Reunite once more

A/N: Wow! Two chapters written fully in one day, new record for me! I'm posting it because I really liked how I'm making Link out to be. As I had said in the previous chapter, the Ocarina of Time manga has Link taking care of Volvagia when he was young, so I decided to go with that idea because it was cute.

Chapter 3: Reunite once more

Once I had woken up, I was within the Temple of Light. Rararu had spoken to me about rising to my destiny as the Hero of Time. Honestly? I wasn't even listening to half of what he had told me. When I had taken a look at my body, a cold grin spread over my lips. Ganondorf said I was too weak? I wanted to see what he said when I finally brought him to his knees.

Being brought back to the Temple of Time made me realize that I would have to fulfill the rest of this duty of being a hero to the people. Of course I didn't have much time to reflect on the fact that I had been gone for seven years before I had heard a voice behind me. Quickly drawing my blade, I was ready to strike down whoever dared to be in the same room as myself. The tip of the Master Sword was just slightly catching on the cloth worn upon the face of the most beautiful young man I had ever seen. Crimson eyes kept staring back at me. Now I know I was supposed to listen to what he had to say, but all I had caught was that his name was Sheik; I stopped listening after that and continued to rake my eyes over his entire body.

Once he had finally gotten me to listen, I learned of having to go to the Forest Temple, where I would meet with an old childhood friend. Whoever built the Forest Temple had a sick and twisted sense of humour and I never want to be stuck in that hellish prison ever again. I had only gotten to rest for a moment when I reached the small art gallery in the very heart of the temple. Just before I tired to leave, I was gated in; trapped with no way out.

My eyes looked everywhere for an exit, but there was a deep rumble of laughter behind me. I turned slowly, meeting with Ganondorf's ore coloured eyes. In all truth, I was just about to leap into his arms, not wanting to let him escape me this time. When he laughed a second time, I froze, Ganondorf's face was being ripped away to bring forth the demonic skull underneath. A phantom; it began hiding within the paintings, trying to catch me off guard. I was able to catch the horse charging at me every time, until the horse had flung its' rider from the saddle. The phantom continued to mock me with its' laughter, angering me even more. No matter how much I wanted Ganondorf, he didn't have the guts to face me himself.

The phantom had flung a ball of energy at me, but I sent it spiraling back at it. The magic paralyzed the creature, bringing it to the floor. I pounced on the phantom, anger fueling me. Thankfully no one was there to watch proceed to bash the skull of the phantom into the floor. It wasn't Ganondorf and the Gerudo king was the one I wanted.

"GRAAH!!!" I slammed my fist and the pommel of the sacred blade one last time into Phantom Ganon's skull, shattering it into thousands of tiny pieces. The magic within the room seemed to drag the phantom's corpse into the air, sealing it away. I could hear Ganondorf's voice, but I didn't care about what he said. "Ganondorf! Come out here and face me!" All I got in return was silence as I sunk down to the floor and was soon transported to the Chamber of Sages.

Saria was a slight comfort, but she wasn't what I needed at that moment. Even riding Epona through the fields of Hyrule wasn't helping as my jumbled thoughts raced through my head. I had wanted Ganondorf for years, but not to actually fight him. Then after meeting the man named Sheik, I really believed myself to be in love. The next temple had to be dealt with, the Fire Temple. Thinking back, I had remembered that I had left Volvagia alone on Death Mountain before leaving to collect the final Spiritual Stone. Spurring Epona onwards towards Kakriko, I had hoped the my dragon was okay.

"Volvagia!" I was screaming out as the dragon circled above me. In the seven years I had been gone, Ganondorf had used his magic to enlarge Volvagia to the size of a full grown adult dragon. He had done something to make my dragon forget me and the small amount of time we had spent together. The Megaton Hammer had been knocked away from me and Volvagia had already done a number upon my bones and skin. I wasn't about to abandon him again, and there was no way I was going to kill him.

Volvagia had let out a loud roar before swooping down towards me. I had held my ground, even as his jaws encased my right arm, shield and all. Blood was trickling down my right side; I wasn't about to give up and let him go. "Volvagia! Remember me! I know you know who I am!" The tears were in my eyes, leaving on the brink of crying. I stared hard into his green eyes, seeing that spark of that he knew who I was. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry I had abandoned you and I'm sorry that you felt alone for so long! I didn't want to abandon you!" It was no use to hold back as I cried; every muscle in my body was quivering, ready to give up and let him bite down upon me. "Please Volvagia, if there's any part of that little dragon that I had saved from the peddler and treated as a friend; you would stop trying to kill me!"

Maybe it was the fact that he truly remembered me, or maybe it was the fact that I was no longer an enjoyable toy, but he released his hold on me. Volvagia had slithered around me, allowing me to rest against his massive head. "Thank you old friend..." I smiled weakly, kissing him between the eyes before collapsing to the ground beside him.

A/N: I can't have Link kill Volvagia because I need the dragon later on in the story, but it's a sweet moment for Link and Volvagia. I actually like writing the interactions between the two of them. Well Read and Review! I'll be back in hopefully the next few days with a new chapter or two!
