Chapter 3

Kade grumbled as he rowed away from the island, where he saw his sister and her companions standing on the beach. “Idiots...I hate them...” he snarled, rowing a little harder to vent his anger. He was so preoccupied with thinking of something to do for revenge, he didn’t realize he’d rowed straight into another boat. “Oh, I’m sorry!” he spun around. “I didn’t mean to bump into you. I--” he froze.

An older teen with navy blue hair and shimmering blue eyes smiled at him, his own boat stabilizing from the impact. “It’s okay, I was just going over to the island I’ve heard so much about.” Kade nodded at him and gulped when he outstretched his hand. “I’m Sam,” the boy said kindly and Kade shivered shyly, taking his hand. “I’m....I’m Kade,” he replied, feeling a sudden warmth shoot up his fingers, into his arm, and throughout his entire body.

“Hmmm, ‘Kade’. Nice name,” he said beaming, and the blonde nodded. “I like yours too. It’s really cute.” he then blushed madly and smacked himself in the face with both hands. I am such an idiot! Me and my big mouth... Kade thought embarrassedly, peeking from in between his fingers to look at Sam, who was smiling toward him, holding his oars.

“You’re gonna go to Serene Island? I’d recommend you didn’t,” Kade said somewhat bitterly, crossing his arms across his chest once more. “Huh? Why not? I’d like to see what’s over there,” he said quietly, looking at the beautiful isle that was just on the horizon. “Well right now, my sister and her idiotic groupies are over there doing their own thing. Just to advise you, if you don’t want to become my sister’s flunkie, you’d better avoid that place for now.”

Sam grinned and laughed. “Alright, alright. I guess we can just go back to Hope Island, then.” Kade nodded, wanting to get back to the neighborhoods on Hope Island anyway, back to his house.
