face with the open side of her palm, making the man giggle like a little girl.

“How cute,” he cheered.

He smacked his hands together, trying to grab her, but she soared away, breaking for the open window above the door. She could feel the mans rapid breath at her backside and pushed faster as her heart began to thump loudly. She gritted her teeth together and pushed harder, breaking away from the man and diving through the window into her freedom.

“YES,” Navi cried.

She looked to the mans home as the door glided open quickly, his crazed face breaking through the doorway and frightening her. She yelped and dove into one of the two jars that lines his house, huddling down close to the bottom. She watched him walk by slowly, sneaking through the short grass and looking around with wary eyes.

Once out of view, Navi took her chance and flew from the jar, staying close to the wall of the house and behind the two ceramic containers as she watched him walk through the village slowly, eyes scanning the flowers and many crates that lined the homes and streets of the small town. She swallowed as his eyes scanned back by his home and ducked away, fearing he had seen her. She willed herself to peek out at the bustling village and sighed when he disappeared into one of the shops.

‘Now’s my chance.’

She took to the skies, floating over the many red roofs and gliding in behind the merchandise shop. The door to the potion hags shop was open by barely a crack, giving her enough berth to sneak through. She stepped lightly across the dull red carpet, looking around at the dimly lit room and the long counter opposite her.

“E-excuse m-me,” Navi said, her voice shaky.

She fluttered up to the counter, sitting atop the mahogany surface and let her eyes slowly waver over the wrinkled clothes up to the boney neck and higher until the scanned her small eyes across the long crooked nose to the small beady eyes of the potion hag. She swallowed, her fears trickling slowly into her nerves and paralyzing her to the spot.

“What do you want?” the hag barked.

Navi jumped at the woman’s scratchy voice but kept her composure as best she could. She let her eyes drift down the woman arms to the black cat that rested just under one of the woman’s old hands, the blinking slit of eyes staring at the fairy with interest and with predatory instinct.

Navi took a breath. “I need a potion for a friend. He’s dying and I–”

“You need what?” the woman asked loudly.

Navi sighed. “I need a potion to help heal a dear friend of mine. Can you help me?”

“Can I help you?” the woman repeated, stroking her felines back.

“Yes, can you?”

“Can I?” she repeated.

Navi sighed with annoyance. ‘This woman is as dumb as that grinning man.’

“Hmmmm,” the woman hummed.

“Can you or cant you?” Navi snapped, the woman barely toeing her annoyance line.

“What what...” the hag gasped. “Did you just yell at me?”

“No I was yelling at your cat,” Navi said sarcastically. “Will you help me, or not?”

The woman looked at her, one beady eyes scanning the small ball of light while the other seemed to float inexplicably in the woman’s head, rolling this way and that to focus in some odd direction before beginning to swivel in her head again and look in another direction. Navi swallowed while she watched the eyes move across the back wall and roll into the back of the woman head. She swallowed the nausea rising in her throat.

“Yes... I can help you,” the hag finally answered.

Navi beamed. “You can?”

“I can.”

“Oh, thank you, thank you,” Navi chimed.

The old hag dimmed the lights, Navi’s heart slowly sinking with the feeling as the woman disappeared into the darkness beyond the counter. The walls seemed to stare at her blindly, making the hairs on the small of her neck stand slowly in fright. She rolled her hands together, noticing how clammy they were and felt her fingers shaking. She squinted through the darkness, trying to see the old hag but couldn’t.

Two glowing eyes appeared in the darkness, and Navi felt her blood run completely cold. She stepped back, her legs shaking and feeling like nothing but bitter jelly. She quivered on the spot, trying to swallow but couldn’t. Her tongue ran out to run dryly across her paled lips and she gasped.

“HERE YOU ARE...”

Navi screamed, falling off the counter and landing on the carpet with a ‘flump.’ She could feel her small heart racing within her chest, beads of sweat running down her forehead and into her eyes to sting them. The eyes she had seen... they had been the hags all along, not some beast like her mind was wildly thinking off. She shuddered at the creepy way they seemed to stare at her.

“Where’d you go?” the hag asked over the desk.

‘Goddesses, is everyone stupid in this town?’ Navi wondered.

She sat up slowly and floated back onto the counter with some difficulty. The woman produced a small diamond shaped bottle, the gems around the neck glimmering in the low firelight that lined the dark brown walls and seeped into the deep red of the carpet. A small string wound around the bottles neck making her able to carry the large item.

“You must get the potion to your friend in fifteen minutes or the ingredients will rot and it wont work,” the hag explained. “Fly swiftly little fairy.”

Navi nodded, grabbing the string wrapped around the bottle and heaving it into the air. She turned, her wings beating fast as she floated out the door and up into the sky, her eyes adjusting slowly to the dim light of the sun that was now barely a rim of light peering over the western hillsides. She took a breath and fluttered over the tops of the village and out over the sign that said Kakariko village.

‘Don’t worry, Link,’ she said, hoping to all hope he was okay. ‘I’m coming.’

*~*~*

Link groaned, his muscles sore and his back and legs very stiff. He sat up slowly, his head pounding with a rising headache. His eyes stung with pain and his neck felt like it was broken in more than one place. He hissed through his teeth as he slowly rose of the ground into a sitting position, rubbing the soreness of his neck and shoulders. His vision was blurred as he slowly took in his surroundings, recognizing the fuzzy image of the pedestal and the stained-glass window that was set high up in the wall.

“I’m so sore,” he mumbled to himself.

He leaned forward, burying his face in his hands and groaning as he tried to subdue the pounding of his head. His temples thumped and his eyes were teary from being so dry. He blinked a few times but they were still blurry. He groaned a second time and rubbed his tender eyelids that were so very heavy.

Somebody lying next to him caught his immediate attention and he turned, looking down quickly and immediately regretting it as his head spun and thumped painfully. He moaned, lying back on the ground and gripping his head as the pain seared through him like rapid heat. He felt suddenly cold, shuddering and holding himself for heat.

Next to him, Sheik stirred, feeling the shuddering movement at his side. He turned over, looking down at the Hero that was curled next to him, holding himself for warmth. He saw Link’s eyes closed and immediately panicked. He pulled himself into a sitting position and placed a hand on the Hylian’s shuddering shoulder, shaking it softly.

“Link,” he whispered.

The said Hero opened his eyes, looking up at the worried Sheikah. He bit softly on his lower lip and huddled into the warmth of the body next to him, gripping onto the fabric of Sheik’s clothes. He breathed in the spicy smell of the Sheikah’s body and shuddered again as another wave of cold washed across his body, making his bones chill.

“What’s wrong, Link?” Sheik whispered softly, a little shocked the Hero was holding him so tightly. “Are you okay. Are you still sore?”

Link groaned softly and looked up, blue eyes meeting red and sighed. He huddled closer to the Sheikah and leaned his head against the males chest, listening to the rapids beats of his heart. He gripped Sheik’s upper arm and held him closer, closing his blue eyes and letting the sound of the Sheikah’s heart lull him slowly.

“Sheik?” Link whispered.

“What is it, Hero of Time?” Sheik asked softly, running a hand slowly through the Hylian’s golden hair.

“Why did you do it?”

Sheik was silent.

Link pulled away slowly, his body protesting but he didn’t pay any attention. He looked into Sheik’s ruby eyes, watching as the Sheikah seemed to be battling himself on the inside, his eyes distant and detached. He looked away from the Hero, obviously uncomfortable and sighed slowly, knowing that the question was going to come sooner or later, and it came a lot sooner than he had expected.

“Sheik?” Link whispered, placing a hand softly on one tanned cheek.

Sheik turned back slowly and looked into the soft blues of the Hero.

“The village was being attacked and I didn’t know what to do,” Sheik whispered, taking one of Link’s hands in his own. “They were killing all the children in the village like Ganondorf ordered. I... I didn’t want you to be one of those children so I...”

Link watched as Sheik turned away, eyes tightly closed. A tear sprinkled from the corner of his left eyes, dripping onto Link’s hand. He looked down at the shimmering liquid diamond as it rolled on to his pinky and onto the floor, shattering.

“You what?” Link asked in a whispered, turning the Sheikah’s head back to look at his soft blue orbs.

“I acted like I didn’t want you,” Sheik whispered, cupping Link’s face in his hands. “I forced you away to save you. You did surprise me thought.”

A sad smile graced Sheik’s lips as he placed one of his hands over Link’s that was still on the Sheikah’s cheek, kissing the inner palm softly with his trembling lips. He looked back at the Hero, the confused yet serene look making his heart lift, but he could still feel him quivering every so often.

“What do you mean?” Link asked. “How did I surprise you?”

“When you slapped me,” Sheik said with a light laugh. “When I saw you run away... it broke my heart, but I knew I had to let you go. I... I couldn’t cope with life if you had died due to my selfishness for wanting you.”

“You want me?” Link gasped.

Sheik looked at him utterly shocked. “Of course I Do. Every since I saw you alone and cold when Zelda was chased from the castle I... I fell in love with you.”

‘He loves me,’ Link thought in surprise. ‘All that time I thought he hated me and now... I realize... he was only trying to protect me.’

Sheik was about to turn away, not wanting to look into those wide blue eyes. He had finally told the one he loved so dearly, the truth. It had truly hurt watching the Hero of Time run from him in tears, eyes burning with hatred those seven years ago... but he had to. He had saved Link from a world of pain and death at Ganondorf’s evil hands and allowed the Hero to grow up and become a true legend.

He was shocked when he felt Link’s soft lips touch his shyly, holding his upper arms in a tight, yet gentle, embrace. His eyes flickered softly as he watched the Hero’s blue orbs close slowly, their ghostly kiss deepening to one of true passion. Sheik also closed his eyes, sliding one arm around the Hero’s slim waist, the other lacing into the golden strands of hair that fell around Link’s delicate face. He lowered the Hylian back onto the floor, his body partially sliding over top the Hero’s, their passion igniting into lost love and ecstacy.

Link broke their kiss, gasping for air as his lungs began to protest against him. He panted, opening his blue eyes to pools of deep and clouded crimson. He lifted his hands and tangled them within Sheik’s sandy-coloured mane, pulling the Sheikah down for another intimate kiss, their eyes half-lidded with lust and love.

“Ahem...”

They broke apart, turning to the source of the sound. Navi bobbed in the air, her wings beating quickly, the bottle of purple-coloured potion hanging from within the bright glow that surrounded her body. The rim of blue was hued pink with her blush as she had witnessed their intimacy as she glided toward them.

Just seeing the child she was to watch over alive and well was enough to make her heart race. She settled on Link’s chest and Sheik sat up to give her space, her small arms rested along Link’s chest as she hugged him and then sat up with a glare.

“Don’t you every frighten me like that again,” she yelled, though her voice was filled with happiness.

“I’m sorry, Navi,” Link said with a crooked smile.

She smiled in return and turned to Sheik. “I have the potion.”

He plucked it from her with a smile and a nod and opened the small crystal cap. Link watched with mild curiosity as Sheik leaned down over him and held the bottle out to his mouth but did not tip it to his lips.

“You need to drink this,” Sheik whispered. “It will help you heal faster.”

“No, I’m okay,” Link protested. “Really I am.”

“Please, Link,” Sheik whispered.

The Hero sighed and allowed Sheik to pull him into his lap. He kept his eyes on the Sheikah’s as the small bottle was tipped to his lips and he drank down the foul tasting serum. He shook his head in disgust and swallowed it, feeling an odd tingling in his body.

“Now sleep,” Sheik whispered, standing up slowly.

“Where are you going?” Link asked, holding the Sheikah’s arm so he could not move.

Sheik smiled and leaned down, pressing his lips delicately to Link’s and then pulling away to brush a few loose strands of hair from the Hylian’s still pale face.

“I only need to speak with your fairy,” he said softly. “I will be back, do not worry.”

Link nodded and laid back, closing his eyes wearily. Navi floated onto Sheik’s shoulder and looked at the man in question. He didn’t return her look and walked away from Link into the opposing Chamber, turning to look at the sleeping Hero of Time. Navi floated down from his shoulder and sat on the Spirit Stone Tablet, watching the Sheikah with interest and wonder.

“You two seem to be doing fine,” she said with a limp smile.

He nodded to her. “I had to tell him.”

“The reason for your having to push him away so long ago,” Navi whispered.

“Yes. He had to know,” Sheik sighed.

“If you do it again, he will never forgive you,” Navi interjected.

He looked down at the wise fairy.

“He has already forgiven you once now,” Navi explained. “If you hurt him again, he wont be able to trust you. You have already hurt him and broken his trust once.”

“It was only to keep him safe,” Sheik muttered.

“But at a price,” Navi opted.

Sheik turned to her again, looking down upon her brightly glowing body and big beautiful butterfly-shaped wings. She fluttered up to him and landed on his shoulder, looking over at the sleeping Hero.

“He gave you something seven years ago,” Navi whispered.

“I know–”

“No, you don’t know,” Navi hissed in a whisper. “He gave you his mind, body and love and you hurt him for it. For that you paid the price of losing his trust... and now you have to gain it back.”

Sheik looked at her as she lifted from his shoulder and floated back over to the sleeping Link. He watched silently as she settled on his chest and lowered her wings and began to sleep. He sat down on the Spirit Stone Tablet, holding his head in his hands as he let the words sink in slowly, letting them ring through his ears.

‘But at a price... he gave you his mind, body and love... now you have to gain it back....’

He looked up again and watched the Hero for a brief moment before standing and walking down the stairs to the exit. His heart fell for his action, but he had to think and do it alone. He opened the door slowly and, with one last look to the man he loved, disappeared through the doorway out into the broken Market of Hyrule.

A/N: Bum bum bummmmmmm! Chapter done. What do you think? If you don’t know (which you would be an idiot if you didn’t) the grinning man was the happy masks salesman. I had to add him in because he just annoys me that much. Man this chapter was long. Just under 16 pages. Well, hope you enjoy and people, please Read and Review. Reviews give me the will to continue writing.
I promise you all I will have a Lemon in the next chapter... hopefully. I still need to get Link through the Ice Caverns and then into the Water Temple AND defeat Dark Link and Morpha before I can add any Lemons... or maybe I can add a Lemon in between somewhere. Well, hope you enjoyed and remember to R&R
