The Hospital Room

Ch. 3: The Hospital Room

Katherine had been walking down the empty foggy street when she came upon the Hospital. She was going to continue her walk when she heard something behind her in the distance. Afraid that it was James, Katherine ran inside the building, only to have the doors lock behind her. That was just her luck.

She had seen the hospital as a safe haven, but now that she was inside she felt trapped. Whoever had been chasing her could come through the very door that she had just entered, maybe it was just locked from inside and not outside. The thought alone urged her to find a place to hide within the old and abandoned hospital.

Katherine made her way quickly through the dusty corridors with out much thought of how the old decrepit building looked foreboding and haunted. She moved though a pair of metal doors in a fast motion and smiled as they slammed shut with a loud click and they locked themselves; surely no one could follow her now.

She ran and paused suddenly in the hallway, the only sound that disturbed the eerie silence was her labored breathing. She bent over and covered her mouth as she began to cough. The thick humid air of the hospital aggravating her lungs. Recovering, she stood up straight, and continued to head down the darkened hallway. Her black boots were quiet against the off white tiled floors and she hoped that she was silent enough that no one would discover her.

She paused suddenly at the loud bang of someone forcing the locked metal doors open. She turned and looked behind herself and down the dark corridor, but all she could see was a tall silhouette. It was either Malic or James and at the moment Katherine would have to assume it was James. In doing so she took a deep breath and ran for it. She flew down the hall way trying to dodge some of the debris in the way. She quickly turned and tried to open a door but it was locked. Quickly she turned to the next door, luckily it was open, but whoever was chasing her caught up with her and pushed her into the room where she landed harshly on the cold tile.

She turned just in time to see Malic slam his large sword/knife into the door so that no one could enter. She gulped at the sight of the metal hitting the concrete wall and metal door like butter. She turned to look at Malic and his expression didn’t help her fear. His frown was deep and filled with disappointment.

“I told you not to leave.” He said in a low and slightly angry tone.

Katherine staggered to her feet and gulped down her fear to answer him, “I couldn’t just stay there and wait.”

Malic took a step towards her and she took one back. There were no more words spoken between them, but the looks they gave each other were enough: one of anger and one of fear. Katherine only stopped when she backed up against one of the hospital beds. She gripped the edge of the tall bed in nervous fear as Malic came to stop in front of her. His hands came up to grip her shoulders as he pulled her against his body before claiming her lips passionately.

When he pulled away Katherine was froze with surprise. “What…”

Malic looked her in the eyes with an almost lost sadness, “I can’t afford to loose you. Without you, there is nothing and no one.”
