Chapter 3: Footsteps Along The Beach

Chapter 3: Footsteps Along The Beach

The clouds raced by as the silence grew. The two boys continued to sit there and stare at each other. They blinked at the same moments and carried the same breathing pattern. A nearby cricket startled them and their eyes broke apart.

Riku shock his head, “What was that about?”

“Don’t know.” replied Sora. “That was just so weird.”

Riku picked up the paopu fruit and stood up. He reached out his other hand to Sora, to get him to stand up. Sora took his hand and got on his feet. A smirk then showed up on Riku’s face. Thoughts began to race through his mind. He started to think of things he wanted to say to Sora, like, “Wanna share the paopu with me?” An image flashed in his head of him reaching the paopu out towards Sora. The two of them were getting closer and closer towards each other. Sora had closed his eyes and opened his mouth. Riku held the fruit between them and followed Sora’s actions. Soon they were so close they could feel each others’ breath. They were about to take a bite out of the sweet paopu, when Riku snapped out of his fantasy. When his thoughts began to gather back to reality, he found Sora yelling out his name from down on the beach.

“Come on, Riku. Let’s go around the shore again. The moonlight looks too pretty to be ignored.”

Riku blinked a couple times then placed the paopu onto the trunk of the tree. He then ran to catch up to Sora. He looked up at the stars and sighed. Once he caught up to Sora, he slowed down to match his pace. They continued walking side-by-side but remained silent.

In the distance, seagulls could be heard as the clouds slowly moved above, sometimes blocking out the moonlight. Sora looked back behind them and looked at their footsteps. Riku’s were bigger than his but were very close to his own. He didn’t realize they were walking so close to each other. He turned his gaze from the sand, to the boy beside him. He smiled as he stared into his aqua eyes. They shone in the moonlight as well as his hair. Sora was having a hard time holding in how he felt for Riku and he was afraid of letting it show. He blushed at his thoughts.

Riku was also thinking about similar things. He also wanted to let Sora know how he felt and he was thinking that it was just about the right moment. Each time he felt like saying something though, his hand would brush up against Sora’s and it would snap him out of his thoughts.

As they continued to walk, they started getting closer to the dock. They would often sit on it during their times on the island and watch their friends on the beach or in the water. Sora was getting pretty deep in thought, so deep that he started falling behind. Riku looked behind him and noticed the distance between them.

“You sure are slow, Sora.” He chuckled.

Sora pouted and stuck his tongue out. He then attempted to run to catch up. But instead, his foot ended up getting caught on a huge shell that was sticking out of the sand. He began to stumble and was in the middle of falling forward to the ground when Riku stopped him. He held on tightly to Sora as he helped him back up to his feet.

“Man, you really need to watch were you are going.” Riku laughed lightly. Then he began to blush as he realized how he was holding Sora. He had both his hands around his waist and he was staring straight down into his eyes.

“Oh, what do you know anyway?” Sora replied sarcastically. But then he went silent. He too had realized what was going on and began to blush as well at Riku’s contact. “Um...” was all he could get out.

Just then, Sora’s eyes opened up as wide as they could has he felt Riku’s embrace. Riku had pulled him in and wrapped his arms around his body. Riku laid his head on Sora’s shoulder as he tightened the hug. Sora didn’t know what to say or what to do. He was in shock but he was also enjoying the feel of Riku’s body against his. His thoughts were in a mess as he was trying to figure out why Riku had hugged him. But then his thoughts came together has he began to calm down. He soon nuzzled his head into Riku’s shoulder and relaxed as he took in Riku’s scent. Riku’s smell was similar to the ocean yet a bit more masculine. It was quite inviting to Sora and he took deep breaths as he stood there.

Riku on the other hand, was enjoying the scent of Sora’s hair. He always loved the brunet color and messiness Sora always kept it in. He lifted his hand up and ran it through Sora’s hair. He found it to be as soft as it looked. Once he ran it through Sora’s hair, he then moved his hand along Sora’s back. As he did so, he felt Sora’s grip tighten around him. He took it as a sign that Sora liked the touch. Sora then began to move his head up and down along Riku’s neck. A shiver crept up Riku’s back. His eyes then shot open and he let go of Sora and jumped back.

Sora felt the cool air hit him as Riku’s heat left him.

“Uh...I’m....I’m sorry....I...” Was all Riku could spit out. His face was glowing bright red as he looked down at the ground.

Sora’s face was downward as well, to hide the now huge blush. “It’s ok...uh....Let’s just find something to do.”

“Good idea.” Riku agreed.

They remembered that they were about to sit on the dock, but Sora had thought that maybe after what had happened, it might be a little awkward.

“I’ll be right back, Riku.”

“Where are you going?” Riku inquired.

“I’m just going to get something. I’ll be right back.” Sora replied as he ran into the trees and soon disappeared.

Riku just decided it was best to keep quite and to sit on the dock.

After a few minutes, Sora had returned, but not empty handed. He was carrying two long, thin sticks, two long pieces of vine, without any leaves attached, and something that was wrapped up in a huge, thick leaf,

“What’s all that for, Sora?” Said Riku, confused as hell.

“You’ll see.” He replied as he sat down beside Riku, on the dock.

He took one of the sticks and vines and tied the vine to one of the ends of the stick. He then tugged on it, to make sure it was tight enough. Then he opened the wrapped up leaf. Riku looked down at it and curled up his lip.

“Eww.” Riku said as he watched Sora pick up a worm from the pile.

“Well, it kind of works better if you have one of these.” He replied as he took the worm and tied the other end of the vine around it.

He then lowered it into the water and sat there quietly.

“Ah, so that’s what you had in mind. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have some fish tonight.” Riku stated as he got his own line ready.

Shortly after, Sora starting rearing back.

“I got something!” He grunted as he continued to pull back.

Sora tried to stand up, to get more strength. Riku noticed this and rushed up to help him. He got behind Sora and wrapped his arms around Sora, and helped him to his feet. He continued to hold on and pull backwards as they brought in the fish.

The fish was flopping around on the dock as the two boys stood their, trying to catch their breaths. They were hunched over forward, with Riku still hanging on. They were too out of breath to notice. Riku soon realized the position they were in and promptly raised his body up and let his grip go on Sora. His eyes were wide open and his red was even redder than it was earlier.

Sora soon started to giggle as he straighten himself up and turned around to face Riku.

“Man, that was a tough one.” He continued giggling but soon stopped as he looked at Riku’s face. He then cocked an eyebrow up. “Umm...what’s up, Riku? What’s with the look on your face?”

“Um..nothing.” He said as he turned around quickly. He then cleared his throat. “Um..let’s go take that fish over to the fire.”

Sora was still confused, but blew it off when he looked over at the now dead fish.

I know....I know.....I took long enough to finally update this. Well, unfortunately my life was too much for me to handle till now. I still can’t update a whole lot right now since I don’t have the internet at home right now, but thankfully I just got a flash drive so I can transfer this over to a computer when I get a chance to get to one that can access the internet.
Also, writers block can hit someone pretty hard sometimes lol.
