3: The Shambler
Alice and Jill moved at the same moment, both of them dropping to the ground to avoid the laserbeam. It passed right over them. Both women were on their feet again in an instant, ready for whatever was coming next.
Another laserbeam activated at the end of the hallway, this one darting up and down in no recognizable pattern. It started racing toward them.
“Alice?” Jill said.
Alice was looking intently at one glass wall of the hallway, seemingly not noticing the laserbeam.
“Alice?!” Jill screamed.
There was a wrenching, grinding sound and the wall that Alice was looking at shattered inward, its electric innards crumbling. The laserbeam instantly evaporated. The damage that Alice’s mind was inflicting continued past the glass wall in a twisting line of chaos and the far metal door buckled, ripped off its hinges and fell to the ground.
Then the chaos stopped and Alice dropped to her knees, exhausted. Blood was running from her nose, her eyes, her ears. Jill was at her side at once, cradling her.
“Alice?” she asked. “Are you all right?”
Alice seemed to stir. She opened her eyes, nodded. She tried to stand but Jill had to help her, one hand on her waist, one on a shoulder. Alice wavered, noticed the blood on her face. She wiped it away as best she could, steadied herself.
“Can you walk?” Jill asked.
“Yes,” Alice said.
She seemed as if she were willing herself to stand up and, if so, she succeeded, joining Jill as she headed towards the broken door at the end of the hallway.
“You’re sure you’ll be all right?” Jill asked. She was truly worried about Alice. There was some vague, deep part of her that now considered Alice “hers” and wanted to make sure that she was all right.
“Yes, I’m fine,” Alice said.
The two women exited the hallway, looked around. The room they had entered was, like most of the facility so far, illuminated by harsh fluorescent light. The ground was covered in dead bodies. They had once been zombies, Alice and Jill could tell, but now they had been killed, all of their skulls ripped open, brains gone.
Jill and Alice took one look at the mutilated corpses scattered all over the room and laughed. They laughed loud and hard, grasping one another.
“Oh,” Alice said between laughs, “it’s horrible. Absolutely horrible.”
“I know,” Jill said, trying not to laugh.
“And the…atmosphere,” Alice said. “It’s stronger here. More potent.”
“Yeah,” Jill said.
“We have to fight it,” Alice said.
She had unconsciously begun to touch Jill, her hand sliding up and down the other woman’s side. The two women were so close to each other now.
“That’s not fighting it, Alice,” Jill said.
“I know,” Alice said. “I’m trying…and I’m losing.”
“Try harder,” Jill said.
She kissed Alice, her hands exploring Alice’s body.
“Maybe you should try harder,” Alice said.
Jill pushed Alice up against a glass wall which looked into what had once been a lab. The two women started kissing again, Alice’s head pressed up against the glass wall. When the zombie slammed into the glass from the other side, they both jumped.
The zombie was right next to them on the other side of the glass, her face pressed up against it, trying in vain to bite them. Once they had recovered from the scare, Alice and Jill began to laugh again. They both regarded the zombie.
It was obvious that, when she was alive, she had worked in the lab here in the Hive: her lab coat hung off her body, torn and tattered. The tears in her clothes revealed her big, luscious body, her breasts hanging out, her skirt gone completely, a small thong that had once been stylish barely covering her nether regions.
Alice looked over her shoulder at the zombie, who was thrusting her body up against the unbreakable glass, then looked at Jill. She smiled, started kissing her lover once again.
“Oh, you’re bad, aren’t you?” Jill asked between kisses.
Alice didn’t answer with words but with her hands, grasping Jill’s breasts through her shirt. Having once again surrendered to their passions, fueled by the strange atmosphere, they were unaware of the massive, undulating presence watching them from a connecting hallway.
While the voluptuous zombie assaulted the plexiglass again and again – her big breasts pressing up against the glass – Jill and Alice kissed and made out. Alice grabbed hold of Jill’s waist and switched places with her, swinging the woman around and pressing her against the glass.
The zombie was trying to bite the back of Jill’s neck, her teeth clattering against the glass. Alice and Jill paid the zombie woman no mind or, if they did, it was helping, not hurting, their sex drives. Alice kissed down Jill’s body until she reached her hips then forced the woman to turn around.
Jill was now facing the zombie woman, looking at her straight in the face. Alice lifted Jill’s short skirt, pulled down her black panties. She began by kissing and gnawing on the woman’s inner thighs. Slowly, she progressed to her sex.
Jill started to kiss the glass separating her and the zombie, her tongue snaking out. The zombie tried to bite the tongue, pushed her body up against the glass in what would have been a lewd position if she were alive.
Alice spent some time on Jill’s pussy before proceeding to her real goal: Jill’s pert, puckered little rectum. She kissed the asshole a few times before exploring it with her tongue, each completed circle she completed opening the hole a little wider.
Jill was going crazy, face pressed into the glass, her breath fogging it and obscuring the zombie on the other side for a moment. Her hips bucked, her ass cheeks slapping lightly against Alice’s face.
She imitated the zombie on the other side, in the lab, and began gnawing the glass separating them. The zombie began to slam her fist on the glass, trying, in vain, to break it.
Alice was deep inside Jill’s ass by now, her lips closed around the beautiful hole. She grasped hold of Jill’s ass cheeks with both hands, her fingers digging into the flesh and creating little red half-moons in the white skin.
“Ah!” Jill yelped.
She closed her eyes in intense pleasure, grit her teeth. A moment later, she had to bite her lower lip as a massive orgasm ripped through her body.
The zombie in the lab seemed to feel her pleasure and snarled. Then, some memory of her life as a human being seemed to resurface and she put a hand between her legs. This memory didn’t last long and the zombie woman was again beating at the glass, hungry for flesh.
The orgasm was too much for the Thing that was watching them from the connecting hallway and it shambled into the room, scattered dead zombies this way and that as it came.
Alice was the first one aware of its presence and she immediately stopped making love to Jill’s rectum and stood up, whirled around to face whatever it was. Jill knew that something was wrong a moment later and turned around as well. She gasped.
The Thing was almost all tentacles – long and snatching and of a dull green color – but Alice could see that, no matter what it was now, it had once been a human being. The tentacles issued from a definite, but obscured, human shape.
The Thing stood still for a moment, simply looking at them. It was if the creature was so moved by their passionate love-making that it wanted to study them, see what made them feel so good.
This passed after a moment and the Thing opened its once-human mouth and issued forth a loud, inhuman scream. Then it came for them.
“Run!” Alice said.
She bolted, looking for a way out. Jill struggled with the panties around her knees for a moment then simply tore them in half, threw them aside. She joined Alice, who was looking at a keypad next to a door that led into the lab where the horny zombie was.
“Override code,” Alice was saying. “What’s the override code?”
“What?” Jill asked.
“I know an override code that should work on most Umbrella facility doors,” Alice said. “What the hell is it?!”
“Better hurry!” Jill said.
She looked over her shoulder. The Thing – the Shambler, as Jill was starting to think of it – was moving towards them. The human form at the center of the mass of tentacles stood inert, straight as a board, while the tentacles slithered across the ground towards them.
Jill could see that the tentacles issued from almost everywhere on the human shape: along the arms, along the legs, all across the chest, stomach and back, the sides, the neck, the armpits, the sides of the head. The only place where there were no tentacles was the face, which had almost completely turned to the dull green color of the rest of the creature.
That face was haunting. Jill could tell that it was once a beautiful, strong face, female. There was a bullet hole in the center of the temple where now small green tentacles squirmed forth.
“Got it!” Alice said.
She punched the code into the keypad and the door to the lab opened. The two women ran inside.
The zombie woman lunged at them instantly and Jill raised her pistol to kill the woman. Alice, quick as a snake, was behind the zombie woman and put an arm around her neck.
“Wait!” she said.
Jill lowered her pistol.
“Get behind me,” Alice ordered.
Jill did so, aimed her pistol over Alice’s shoulder towards the open lab door. The Shambler came through the door a moment later and Alice let go of the zombie woman, kicked her towards the Thing.
The zombie snarled and the Shambler grabbed hold of her with numerous tentacles. Alice and Jill ran on, heading deeper into the Hive’s labs and hallways.
The Shambler’s many tentacles grasped at the zombie’s head and squeezed until the skull burst open. The tentacles then scooped out large chunks of brains and fed them, one by one, into the Shambler’s human mouth.
“What was that?!” Jill screamed.
They were running down a hallway. Every angle, every surface was metal, high-tech. The whole place felt like a giant, industrial elevator that only went down.
“I don’t know,” Alice answered. “I’ve never seen it before.”
“Do you think we stand a chance?” Jill asked.
At that moment they were passing another unbreakable glass wall so it was a surprise when the glass shattered and the Shambler creeped into the hallway ahead of them. Alice and Jill raised their pistols and began firing instantly. The tentacles took most of the hits but they seemed unfazed. A large twisted knot of them lashed out, hitting Alice square in the chest. She fell over, onto her back.
“Alice!” Jill said.
She made to help the other woman but Alice stopped her.
“No!” she said. “Run!”
Jill hesitated for a moment then took off, running the opposite way down the hallway. Alice tried to get up but the Shambler was right on top of her.
Alice started firing her pistol at every tentacle that came at her. She kept trying to go for a head shot but a tentacle would grab for her and she would have to defend herself.
When she was out of ammo, she looked up at the thing, finally got a good look at the thing’s once-human face.
“Oh, my God,” she said. “Rain.”
The Thing that had once been her friend, Rain, descended on Alice.
