Chapter 20

Chapter XX
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

They were outside again, in one of the spires of the tower. It was better than being cooped up in the dungeon all of the time.

Besides, Zelda thought, looking up at the dreary sky. Once she had become accustomed to it, she could see an serene kind of beauty in the sky. The thunderstorms had ceased, for the moment, and the sky was dark and swirling, a vortex of a storm waiting to unleash its fury. This was a portrait of the world about to end, of darkness about to conquer the light, but there was good in that somewhere. People would be saying their last goodbyes, loving one another like they never had before, making the best of their remaining time.

And not all was lost, when she thought about it. This gothic setting was only temporary. No matter how strongly Ganon reveled in this memory, it was already fated for the Hero of Time to conquer the darkness. She could only hope that the hero she had found could do the same…

“Must I stay hidden forever?” She asked, turning her face from the sky to look at Ganondorf. “Is there any way out of this memory?”

He shrugged distractedly, his eyes still in the clouds.

“There’s not much else we can do,” he said. “All you can do is wait for your hero to defeat Zant and vanquish Ganon’s power. Then you’ll be free from this place.”

He finished his sentence with such disdain, and it prompted another question in Zelda’s mind.

“Well… what will happen to you?”

Another shrug.

“I’m not sure,” he said. “It’s nothing to concern yourself with. It doesn’t matter what happens to me.”

Silence for a moment. Then:

“Why do you always talk like that?” she said, irritation creeping into her voice. “You’re so self depreciating, saying you don’t matter. I don’t understand why you beat yourself up. What’s the matter with you?”

He held her gaze for a moment, his golden eyes piercing hers. She wondered if perhaps she had offended him.

“You wouldn’t understand,” he spat. “I deserve whatever happens to me. You have no idea what I’ve done.”

He looked away from her, turning his face back towards the sky. She felt sheepish for offending him. She had been brought up to be formal and polite in every situation, to never come off as anything but sweet and proper. It hadn’t prepared her for this, though. She had never had any sort of relationship beyond a formal one. She had never had a friend, and didn’t know how to act towards one.

The young Gerudo man started when he felt her hand touch his.

“I’m sorry,” she said, her eyes holding his. “You’re right; I don’t know you at all, and I don’t know why you’re so bitter. But I would if you told me?”

It came out as a question, and for a moment, it looked as though he might say something, might actually tell her. Then there was another crack of thunder, and they felt the first few drops of rain.

“We’d better get inside,” he said. She gave him a stern look, but he ignored it. He walked past her, towards the door back into the castle, leading the way. They had to keep close; it was easy to get separated in the tower. Ganondorf had passed through the door and was well inside before he realized he was alone.

“Zelda?” he said quietly, a sliver of panic creeping into his voice. He retraced his steps, stepping back outside onto the spire. Zelda was waiting for him, her arms crossed, her dress and hair becoming soaked with rain. He felt himself heating up with anger.

“What are you doing?!” he shouted over the thunder and rain. It was absolutely pouring now. “Do you want to be captured? Is that it? If you want me to keep you safe then you’re supposed to listen to me!”

“Why should I?!” she cried back. “If you don’t trust me, then why should I trust you? You could be Ganon himself, for all I know!”

“What the hell are you talking about?!” he cried almost at a loss for words. “How could you possibly think that?!”

“I don’t know what to think!” she said. “I’m in a strange place, being hunted by some giant animal thing! You’re the only other person here, and I know nothing about you! How can I trust you? Why won’t you just talk to me?!”

“That’s enough,” he said. He reached out and grabbed Zelda’s wrist. “Come on.”

“No!” she yelled, beating at him with her free arm as he pulled her along. “I’m not going anywhere with you!” She waved her fingers intricately, casting the incantation. Her hand began to glow: a simple defensive spell. His eyes caught it and he moved swiftly to stop her. The next thing Zelda knew, she was pressed up against the wall, her breath knocked away and her spell interrupted. Ganondorf was inches away from her; he looked absolutely furious.

“Don’t -” he started. His voice was trembling with rage. “Don’t use magic. He’ll sense it.”

“I’m sorry,” she breathed, barely audible.

Ganondorf just shook his head, releasing her. “I’m sorry,” he said. A moment of silence passed, both of them feeling too shameful to eye one another. Finally he broke the silence between them.

“It’s probably safest to just stay out here, now. We’ll wait until the storm passes.”

Zelda nodded. The two of them took a seat beneath an overhang, the rain coming down in sheets just before them. They sat there for a long time, watching the rain in silence. They were both soaked, and after a while, Zelda scooted closer to Ganondorf for warmth. She put her and on top of his once more.

“I… I don’t think I’ve thanked you for helping me,” she said. “So… thanks…”

No reply came for a while, long enough to make her feel stupid. Then, she felt his hand take hers, their fingers lacing together. Then he started to talk, telling her everything.

Midna sat in the grass by the door, as she did everyday. Saria had asked her time and time again to not be so introverted, that they wanted her around, but she knew better. She could only be in the way while they spent their remaining time together.

So she waited in the grove, passing each day in the hopes that Link wasn’t dead and would finally appear. She watched a ladybug on her hand, always twisting and shifting to keep the ladybug walking in a continuous cycle. She jolted when she heard the door, stones grating against one another.

She jumped upright, backing away from the doorway. Light appeared from the cracks in the stone as she watched. Then, the doors were thrown open, and through it was only more of the grove, as if the doorway had never led anywhere. He was standing under the arch of the doorway, looking a little unbalanced, but otherwise okay.

He caught her eyes, as he stood doubled over, and he smiled at her. After a moment, she smiled back.

“I’m impressed, hero,” the mage said. They were in the clearing. Epona was saddled and ready for departure, and all that was left was goodbyes. Midna was already straddled atop Epona, ready to be off. Saria stood beside Vaati, smiling but solemn, quiet. Link found it hard to look at her; somehow he felt at least partially responsible for her predicament.

“Thanks for all your help,” Link said. Vaati nodded.

“You’ve proven yourself quite capable. If Hyrule is in your hands, then I’m sure the darkness will be lifted.”

Link nodded, feeling more and more sure of himself after the Temple of Time.

“Ready to go, yet?” Midna quipped from behind them, already atop the horse. Vaati motioned toward her.

“May the Goddesses be with you, hero,” Saria said, surprising the both of them. “We’re all counting on you.”

Link nodded again, turning to leave them. Vaati and Saria watched them until they were no longer visible. The two didn’t look at each other, for a long time, just stood there. Vaati felt Saria’s grip tighten on his arm, and he forced himself to meet her gaze. She was smiling at him, despite teary eyes.

“I’d like to stay here forever,” she tried. Her voice broke in a nervous laugh. “I kind of thought I would actually, but…” she couldn’t finish for a moment. “You- you’ll be okay without me.”

But he wouldn’t. He knew in that moment that he couldn’t live without her. He saw memories of his life flashing through his mind: He saw Ezlo, his old teacher, his only friend. Vaati had lost him, callously turning his back on his own mentor. He saw Zelda, the one he had loved, all those years ago, his first love. He had let her go, too.

Now Saria was leaving him, the one person he cared for more so than himself or the fate of the world. She had cried, when they had found that she would be leaving. She had cried and he had held her. But now it was him. In the end, he was too weak to let her go, couldn’t stand to be without her.

“I- I won’t be okay without you,” he said, his voice wavering. “You could stay here with me. Please. There’s another way, I know there is. Don’t leave, Saria.”

She tip-toed up and kissed him. He could feel her tears on his cheeks. She hugged him, and her breath tickled his ear.

“You’re making this hard,” she said. “It’ll be okay. I’ll always love you.”

He held her as tight as he could, not wanting her to disappear. Finally, he said:

“I’ll always love you, too.”

But he felt a gust of strange wind, and when he opened his eyes, she was already gone.

Link led Epona by her reigns, stomping through the dewy knee high grass, looking straight ahead, eager to get out of the forest. They were near the end. He could tell when the grass got as high as it was. Through the trees, he could see the sun setting, it’s golden glow fading with each second.

His hands were tightened into balled fists as he trudged. He had been happy to see her for about five minutes. Already though, she was wearing on him. He had no idea how she got under his skin so well, but she always found the right button to push, which of course was only more irritating in itself.

“So,” she continued. He could hear the impish glee in her voice. “Did you meet any pretty girls wherever you were?”

Link had to physically hold back a cry of frustration as his thoughts turned back to Romani. Midna had hit the mark perfectly, as always. It was like she knew, somehow.

“What do you care?” He rebutted, trying his best to sound indifferent.

“Oh, that’s a yes,” she said gleefully. Even without looking back, he could practically see her, casually toying with her sunset hair just as she toyed with him, like a cat playing with a mouse. “What was her name? What happened? Did you fuck her?”

Finally he stopped, turning around to face her.

“Oh, what is your problem?!” he yelled. “Can’t you give me a moments rest from your attitude? I’ve been back for what? An hour? And you’re already at it?”

Midna smiled at him, a pretty smile, both lovely and infuriating. “Well, I haven’t seen you in days,” she said. “I have to make up for lost time.”

“Whatever, you little imp,” he said, looking for any insult to throw at her. “I can’t wait until we get out of this forest, and you’re back to normal. You won’t be so high and mighty then.”

“Well, actually, this is me normally,” she said, running her hands along her body indulgently. “I’m cursed, remember? And besides, you don’t want that. You know you think I’m pretty.”

“”I don’t understand how someone so pretty can be so ugly on the inside…”

“Oh, so you do think I’m pretty?” she seized the opportunity, much to his dismay. “Where do I rate with all your other girlfriends? I know I have quite a few to compete with. There’s the dead Zora, and the farm girl, not to mention whoever you might’ve fooled around with while you were gone. I don’t think we can include Princess Zelda quite yet, but I’m sure you’ll find a way to work her in to your busy schedule. You are the hero, after all.”

It was all too much; Link never could have fathomed someone so annoying. He had to find her off switch. He put his fingers to his lips and issued a short, practiced whistle. Promptly, Epona neighed and reared up on her back legs. Midna yelped as she tumbled off of the mare and into the long, wet grass.

Link laughed riotously as she appeared from the grass, her hair and robe-like garment soaked through. She shot him a look of pure venom, swiftly approaching him.

His laughs were cut short as he felt the back of her hand collide with his face. He eyed her angrily and reached out, pushing her with one hand. She yelped again and tumbled back into the wet grass. He smiled.

“Quit it, you ass!” she yelped as she got back up. She drew her arm to hit him again and he grabbed it, pulling her close to restrain her.

“Stop it!”

You stop it!”

“Jerk!”

“Brat!”

He grabbed her other hand before she could hit him. She glared defiantly at him. He glared back.

They leaned in simultaneously, their lips meeting fervently. Their lips and tongues tangled immediately both of them grabbing for the other’s hair as they tipped over into the grass, hiding them from the golden glow of the fading sun.

They rolled in the long grass, grabbing every inch of one another in site. They both felt the same electric rush as all the tension and fighting between them melted away, culminating in this moment, something neither of them would have imagined even a second earlier.

Midna reached for the end of Link’s tunic and heaved upward, forcing him to wiggle out of it before it tore. She grabbed his hat and tossed it aside. She audibly gasped at the sight of him shirtless. He hadn’t looked like that when he had left.

Link pawed around for the buttons to her clothes. He couldn’t quite figure it out, but the entire thing was soaked through, and he found it peeled right off of her. He looked over her naked body; she was perfect, toned and slim, her cerulean skin seeming to give off a soft glow in the sepia sunset.

Link leaned in to kiss her again, his hand roaming her front, tickling along her stomach and up to her breasts. He passed his thumb along the hard pebble of her nipple, making her sigh into his mouth. She clawed in return, reaching up and around for her hands to rove about his back.

“Just do it,” she demanded breathily into his ear, almost panting with want. “Skip the foreplay, just do it.”

Link nodded, reaching down to fumble with his breeches. Midna raised her legs up and helped push his pants down with her feet, subsequently wrapping her legs around his waist. She gasped as he pushed into her, reaching up to kiss him, biting his lip, fingers tangled in his hair. Midna’s eyes were half closed, heavy lidded, mirroring Link’s own. He worked up a slow, steady rhythm, his lips never leaving hers. This was what it had been all along, all of their quarrels and reconciles, their brief, spontaneous moments of caring; all of it had been leading them both to this moment, to something neither of them had known they had wanted.

“Link…” she breathed between his lips. He thrust deeper, in response, causing her to yelp in pleasure. He felt her lips curve upward in a smile. “Again,” she sighed. “More…”

He complied, pushing deeper and deeper into her, causing her to arch her back. He took the hand propping himself up over her and grabbed her ankle, pushing her leg down for a different angle.

“mmmmmaah-” she laid her head back down in the grass, moaning passionately and incoherently. She smiled, revealing her impish canine teeth, pointed sharp amongst the rows of normal ones. “Perfect…” she said.

Link continued, slowly working himself faster and faster. Midna responded lustily beneath him, reaching to scratch him and touch him, playing with his lips or his hair, her other hand kneading her own round breasts, eyes closed and mouth open in ecstasy.

She pulled him down to her by his hair, kissing him deeply.

“Sit up,” she ordered. “I wanna try this before you finish.”

Link pulled away from her, attempting to get to his feet. His breeches were still around his ankles, and he tripped and fell on his butt. Midna smiled, crawling towards him. She gently pushed him, so that he was laying down, staring at the golden sky. He tilted his head up to see her kneeling between his legs, her hands around his erection. Link felt a current of sensation run up his body as she lowered her mouth to the head of his member, her lips wrapped tightly around it, tongue swirling amazingly. His hands dug into the grass beside him, his back arching as he let out a groan he heard a wet popping sound and then her voice:

“Is it good?”

Link didn’t reply, only nodded. It was good, so good. Then the thought occurred to him that he should be doing something for her; it would be selfish for him to enjoy her ministrations with no return.

He sat up, taking a second to admire the view of her taking him into her mouth. She released him and sat up across from him. He leaned forward and grabbed her.

“Oh!” she giggled in surprise as he picked her up. He shifted her in his grip, laying back down with her atop him, her opening before him. Midna gasped lustily as she felt his tongue, working eagerly at her center. She leaned back down and continued with his erection, more zealously so while receiving pleasure of her own.

Midna groaned as the sensation of Link at her sex intensified, sending humming vibrations down his shaft. She felt a small orgasm ripple through her body, her muscles shaking as he continued licking through the duration of it.

Link felt his own peak approaching as Midna sucked and moaned on his member, on the verge of coming. She removed her lips right before he did, getting up and off of him. She pulled him up to sitting and kissed him hungrily. He responded anxiously, the two of them attacking each other. She fell back and pulled him atop her again.

“I want it again,” she said. “Do it…”

He pressed into her again, still kissing her. He felt his head slip in. It was different this time, tighter. Midna yelped as he pushed in further, and stopped to question what was going wrong. He realized with a jolt, and began to slowly retract. She grabbed his shoulders, holding him, stopping him.

“Don’t,” she said. “It feels good, don’t stop.”

He nodded, a bit hesitantly, and pushed all the way into the smaller hole. She winced, but pulled him in for a deeper kiss regardless. He began thrusting, his hand at the side of her face, her sunset eyes in his blue ones. Her back arched as his pace quickened, her breathing more ragged and deep. She pulled him in for another kiss as she felt him come, holding him there. He trembled as orgasm took him, barely able to hold himself up.

He fell to his side after it subsided. Midna rolled onto her side as well to face him. He leaned in and kissed her again, feeling every sensation of her lips upon his.

“Let’s sleep here, for the night,” she said. “I don’t want to change back just yet…”

Link nodded; it probably wasn’t the best idea, considering everything there was to do, but at the moment, he had no objections.

Yeah, less than a month between updates! A lot is happening in this chapter; I hope everyone's enjoying it. To call it out, yes, Midna and Link have indeed hooked up at this point in the story. I know some people weren't for it, and I tried to angle the plot a bunch of different ways to see what worked best, and this was the best. I like it, and I hope most of you do, as well. We'll see how the story progresses from there.
Thanks for the review; I like feedback. Next chapter will see the Snowy Temple and the Yeti couple. Should be interesting. I would LOVE to know what people are thinking so far, rants and raves, what they like and don't like. Let me hear it. Until next time, R&R and enjoy!
