Innocent Sorrow. Part 3 of 5

Another day - another chapter. So, probably this is one of a few darkest thematic chapters I've made so far. Dear, remind this nerd to work on something more light-hearted after this marathon of uploading - -'''
Anyways,
As always, enjoy!~

An unknown amount of time has passed, somewhere deep down where it’s cold and damp. It seems one vampire is waking up.

He has no idea where he is, but he has a feeling that he is not dozing out in the hotel room or in the streets.

As the brunette’s vision is becoming clearer, he realizes he is in a cell. Or at least it looks so from his new surroundings, which are old, cracked, or rumpled brick walls, then a weak light installation hanging above his head like a slowly swinging corpse, a rusty bar door, which separates the vampire from the dungeon or an old prison corridor, and other cells.

Now, the steps that are getting closer and closer to him alert the vampire.

Of course, he tries to move his arms, but his struggle is in vain, and a burning pain around his wrists makes him groan.

It’s not an ordinary rope, that’s for sure. Otherwise, the brunette would have no issues tearing it and escaping this place.

When the nocturnal creature notices a familiar person behind the bars, his heart drops to his heels, and his temperature drops instantly.

Unfortunately for him, this person is no other than the same hunter with long blonde hair.

After unlocking the cell door, Kain enters and calmly yet proudly addresses the brunette. “Look who decided to wake up. You took quite of time, low-life.”

The blonde hunter watches him as sharp as a falcon spotting an innocent bird before instantly killing it.

Despite the crushing intimidation, Kyo replies in a slightly shaky yet indignant voice. “What the hell do you want from me? And why did you drag me there?”

After Kain closes his eyes and cracks a smile, he opens them and delightfully explains. “Even a weak creature like you can be useful to me. So, before finishing you off, I need your body, vampire.”

The vampire widens his eyes, and as he frowns, he grinds his teeth and growls. “Do you think that scum like you will get away easily? Untie and face me fair and square, you coward!”

Such a raw reaction from the nocturnal creature satisfies the blonde, and he comments with a sensible malice in his voice. “As lively as usual. Let’s see how long you can keep this attitude before you beg to be killed. Vampire, even as a low-rank monster, you have something that I need. So, I’ll be kind this time and let you pick where we should start.”

Now, Kain picks up a knife and pliers from his coat pockets. “Day by day, I’ll remove your body parts. Don’t worry, a degenerate and rotten creature like you can heal slowly your wounds or regenerate your limbs. Today, you can pick if you want your nails, ribs, fangs or eye-balls removed. So, which one?”

However, he receives no answers from Kyo, who only nervously stares at him.

Nevertheless, the hunter brings the pliers close to the vampire’s face and adds. “Do you want me to pick it for you then? How about we start with your disgusting fangs? So, open your mouth wide, or else I’ll shatter your teeth.”

And thus, the brunette’s slow and never-ending torture of being Kain’s prisoner begins.

As Kain has promised, after removing his picked organs, he patiently waits until Kyo regenerates and heals.

Unfortunately for Kyo, the blonde doesn’t get bored with keeping an eye on him.

That’s right, he would bring so-called food to keep his little toy alive.

But Kain doesn’t care about the quality or what creature’s blood Kyo gets to drink. So, it can vary from any dead animal or bird, but never human blood.

After all, when he tosses dark red liquid bags at Kyo like a farm animal, he sees all low-rank monsters and demons as nothing more than disgusting slugs.

Even when he gives food to his vampire, he adds insults or bitter comments like “pig’s blood for a pig” or anything that makes the brunette’s existence even more miserable than it already is.

However, it’s not enough to kill Kain’s boredom before he can further harvest Kyo’s organs.

Thus, this is how he comes up with an idea that brings a smile to his face.

From time to time, the blonde would bring people outside Kyo’s cell and treat him as a specimen from the freak show.

That’s right, before inviting the visitors, he would cover the brunette’s wounded face with a bag and present him to the people as if the brunette were the most degenerate and as an abomination.

Sometimes, the blonde hunter will also spray Kyo with a water hose while condemning his sinful existence, which only brings pain and sorrow to innocent people.

According to Kain, it’s only the weaklings’ fault for being born in this world, where they do not belong or fit.

No matter how hard these pathetic creatures try to pretend to be humans for nefarious purposes, they will be exterminated by the blonde hunter. A slug is a slug no matter how you look at it, and its only purpose is to crawl in the mud. Or so this is how he sees any non-human species.

The only reason he would let them breathe for a bit longer is to butcher them as farm animals and get valuable ingredients from their body parts.

As for his captured vampire after a few weeks, the blonde gets tired of Kyo and finds him useless.

When the brunette is barely clinging to life or resists, and his eyes become dull, Kain finally decides to get rid of Kyo.

After all, the vampire is just another pesky bug, which, after you cut its wings and legs, is worthless and deserves to die.

But for now, after wrapping the soaked rope in holy water around Kyo, he drags him out of his cell to the perfect place to dispose of him, where the vampire cannot die and suffer for eternity.

Some time has passed; it is a misty, moonless evening.

Finally, Kain reaches the coast of the lake. Fortunately for him, his rented motorboat is already tied to the shore.

Before setting foot on the boat, he calmly smiles at the concrete block left next to the boat.

Surely, when everything goes according to plan, it satisfies the hunter.

However, the only thing that he wishes right now is for Kyo to be more lively and actually resist. After all, it’s more amusing to finish a low-life when they make an effort and have the same attitude as freshly caught.

Nevertheless, the blonde hunter picks up the rope and attaches the block to the vampire’s feet, even if he knows well that these nocturnal creatures are vulnerable and useless under the water.

However, he still wants to make sure that not a single detail is overlooked. So, being prepared for the worst-case scenario wouldn’t hurt, right? Or so the hunter thinks.

Once the blonde finishes the current task, he lifts Kyo like a sack of potatoes into the boat, and upon revving the engine, he heads to the middle of the lake.

In the end, the blonde throws Kyo’s body into the water like a trash bag, and the vampire sinks into the water like an axe.

As the water splashes on the motorboat, Kain revs the engine and leaves this place.

Finally, that vampire will meet his doom alone in the never-ending darkness while regretting crossing the hunter. Or so the Kain wonders while happily humming.

When Kyo reaches the bottom of the lake, he remains conscious and aware of what is happening, but his body is too weak and paralyzed by the water.

He can hear and see all kinds of fish, from small to big ones, swimming around and living their lives while ignoring the landed impostor.

Eventually, the brunette loses track of time. However, does he really care anymore what awaits him?

He is left alone and trapped in the eternal darkness and coldness.

At times like this, Kyo wishes to be a human. At least then he could die.

Unfortunately, he is a vampire, a creature who is supposed to rule the night. But now, he is too weak and his body has become his prison.

Even so, Kyo is somehow relieved that all this time his instincts haven’t acted up, not even once. So, maybe he is abandoned.

If he could, he would cry now while smiling at his tragic ending. Unfortunately, his motionless body stays still, and his face shows no emotion.

However, he hears a strangely familiar voice that almost sounds like this and whispers in a soft tone in his head. “You poor thing… This is what happens when you hope that you can be treated as any human or act as one. It’s their world, and anyone who is different from them does not belong here, like you and me. However, you have probably understood that you made a terrible mistake. That’s why this time I’m giving you a second chance.”

After a brief pause, this voice chuckles in a deeper tone and adds. “What happened to you now? You’re doubting. You are asking who am I? What an idiot! I am not a god or a devil. But I watch your each move and step while I keep on waiting until you grow weak. Then I could take over your body.”

Now, the shadow figure appears behind the brunette’s back and takes his form while remaining transparent as a ghost.

Finally, his features become clear. This is a tanned brunette with nearly black hair, crimson eyes, and sharp vampire fangs. The dark creature of the night, wearing a black open gakuran with rolled-up sleeves, is named Kusanagi.

While the dark entity floats, he moves in front of Kyo and faces him.

When Kusanagi places his palm under Kyo’s jaw, he brushes his cheek and stares at him.

After the tanned brunette curves a delightful smile, he continues his sweet yet malicious speech while keeping his hands in his pants pockets. “Took you long enough to realize who I am~ But I cannot blame you…”

A moment later, Kusanagi softens his gaze and comforts Kyo. “Are you really sure you want to die like this? ‘Cos deep inside I can feel otherwise. You are afraid and full of regrets, aren’t you? You wish you had enough power. However, I can change that. It’s not too late. Once you reach the land, all you need to do is lend me your body until we regain enough strength. So, how about it? Do you want me to end your suffering? Or do you want to have another chance and start a new life?”

After patiently waiting for the brunette’s answer for a few moments, Kusanagi floats behind Kyo’s back and hugs him from behind.

When he rests his head on Kyo’s shoulder, Kusanagi grins like a Cheshire cat and speaks to him. “You have made the right choice. But don’t you forget about our deal when the right time comes.”

Thus, with these words, Kusanagi vanishes, leaving the brunette alone.

Was it just a hallucination before his death? The nocturnal creature wonders.

One thing is for sure, Kyo could sense that this dark entity could read his mind and feelings as if he were an open book.

But for now, Kyo wants to believe that his struggle will end soon, either by deeply hibernating or reaching the surface of the land.

Even if those were sweet nothings before his passing, the brunette wants to believe in that shadow figure.

Hell, he desperately wants to cling to the new promised life where he can start from the beginning.

Even if Kyo knows he may have made a pact with the devil, who tempted him, he doesn’t realize the cost of it, not even close to what he expects.

So, not sure whenever it was a good move, but from the very beginning, even before planning Kyo's backstory in mind, or even before these chapters in the inn, I wanted to see how it works out. Yeah, I know, it's such a controversy to keep like two souls inside one body, but that desire to add that inner conflict won in the end - -'

Besides, one of my favorite parts in Elfen Lied( Be it anime adaptation or original manga) were that one when the main protagonist Lucy have a weird dreams when she was a little about talking to another her, which wanted to convince Lucy to accept her diclonius nature and power, even if that was by the help of nightmares. So, that one scene really was something and to this day it's the most memorable one as well!

That's why after many years, I wanted to do something like that too, cos I personally felt like had to. So, that's why KUSANAGI is like that inner instinct/a vampiric side of Kyo, and tries to prove him about the bitter truth of this world and accept his true nature. At least, this is what 'Nagi hoping to accomplish. So, he is even ready to take over of Kyo's body when there is a perfect chance, because this darker brunette just wants to survive at any cost.

Dear, maybe I go waay to deep into this, but it just happens sometimes. So, not sure whenever I should leave such comments like this in a future whenever there are left some things, which wasn't mentioned in a chapter. That's why let me know about that.
Tomorrow I gonna leave another chapter.
So, for now,
As always - See you next time!~
