"You’re up early.”
Donut’s eyebrows raised as Grif walked into the kitchen. The orange soldier yawned and opened his mouth to speak when he noticed someone lurking in the living room.
“Hey, Grif.”
Grif glared back at Tucker. “Get out.”
“Aw, baby-“
“Get out, Tucker!” Grif yelled at him.
Donut watched Tucker shrug and slink away. Grif turned back to him, tears hidden by a mask of indifference. He sat at the table, head in hands.
He couldn’t do this anymore.
“Are you hungry?” Donut held out a steaming muffin.
“No, Donut.” Grif mumbled.
A concerned look crossed the private’s face as Grif sighed, standing and exiting the room. He mindlessly made his way through the base, wishing he could go back in time, could fix whatever went wrong with Tucker.
Could he? Could he find out where he messed up?
He wouldn’t know unless he tried, but… Grif looked out of the base to where he knew Tucker was walking back to his base. Did Tucker even care that he was kicked out of red base? Grif walked from the base, deciding to go after him.
Grif made his way through blue base. Tucker’s bedroom door was open, the blue soldier lounging on his bed, magazine in hand. He lowered it when he heard footsteps. A slight smirk curled his lips unattractively as Grif stepped into his room.
“Tucker?”
“Hey. Sit down, Grif.”
Grif sat on the very edge of the bed. Tucker sat up, crawling towards him. He nuzzled his face against Grif’s shoulder, warm breath forming goose bumps on the orange soldier’s flesh.
“Tucker, I need to ask-“
“I’m so sorry, baby.” He whispered.
Grif’s breath caught in his throat. Tucker lay across his lap, looking up at him. Arms reached up like a babe, wrapping around Grif’s neck.
“I missed you when you wouldn’t visit. Missed you so much…. When you told me to leave, and I realized what I did to YOU…” Tucker’s bottom lip trembled.
“Tucker…”
“Forgive me, babe?”
“Of course.” He couldn’t say no.
Tucker pulled Grif down for a kiss. Grif closed his eyes, missing the flash of triumph momentarily evident in Tucker’s eyes. When he pulled back, Tucker was smiling tenderly, hand smoothing Grif’s hair.
He sat up, sliding off of Grif. “Will you stay here… with me?”
“If you want me to.”
Tucker said softly. “I’m sorry.”
Grif whispered. “Why did you kick me out?”
“I don’t know what I was thinking, sweetheart. I… I…”
“Shh. It’s okay.”
Tucker took Grif in his arms, holder him tighter than in the past month. “Never again.”
Grif smiled. He pressed his face into Tucker’s shirt as the blue ran his hand down the back of Grif’s head repeatedly.
“I love you.” Tucker whispered.
“You too.” Grif mumbled.
Tucker looked over Grif’s head absently. The orange soldier sat content as Tucker stared at the wall.
