Unravelling Mystery

She looked up to a mirror, holding a new, pink dress and giggling. "Oh, I have to try it on!" Amy Rose squeeked out, followed by more school girl-like giggles. All day today, it was around 2 PM or so as of now, Amy had decided to just browse around the mall, looking at jewlry, flowers and such, wanting to get something for Sonic, or something to impress Sonic with. Quickly, she scrambled over to the dressing room. She rushed in, closed the door behind herself and turned around to see a shocked look on a fox who had already been in here, but whom had accidentally forgot to lock the door. Shrieking, the both of them, Amy dropped her dress, turned to go out the door.

"Sorrysorrysorrysorry!" was all she kept sputtering out, but before she opened the door to leave, she turned around to pick up the dress.

Completly againts her will and simply by accident, she couldn't help but look more observantly at the fox in the room as Amy got on her knees to get the fallen dress. She wore lipstick, bright red, some light face powder on her cheeks and was wearing a cute rosey-red dress, but couldn't get the zipper on the back closed. She had two tails and... wait, two tails? She?

"T-... Tails?!" was all the surprised Amy could whisper, her eyes wide.

Tails had said nothing the entire time and had been in way too much embarrassment and shock to have even been able to command his body to look away, or hide his face. His eyes did look teary, though, he cried a little since Amy had stumbled in.

"I... I... I..." Tails stuttered, unable to explain himself.

Unexpectedly, to everyone's surprise, Amy jumped up with a happy squeel and ran up to Tails, hugging him tightly. This surprised the kid fox even more than he was before, but atleast he didn't get a negative feeling from it anymore. Not sure what else to do, he decided to just hug back softly.

"You look soooooooooo cuuuuuuute~! Oh my God!" Amy giggled and broke the hug, looking over him. Without even asking, she zipped up Tails' dress, adjusted it a bit for him and then motioned her hands for him to stand, "Come on, come on! Look at yourself, you look great in that!"

Slowly and shyly, at a total loss of words in this situation, he stood up to the mirror and observed himself, doing a simple, short twirl to get a better view of his back and sides in a quick glance in the mirror. Possibly one of the most embarrassing situations possible. Not just to be caught crossdressing, but to be caught by Amy Rose...

"Aren't you, uhm..." Tails shyly spoke, his voice low and somehow fragile. "Aren't you even curious about why I'm, uhm, dressing like this?"

"Well, it is kind of weird," Amy admitted, putting a finger to her lips, looking over Tails. Quickly, however, she got her smile back and put her hands on her hips. "But, I don't care! You look cute and I finally have someone else to go shopping with, oh, share dressed with, oh, tea parties! It'd be great! Especially since your Sonic's best friend, so you can help me pick out things for him!"

"Yeah..." the fox trailed off, his eyes showing signs of some deep thought, though Amy was too ignorant and innocent to know body language. 'Sonic,' he thought. Quickly, he went over the events of last night with him, which happened because of the camping trip with him and Shadow, which brought back even more painful memories. He shook it off.

"Come on, here! I'll buy you that dress and you can walk out of the store with it still on!" Amy offered, grabbing the fox's hand and dragging him out of the dressing room before he could protest, not exactly wanting to be seen with... 'this' on in public.

"H-hey!" and out the door he goes.

A heavy sigh and soft footsteps echoed as Shadow climbed up the stairs, heading towards his apartment. Nothing but the usual going on, training his speed, trying to get peace and quiet in a busy and nosiy city. But, he has lately been wondering back on his camping trip, though he quickly kept shaking it off the moment he thought of it, though all it did was make the thought resurface more and more often each time. Unable to help himself, as he walked to his apartment, he looked to his right, over at Sonic and Tails'. But, something caught his eye. Their door was ajar, but he never saw it like that. Sonic and Tails were very good at keeping the door closed, even getting mad at people who left it open for too long.

Slowly, Shadow walked over to their apartment. He didn't bother knocking, or saying hello, since he knew neither Sonic or Tails could possibly be here if the door was partly open. Holding a fist clenched at his side, he used the other to quickly rush the door open, eyes darting around... but he saw nothing. No person inside, nothing seemed unusual about the bit of junk likely Sonic had left laying around, like newspapers, empty junk food bags, cans and video game boxes. Growling at himself for stuffing his nose where it doesn't belong, he was about to turn and leave, but he saw something bright ret on the coffee table. It was hard to see at first, blending well with all the other junk laying around, but it was the only thing on the table, as well as a white note. Walking up towards it, he now realize the red thing was... a pair of panties. Shuddering, he grabbed the note from under it and pulled it up, reading it without touching the garment.

'For my girl, because all I need in life is jazz and textiles.

Sonic'

Smirking, Shadow carelessly dropped the note back on to the table, not really caring that it will be noticed if it's not in the same position. Turning around, his facial expression turned to slight surprise to his usual blank coldness as he noticed Sonic standing in the doorway. How much he had seem him doing? The black hedgehog didn't know.

"You like those panties? I got them for you, faker!" Sonic joked, laughing at his own, then walking past Shadow and to the coffee table, arranging it back to its' original position, panties on top of the note.

Well, question answered. "Sorry, I don't fake my own gender, I'm all real," Shadow smirked, but then continued. "Unlike you, faker. I doubt you even have a real girlfriend."

Unexpectedly, Sonic suddenly turned around, looking a bit flustered, "What?! She's real! I swear!"

The sudden flash of surprise and anger from the blue hedgehog only egged Shadow on to grin and crossed his arms, "Oh? How long have you two been going out? What's she look like?"

"She-! Uh, she..." 'Caught you,' Shadow's grin spoke without words. Quickly struggling to gather words, "That's not any of your business, Shadow! What the hell are you doing in my apartment, anyways?!"

Calmly, "You left your door a little open. It practically invited me to come in all by itself." Without saying anything more and ignoring further ranting from the blue-quilled creature behind him, Shadow turned and left, closing the door behind him as he went and entered his own abode.

Sighing, Shadow sat down on his black couch, almost blending in on it. In fact, a lot of things were black. The carpet, wall paint, bed sheets. Only things that weren't was the kitchen and bathroom, all mostly white, for hygene purposes. Easier to clean if dirty crap shows up more on white, naturally.

The black hedgehog put a hand on his chin, elbow on the couch arm as he leaned on it, thinking deeply, 'Sonic's acting strange and Tails wasn't home, or with him, like he often is and I even went by his personal workshop in town on the way home, he's not there. Sonic being an idiot isn't my business, but most importantly, is Tails okay?' He began to regret the camping trip in all this deep thought. Perhaps he should have let the fox kid down easier, or simply not have gone in the first place.

A loud clang was heard as Amy Rose opened uper her stove, pulling out the pecan pie she had made with the help of Tails. After having bought Tails' dress and Amy had done some additional minor shopping, they had left and Tails asked if he could go with Amy. When they arrived, the pink hedgehog wanted to show the fox kid a new thing or two about cooking. Mostly, Tails physically did most of the mixing work and checking the oven to see if it was being cooked properly, while following Amy's advice, while she also gathered the ingredients.

Slowly, she cut out a slice and set it on a small plate, laying it on the dinner table with a spoon set aside.

"Well! Eat it, tell me how it is! You made it, Tails!" Amy smile excitedly and she even almost bounced up and down a few times, watching with anticipation to see if the fox liked what he made.

"Well... okay," Tails agreed, still with a hint of shyness he seemed to almost always have today. He picked up the spoon and ate a small piece, taking a few seconds for the taste to really set it. It was sweet, almost candy-like, but not quite just there. Delicious, but something that could give a really kick ass stomach ache if you ate too much. The fox smiled, surprised he even had the ability to make something like this himself... with Amy's help, of course. He quickly took another bite.

Amy actually did bounce this time, "You like it! Great, I knew you could cook just as good as me!"

Half-way finishing the slice and calling it good, he turned and looked at the pink hedgehog, smiling, "Yeah, I'm surprised I actually made something like this."

"Oh, it's nothing hard," she assured.

"So, is this what it's like being a girl?" Tails asked, but he was asking mostly himself and not Amy, not even looking at her directly.

"Huh?" Amy asked, a little confused. She didn't seem to catch on the question wasn't meant for her to answer, so she did, "Well, uhm, I guess so. I don't really see Sonic cook much and I'm usually the one who gets asked to make food for holidays. Thanksgiving, birthdays..." She went on for awhile by herself.

"Uhm, Amy?" Tails interrupted with a quiet voice.

"Hmm?" she askwed sweetly, looking down, almost seemingly unaware she was even interrupted, or maybe she just doesn't mind.

"I, uh, I feel comfortable around you a lot more than others with all this girl stuff. A lot of the others would probably call me a fag," he laughed quietly to himself, the joke mostly being made to be some kind of reassurence to himself more than much else.

Amy giggled slightly at the comment, then turned around, speaking loudly enough to be heard while she walked away without turning her heard, "It's nothing, Tails. Anyways, I'm heading to the lady's room!"

For a moment, he just poked at his leftover food with the spoon in thought, but eventually he began to hear to hear some noise. Tails' ears perked up and he tried to focus in on the sound. Amy's voice, low-pitched from the bathroom, but constant. Finding it a bit odd, he walked up to the bathroom and knocked on the door.

"Hey, you alright in there, Amy?" Tails asked, genuine concern was found in his voice.

"...I'm fine!" the reply came with a hesitation. "I just need some time. Uhm, make yourself at home?"

Hesitantly, he turned and walked away, looking around at the pictures on the walls to pass time. Naturally, they were all pictures of Sonic, a trophy in the shape of Sonic on a small stand, some newspaper article clippings in picture frames. You know, normal, everyday stuff. But, suddenly, a loud and short moan came from the bathroom. Tails rushed to the bathroom door again, knocking on it. Behind the door, he could easily hear heavy panting. Any normal person would probably know what's going on already by now, but even though Tails wasn't the little kid he used to be, he still knew more about mechanics than he did about private... hobbies.

"Amy?! Are you alright?" Tails asked worriedly, putting his ear to the door to hear better.

The two-tailed fox could have sworn he heard an annoyed groan, "I'm fine! I said before!"

Tails whimpered softly, his ears flattening on his head, tails curling around his legs. He didn't mean to upset her, but it didn't help much when he slumped on the door too much and it slipped open, the fox falling in to the bathroom on his chest. Quickly, before the fox looked up, Amy jumped in to her bath tub, only eyes peering above the horizon of the tub to look at the fox. Then, Tails felt something heavy, but soft, fall from standing on the kitchen sink and hit him on the head, rolling on the ground infront of his eyes. He identified it was a... oh man.

"I'm... I'm sorry!" the younger male quickly said, blushing as red as Knuckles, then quickly scampered up to his feet and running out the bathroom, intending to leave through the front door. He hated being in a place where he was embarrassed, he'd rather run.

"Wait!" Amy called out, reaching an arm over the tub to wave at him to stay, though he didn't notice. So, doing the first thing that came to her mind and not really thinking ahead, he lept out and grabbed Tails by the shoulders, but didn't turn him around to face him, just talking to him in his ear from his back.

"It's... it's okay, Tails," Amy sweetly comforted. "It was just an accident! I needed to get that door fixed for awhile. Hey! Since you know so much about mechanics, I'm sure repairing the door would be easy!" Changing the subject slightly would help, she thought.

Too embarrassed to turn around to look at the bound-to-be-naked Amy, the fox simply spoke with his back still facing her, "Amy, I, can we talk?"

"Uhm, okay! About what? Is it about Sonic?!" she excitedly asked, as if she forgot the whole situation she was physically in at the moment. Actually, she did forget.

"Actually, yeah. Yeah, it is," Tails answered in disappointment.

Amy wasn't the brightest in the world, but she caught Tails' apparent sadness, "Oh? Uhm, okay. Let's sit down, then tell me about it."

Nodding, they both sat down on the couch, then Tails turned to Amy and began to speak. Clearing his throat, "Well, see, he- agh! Amy!" The fox quickly covered up his eyes with his tails, blushing more. Amy looked up to herself and whispered to herself some obscenity, then grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself.

"Oh my God, Tails, I'm sorry sorry," she apologized. "I didn't realize I was still-"

"It's fine, it's fine, just forget it!" he interrupted, rather just wanting to forget it. Continuing, he lowered his tails, but still didn't make eye contact with her this time, instead looking at his feet as he rocked them softly, "Well, Sonic, he... he makes me confused about myself, a lot."

"Confused?" Amy asked, worried about what it could mean.

"Yeah. I mean, come on!" he insisted. "There's a reason I'm dressed like this, there's a reason I have make-up on, why I liked cooking and shopping with you."

Careful to ask, "You think you're gay then?"

"No!" he shouted suddenly, but then thought about it, twiddling his fingers. "Well, maybe. I don't know. I went on a camping trip with Shadow, but Sonic thought it was something else. I really enjoyed it, though Shadow didn't seem to like me, but that's not the point."

Amy scooted over closer, hugging the little kid with one arm, the other holding up the towel, "What's the point?"

"Amy, he, he calls me his little girl when we're alone together, he does it all the time," Tails weakly told. "I know I'm a guy, but he's just said it so much and he even has..." He decided to interrupt himself, "No, I shouldn't say that."

Cocking her head, she wondered what he was about to say, "Say what?"

Ignoring the question, Tails hugged the pink girl, crying in to the towel, "Amy, I'm just really, really confused and hurt about myself. I just want to learn more." He sounded a bit desperate.

She was surprised at first, but she decided to keep the hug she had before on Tails, just hugging tighter now, "It's okay, Tails, it's okay. This really doesn't sound like the Sonic I love, but I believe you."

Smiling, he broke the hug, "Thanks, Amy."

Amy nodded, smiling back, but was replaced with a frown quickly. "He hurt you, huh?"

The kid fox nodded, then wanted to change the subject, "So."

"So?" she asked, smiling her usual overly-excited happy smile now.

There was a sudden knock on the door, which made Amy eep. She did a hand motion to imply she wanted Tails to open the door and went back to the bathroom to dress. Nodding, he got up and opened the door slightly looking through the crack. Standing infront of the door, he saw Shadow staring right back at those fox eyes, instantly knowing who it was, a look of strange curiosity on his face, both of why he was there and why he thought he could see make up.

"Sh-Shadow?! What're you doing here?" Tails asked nervously, wide eyes looking out the door crack, just enough to show everything above his muzzle.

"What the hell are you doing at Amy's?" he asked back, not really in an angry tone, ignoring Tails' own question. "This is the last place I'd expect to find you."

"I just thought I'd get out for a bit," 'Get out for a bit away from Sonic,' Tails finished in his mind. "Were you looking for me?"

"I was really worried about you," Shadow explained, though his voice made it seem like it was hard to admit kindness. "About the camping thing, I think I might have been too-"

Without even saying anything, Shadow found the door to Amy's house wide open and the kid fox hugging him tigfhtly. He hesitated to hug back, because he was a bit taken by the fact he could more clearly see the make up now and also how Tails was wearing a vibrant red dress. Still, though, he hugged back firmly, though looked down with a curious look at him, back to Sonic's note. Since the two-tailed boy was Sonic's best friend, maybe he'd know. "Tails?" the black hedgehog spoke firmly, getting attention from the kid, him looking up. He was embarrassed about being seen like this, but he didn't care as long as he got to hug Shadow. "Do you know anything about Sonic's girlfriend?"

"Huh?" Tails was instantly confused. "Sonic doesn't have one, atleast not one I know of. He's with me most of the time."

"Hmm, I see," Shadow seemed to be thinking to himself some more. "Thanks for telling me that. By the way, why are you dressed like that?"

"They're, uhm, it's all Amy's stuff!" he explained, laughing nervously. "This kind of stuff happens when you're over here for too long."

Smirking, he patted Tails on the head and turned around, starting to walk off. He got enough information from Tails, not to see if he could get anything out from Sonic. Something told Shadow the fact the blue faker apparently lied about having a girlfriend and the fact Tails was now dressing like a flaming fag with barbeque flavor might be connected. Maybe even Amy knew something, but it wasn't like he could ask while Tails was around. Turning his head slightly over his shoulder to his small friend, he spoke in a teasing and friendly tone, "Look normal the next time I see you and I'll think about kissing you."

All Tails could do was chuckle at that and give a wave as he watched Shadow start to run off.
