Shepard could feel the freshly fallen snow crush beneath her boots as she walked through the uneven terrain. Behind her she could hear her long time friend Garrus complaining.
"We killed the reapers. How could there be attacks? And why would they attack a batarian in the middle of a cold ass wasteland?", he grumbled.
"At least we are out and about for once. I'm not one for sitting in the Normandy doing nothing.", Kyle replied.
Shepard stopped, for a split sscond she awore she saw something. Evidently she wasn't the only one.
"The fuck is that?!", Kyle exclaimed as he saw a dark goulish creature jumping down into a large icy chasm.
"That, is a husk.", The Commander explained
"Whatever it is its butt ugly."
"You've got that right, annoying little assholes too.", Garrus agreed.
Shepard started to wonder what was down in the chasm.
"We have to follow it."
"I'm down with the big evil crevice.", Kyle responded.
"I'll uh... I can keep an eye out up here.", Garrus suggested ,"I'm not one for caves full of reanimated humans."
"Zombies? I've always wanted to kill zombies." Kyle exclaimed gleefully as he slid down the wall of the crack with Jane.
Shepard landed on the floor of the with a clang.
'Ice shouldn't make that noise.' She thought curiously.
Kyle started prodding the floor with his rifle.
"I don't think it's ice.", He observed.
"Thanks for that, I wouldn't be able to figure that one out on my own.", Shepard replied sacrastically.
As they walked the walls changed fron ice to a metal walkway, obviously artificial.
*Clang!*
"What the hell was that?!", Shepard exclaimed as two metal doors slid down on both ends of a small dimly lit lab, trapping them both within.
"Well isn't this peachy?", Kyle growled as he ripped off his helmet "I didn't even get to shoot up any zombies!"
"It'll be fine I've contacted Garrus already.", Jane sighed as she slid off her helmet, letting the cold air nip at her face.
The both sat against the walls apposite to one another. Jane started to examine Kyle's face. His short blonde hair was slightly matted due to being in his helmet and his eyes pierced her's like needles, which gave her tingles down her spine. One of his eyebrows raised questioningly.
"Something on my face?", He asked uncomfortably.
"Sorry... Its cold down here isn't it?", She asked making an attempt to change the subject.
"Eh, its brisk.", Kyle replied as if he was unimpressed. "Besides, if you're cold, why did you take your helmet off?"
"Maybe it's because I want to talk to you in person.", She responded coyly.
"Well then, what burning questions do you have?"
She sat awkwaedly for a second after that. She wasn't sure she wanted to ask it though.
"What was it like for you growing up?", Jane finally asked.
He grinned evilly as if he was going to tell a spooky story. "It was..."
He stopped smiling.
'What was it?' he asked himself.
