Chapter 3
“A blood bank?” Skelter questioned as he looked around the lower floor of the hospital. “I didn’t think a Malk would be that…logical.” Putting a ghoul in charge of a blood bank so that you had an unlimited blood supply was something he would expect from a Ventrue not a Malkavian.
“It was probably Therese’s idea.” Damsel commented as she hurried down the set of stairs to where the ghoul was standing behind the window. He had circles under his eyes and a distinctly crazed look to him but not so much that someone would instantly point him out to the men in white coats.
“Hi there. What can I get for ya?” He asked with a never ceasing smile. “AB positive? O negative? A straight up? How about a combo platter?”
Skelter slammed his fist against the glass light enough so that it wouldn’t break but hard enough to get the ghoul’s attention. “How about some information instead?”
“Information?” The ghoul echoed. “Information costs…extra.” He stated with a smile.
“Listen, ghoul!” Damsel snapped. “I’m gonna spell this out nice and simple and if you answer I won’t tear your balls out through your throat! What the hell is going on with the Malks!?” She demanded snarling slightly.
The ghoul recoiled a step or two. “G-gee…I have no idea! They’re all crazy!”
“Tell us something we don’t know.” Skelter growled.
“Look, all I know is, Jeanette was going on about someone off-in’ someone called ‘Father Madness’ and the ‘others’ looking for his replacement,” He said quickly, clearly it had dawned on him that the glass that would protect him from humans would not do so against two vampires. Much less two easily angered vampires.
“What others?” Skelter asked lowly.
“I-I don’t know. She went all blabbery after that! Couldn’t understand a word she said.”
Damsel sighed in annoyance. “Not even their ghouls know anything! I knew this was a Camarilla waste of time! We should just drain him for making us come down here for nothing.”
“N-now hold on a minute!” The Ghoul said anxiously. “I remember Jeanette saying ‘Anti-something’ over and over before she ran off and locked herself in her room.”
“Anti-something?” Skelter echoed dully. “Anti what?”
“I-I don’t know. Anti…delirium? Anti…deluge? Anti something with a D!”
“Antediluvian?” Damsel guessed.
He pointed to her instantly. “Yes! That! She kept saying that and I haven’t see her since! Please don’t kill me…”
The two vampires turned away from the ghoul, dismissing him from their minds almost instantly. “I thought we were done with this Antediluvian shit after the kid blew up the sarcophagus.” Skelter muttered as they hurried up the stairs and towards where their car would be waiting for them.
“So did I,” Damsel admitted.
Skelter sighed in agitation, “Man, Nines is not going to like this.”
At the Last Round, Blair was sitting in his room in his lover’s lap. He had already mostly healed from what had amounted to a near rape. His lover however, was still not forgiving himself for loosing control like he had. “I could have killed you,” He muttered against Blair’s shoulder.
“Already dead.”
“You know what I mean,” the larger man snapped. “It took you hours to stop bleeding.” He added in a softer tone. “Even we can bleed out and you know it. You’ve killed enough vampires to know we aren’t invincible.”
Blair hummed a bit and wrapped his arms around his distraught mate, “This one is healed now.”
“Doesn’t change the fact that I practically raped you, Blair!”
Blair turned and brought his lover’s head up before kissing him. Slowly, he brought his lover’s usual confidence back through clever use of his tongue. He was pushed back against the floor as large hands wandered his body, lingering over places that had been bruised a short time earlier. “I’m so sorry.” His lover whispered against his lips.
“My personalities are not angry,” Blair replied.
“You should be,” The larger vampire grumbled. “You should throw me out and never let me touch you again after what I did.”
Blair laughed. “This one likes it when you touch us. We enjoy your love.”
The man stilled and looked up at Blair, their eyes meeting instantly. “I never…” He began in a whisper.
Blair’s smile faded as he cradled his lover’s face in his hands. “My minds tell me many things.” He said before kissing his lover softly on one cheek. “My thoughts,” Another kiss. “Your thoughts,” His lips danced over his lover’s face but always missed his lips. “You love us. And we love you. We have never been loved before. All of my personalities…relish it.”
“N-never been loved before?” His lover echoed as Blair’s lips feathered across his own in a teasing way.
Blair shook his head. “This one…has only felt yours.”
“That can’t be true, Blair. What about when you were alive?”
Blair laughed though his lover noticed it was far from a happy laugh. “This one…has never been sane. My minds were a burden and that was all,” Blair suddenly got to his feet and went to his side table that nobody ever realized he actually used. He rummaged around in the drawer for a moment before pulling out a crumpled up piece of paper. “This one’s death was not sad.”
He handed his lover the torn news article. He looked down and scanned the page several times before finally spotting Blair’s name in a tiny box in the corner of the page. It had his name, age, and date of death announcement as no body would ever be found. But that was it. No other information. Not a number to call or a place for a memorial or anything. He looked up at his insane lover and noticed that his mismatched eyes were sadder than he’d ever seen them, staring at the fire in the pot belly stove. “Blair?”
Blair turned to face his lover. The older kindred was shocked to see the shimmer of tears there and quickly wrapped the smaller male in his arms. “Blair, how did you meet your sire?”
Blair sighed heavily, “This one escaped his home. My selves wandered into a bar and her shattered minds were attracted to mine. She took us to her haven and when we awoke…we were changed.”
“Escaped your home?”
The younger vampire nodded. “This one has lived in a hospital for as long as he can remember. The bodies of my origin were rarely seen. Blair has always been a burden. They are happier with their children of virtue and sanity than they were with my shattered personalities.”
“Then they are fuckin’ stupid.” His lover spat instantly. “I’d do anything for you, Blair.”
Blair smiled widely; all trace of sorrow swept away instantly, “My minds know this to be written in stone.” Suddenly his face fell again but this time a vague look of horror crossed his face. “You mustn’t!” He shouted suddenly before jumping to his feet and running across the room and flinging himself out of the door.
“Blair!” His lover called as he hurried after him.
He ran down the stairs but the blue haired vampire was already gone. “Where did he go?” he asked a few ghouls and vampires hanging around the door. “Did you see?”
“No, Nines, he just bolted, sorry.” One of them answered.
“Shit.” He grumbled before storming upstairs to grab the rest of his clothes. He quickly pulled them on before storming back downstairs. He had to find his lover before he ended up caught in the sunrise or something worse. He recalled that incident Blair’d had in China Town with the ‘scientist’. He really didn’t want Blair to have to go through something like that again.
“It was probably Therese’s idea.” Damsel commented as she hurried down the set of stairs to where the ghoul was standing behind the window. He had circles under his eyes and a distinctly crazed look to him but not so much that someone would instantly point him out to the men in white coats.
