Chapter Three

Nienna woke up early the next day. The sound of a small bird by her bedside window was her alarm. It was a beautiful sound, not too soft, nor was it quite that loud. It seemed to carry a tune of its own. However, Nienna wasn't in the mood for its song. She sat up in her modest bed and looked around. She looked confused at first. The plain wooden dresser and the small table and chairs weren't hers. The soft blankets she was curled up under were though. Then it hit her like the Deeprun Tram. She was in Stormwind. The dirty city of the humans.

“Shut up you wretched creature!” She growled at the bird and threw a spell at it. She really didn't mean to kill it, but just to scare it off. Her face went to annoyed to shock and horror. She immediately ran to the window, looking for the small birds fallen body. It was still on the tree, within arms reach of the draenei. She cautiously reached out of her window and scooped up the dead body. This poor creature had done nothing to deserve this. Nienna let out a sad sigh as she went and sat on her bed, still holding the bird. It was a small bird. A little on the plump side with a fawn colored feathers. The tips of each wing was painted white.

Nienna took a deep breath before she placed one hand under the bird and the other one above it. Slowly she moved her lips reciting a small prayer. Her hand glowed with a pure white light that formed in her hand. She was completely still on the bed, concentrating all of her energy on this animal. Her blue eyes fluttered close and her face looked peaceful. Within moments of the prayer ending, she opened her hands up. The small bird peeked his tiny head through her fingers, looking up into her eyes. She looked at the bird and smiled softly. It danced around in her hands before taking flight and going through the window, back to its branch, singing its song.

Nienna no longer took heed of the bird. She let him sing his merry tune as she changed to go meet with her mentor's friend. The note said she was to meet him in the Cathedral District. Last night she had studied the map, and knew where to go. She slipped her silken robe over her head and onto her lithe body. She was no skinny twig, and had all the curves most women would kill for. She brushed her white hair over the side. Carefully watching her precious horns, she arranged a small decoration of clips with small white flowers in her hair to help keep it up. Her tendrils floated down her neck and rested peacefully on her collarbone.

Placing her light sash across her waist, with her many many side pouches. Looking in the mirror, one last time, she nodded to her confidently and grabbed her staff before walking out. She shut and locked the door, placing the key right next to her letter of transfer. She passed the young inn keeper without so much as a hello, and right onto the cobbled streets on Stormwind.

She made a brisk pace towards the Holy District. Never in her life had she seen such a variety of people. Dwarves, Gnomes, even some Night Elves and Goblins were here, but she paid them no mind. She walked and walked, past the small bridge over the channel and over to the walled up Cathedral.

“Please miss. Spare some money for me.” An older man walked up to her. He seemed in pain and walked with a hobble. “I got no family, and no home.” Nienna contemplated leaving the beggar where he stood. He was a filthy mess, his clothes were dirty and full of holes and he smelled horrible.

“Here, take a few copper.” She said and pulled out some from her side pouch. Every second she kept reminding herself that she was a holy priestess.

“Thank you so much.” He said and hobbled away towards a young human paladin. Nienna's eyes grew big when she saw him. He was easily the handsomest human she had ever seen. He had light brown hair that was tied into a small ponytail. His face was flawless, his goatee was nicely trimmed, and his eyes. Good gods it had to be his eyes that sent shivers down her spine. He caught her staring at him, and turned those sharp green eyes towards her. She was rooted to the spot. He let out a small chuckle to himself and walked over to her.

“Good day miss.” He said and grabbed her free hand. Bowing his head ever so slightly, he left a small kiss on her palm. “Might I ask, what is a young draenei like yourself doing in your humble city?”

Nienna just stared at him with a blank look for a moment until the question registered in her mind. “I am, on my way, to see a friend.” She said with a smile upon her lips.

“May I ask for your name?” He asked with a smirk. Slowly in his mind, he was undressing her, thinking on how she would feel underneath him. He had never slept with a draenei and she was pretty cute for an alien. He began to wonder what noises she would make. Cries of pleasure, moans of ecstasy, or possible he could have a little fun with her.

“Nienna.” She said, completely oblivious to his lecherous stare. Maybe he would tie her to the bed, he still had the leather bonds from the night before. That reminded him that he had a night elf still trapped in his room, but that didn't bother him. Breaking this draenei would be more fun then that virgin night elf last night. Oh how she screamed. His smile grew wider as he thought of it.

“Well Miss. Nienna. I am Lord Darvis. Paladin of our holy order. I hope we meet again.” He said and grabbed her hand again, kissing it, before walking off. Nienna shook her head at the strange encounter she had just had. Maybe Stormwind wasn't so bad after all.

Slowly she climbed up the stairs and quietly made her way to a small side room off of the chapel. Inside the room was an older draenei talking to a priestess. Nienna quietly took a seat on the bench outside the room to give them their privacy. She knew that the draenei she just saw was Amonon, but she didn't know the human.

“Ah Nienna!” The older draenei said softly, in his deep voice, as he walked the human out of the small chamber. “I am so glad you could make it. Come in! Come in! We may talk inside this room.” He said ushering her into the room, shutting the door behind them.

“Now I know you must have many questions. Please, ask away. I want to help you in this journey, as you will greatly help me.” And took a seat behind a small desk. Nienna leaned her staff against part of the wall and then sat in the chair oppposite of him.

“I do Lord Amonon.” She began to say, but was then cut off.

“Please, No lords here. We are in the Cathedral of Stormwind. Please, just call me Amonon.”

“Okay, Amonon. I was wondering why did you need help here? Is Stormwind so horrible you need help just to get your studies done?” She said, now sitting on the edge of her seat. She wanted all her questions answered, and by god, she would get them answered.

“Well Nienna. You got it all wrong. Stormwind is a wonderful place. I quite enjoy it here. In fact, after my research is done. You will take it back to Almonen for I am staying here. That human you just met. She is to be my wife. We have grown to love each other, and I am staying for her.” He said quite happily. Nienna just stared at him in horror. He was going to give up his own kind to go live with some filthy human.

“That... That explains some.” She said softly, trying to get her composure back. She closed her eyes for a moment before looking at Amonon again.

“I know that doesn't seem right to you, but no one, no matter how strong they are, can stop love.” He spoke with a quiet passion that she could see burning in his eyes.

“I am sorry. That was rude of me to judge another being.” She said and bowed her slightly. “But if all I must do is take back your research, then why am I here for so long?”

“My research isn't done.” He stated simply, “I needed someone to do more in depth research for me, that I couldn't do. I can not leave my post for too long, so it is you who will be doing it for me. I already have your first assignment ready. It will start tomorrow morning, but I will brief you on it right now.” Nienna just nodded. Now down to the nitty gritty.

“Stormwind has had some troubles with their stockades. They have had frequent riots break out down there, but this one has been the worse. I have set up an elite team to go with you to find out, and possibly eliminate the cause of this riot. Now the stockades are located at the northeast corner of the magic district. You came from there a day ago. That is where your group shall meet before going in. I have the layout here.” He handed her over a small map. She quickly looked it over, nodding to herself every so often.

“Will I meet my companions before tomorrow?” She asked and place the map in a small pouch.

“Yes, in fact, I have summoned them and they should be here.” He stood up and walked towards the door. Nienna jumped up and began to smooth out her robes. She was now part of an adventuring group, and she never made a bad impression. “Please come in, come in.” She heard him say to some people out there. Three men and a woman walked into the room beside Amonon. Nienna let out a small gasp as she recognized one of them.

“These are your companions. This is Lord Darvis. He will be your paladin of the group. Now I know there is usually one healer in a group, but I think you will need the extra support. This is Thomas. He is your warrior.” He said moving to the next man in line. He had short red hair and load of freckles. However, he was easily the biggest one here, he even made Amonon look short for a draenei. Thomas nodded his head towards Nienna. “This is Garrick. Your rogue.” Garrick had short black hair, and a smile that Nienna found distasteful. He had a bigger build, but came no where close to Thomas. “And lastly, this is Lyndsey. She is a warlock in training.”

When Nienna looked at the shorter woman, she got nothing but a death glare. Nienna returned it with one of her own. Lyndsey had long wavy blond hair. She had a small build, and Nienna thought she could literally take the girl and break her over her knee. She didn't know why this human bitch already had a problem with her, but she knew this would be trouble.

“Everyone, this in Nienna. She will be your priestess. Now please get more familiar with each other. Nienna is new to Stormwind and I would love for you to show her around.” Amonon said with a smile, then ushered them all out of the door before Nienna could protest.
