Out in the Open
As Roxas got into the passenger side of the car, he couldn't wipe the huge smile from his face. He knew it was uncharacteristic of him, but he just didn't care. He was the happiest he had ever been, and he felt like expressing it. He'd wanted to kiss Axel for a long time now, but feared not only how Axel would react, but what it would mean for himself. He'd imagined Axel losing it and kicking him out of the apartment. Then he would become depressed over the loss of his best friend, and basically his world would come to an end. So because of these thoughts, he'd kept his desires a secret. From both his friend and himself. He'd told himself it was just admiration he was feeling towards Axel. But today, when he'd been hiding, waiting to be found, he'd decided he would find out once and for all just how he really felt towards Axel. He would stop hiding, come out of the closet, and kiss his best friend. He chuckled at how much symbolism that moment had had. But that kiss had finally given him the answer he'd been looking for. Axel had thought he was only laughing because he was fooling around, but really, Roxas was laughing because he now knew for a fact that he was in love with his best friend, and he couldn't be happier. The only reason he hadn't gone the extra step and admitted it to his friend was because he feared what Axel might do. He didn't want to loose his best friend. He'd rather be his friend than not be with him at all. Just as Axel had said to him later on. It was funny how alike they really were when you got right down to it. It really made sense that they made each other so happy. Roxas really was happy. Truly happy.
Roxas let his arm dangle out the window as they drove down the highway. It had stopped raining almost the minute they'd conclusively decided they felt the same towards each other. Almost like the weather was being controlled by their very feelings. He looked over at Axel who was also smirking. Axel noticed the glance and looked back at Roxas with a widening smile.
"Now this is my kind of weather! Hot and sunny." Axel boasted, "What about you, Roxas?"
Roxas's content smirk crept into a wide grin, "Couldn't be happier. Fire red sports car, sun pouring down, and the hottest man alive all to myself."
Axel blushed at that last comment, "Well, for someone who had to think about it, you sure seem to have adjusted to this situation pretty quickly."
Roxas smiled, "Well, actually, I've always loved you Axel," Axel's eyes widened at the word love, "I was just so scared what would happen if I told you. And then when I found out you felt the same, I was worried I might be mistaken about my own feelings, and that if I admitted them, I'd just mess everything up. So I thought about it, and what I realized is that I'd never felt happier in my life, then when you said you liked me. So that cinched it for me. You were gonna be my man, and that was that."
Axel didn't know what to say for a moment. He'd always known Roxas was the type to stand his ground, but he never knew he'd be so forthright when it came to this kind of thing, "You sure got guts. Saying you love me, just out loud like that."
Roxas looked over at Axel puzzled, "What do you mean? You said you love me too."
"Well yeah, but I mean, just in our apartment. But you. You don't give a damn who hears. You just blurt it out loud for the world to hear."
Roxas smiled, "That's because I do love you Axel, and I want everyone to know. I hid my feelings from everyone, and myself, for too long. Besides, now that I know you feel the same, there's no way I'm letting a little thing like fear win. I'm sorry Axel, but if you didn't want everyone to know, then you should have picked a shyer boyfriend."
Axel chuckled, "No, you're right. Everyone has the right to love who they want and no one has the right to stop them. And besides, there's no one else I would have picked. I mean, honestly, I didn't even pick you. It just...was. I just loved you, and there was no decision about it."
Roxas chuckled back, "You're starting to sound like a woman."
"Aw, that's harsh. Here I am pouring my soul out to you and you gotta make fun of me," Axel pulled into the parking lot and turned the car off.
Roxas grinned, "I'm not making fun of you, just saying you sound a bit sappy. But I appreciate everything you just said. It means a lot, and well, I love you too Axel. And I know what you mean. I didn't pick you either," Roxas closed his eyes and smiled at Axel.
"Well when it comes to you, I just can't help being sappy. You're just too cute!" Axel yelled out before pouncing on Roxas and seizing his lips with his own.
Roxas didn't resist, but instead parted his lips, letting Axel's tongue slip into his mouth. Both their minds went blank as they indulged in each other's taste. Roxas had never been so happy in his life. He flinched a little as Axel's hand found it's way up under his shirt, rubbing all over his chest. It felt incredibly good. He'd imagined several times over just what was taking place at this moment. He'd never imagined, however, that today would end up like this. He didn't know what would become of them in the future, but he figured that if Axel had had the same feelings, for just as long, then this probably wasn't some crush. But Roxas didn't want to think about the future right now. Or about anything for that matter. He was content to just wallow in the bliss of the moment. To feel Axel's tongue intertwined with his. To smell Axel's hair as bits of it swept pass his nose. To shudder a bit as Axel's hand surveyed every part of his chest. No, right now he didn't care about the future, only the now. And right now, things were good.
