Chapter 2

The chauffeur brought them from Incheon International Airport the next day towards the address where Mikaela and her grandparents lived. The car soon stopped at a rather traditional, but elegant house and both Rafael and Coleen exited from the vehicle.

Rafael was dressed in a smart business attire, with a blue tie, as well as dark blue suit with the Silvear logo pinned onto his breast pocket, and dark grey trousers as well. He wore black polished shoes as he regarded the house with a bit of disdain.

Coleen was also smartly dressed, though it was a very tame and conservative version of what she usually wore. She wore a dark blue business attire with a dark grey skirt that extended to her knees, and she had the Silvear logo on her attire as well. She carried a blue handbag, and black low heel shoes.

“These prudes do love how their houses look, don’t they brother?” She said in a cynical manner.

“How right you are, sister… unfortunately that doesn’t extend to their characters as well… but we are not here to discuss those prudes… we are here to get Kaela away from them. So let’s do a good job about it, alright?” He said as he pressed a doorbell, and a maid opened the door slightly and asked.

“Yes? May I help you sir, ma’am?”

Rafael smiled and bowed politely before speaking. “Yes of course… my name is Rafael Silvear and this is my sister Coleen.” Coleen bowed politely as well, before he spoke again. “We are here to pick up Miss Mikaela… as she is our sister-in-law. Could we meet with the Master and Mistress of the house please?”

The maid’s eyes widened before nodding and she spoke. “Oh... of course sir, madam. Right this way… I’ll take you to the main sitting room before I inform the master of your arrival.”

The both of them bowed politely in thanks as they followed the maid as she escorted them to the main sitting room, and excused herself to call on the Master and Mistress of the house.

Mikaela awoke to the sounds of busy footfall running across the wooden floors in front of her room. A maid knocked softly.

"Miss Mikaela, the House of Silvear has arrived and I am to prepare you to leave."

Mikaela quickly sat up and rubbed her eyes. She glanced a look in the mirror of her vanity. Her eyes were puffy and red and her cheeks blotchy. It was clearly evident that she had been crying.

"Come in!" She cleared her throat and called.

The maid hurried in and took a look at Mikaela. She shook her head slowly and began to slather her face with makeup. Soon, another maid came in and laid out the dress that she was to wear to present herself to the family. The dress was a simple, yet elegant dress. Conservative in the sense that it was not low cut and did not come up more than an inch above her knee. Her grandmother had sent a pearl necklace to wear along with the dress and matching small, black kitten heels. A delicate white blouse accompanied the outfit as the final touch.  Mikaela was putting on her shoes when her grandmother came in.

"Hurry up." She hissed through her teeth. "Hurry before they realize the gravity of their mistake and change their minds, you wench."

"Yes, Grandmother."

Her grandmother grabbed her arm and pulled her roughly through the corridors until they reached the door of the sitting room.

"If you cannot please these people, consider yourself disowned. I've had enough of your ungrateful attitude in this household of mine." She let go of Mikaela's arm and straightened her clothes. Mikaela's grandfather came from the other side of the house and stood next to her grandmother.

"I have no idea what you did to gather the attention of the Silvears  you whore, but if you mess it up, don't even think about coming back to this house." He growled one final time. Both her grandparents put on a smile and opened the door.

"Ah! We're so sorry about the delay! Of course, our grand-daughter is still lacking in the practice of arriving anywhere in a timely manner, forgive her."

Mikaela's grandmother jerked Mikaela through the doorway, causing her to stumble.

"Oh! She's also very clumsy!" Her grandmother gave a laugh.

Mikaela regained her composure and stood silently next to her grandparents, cheeks pink with embarrassment.

Mikaela quickly glanced up to study the young man and woman that had come to pick her up. Both were very good-looking, with an air of regality about them. But, they both also seemed vaguely familiar.  She had definitely seen the young woman somewhere, but where? It didn't matter, it was probably on the television or something, the Silvears were of high enough status to be on television every once in a while. Mikaela made eye contact with the young woman. She was taken aback by how green her eyes were, they were intense, smoldering. Mikaela quickly looked back down at her shoes.

'Those eyes... I've seen them before. And it wasn't on the television. I know those eyes. Those sharp features. But from where....'

Both Coleen and Rafael bowed politely to Mikaela’s grandparents and Mikaela, and the younger Silvear siblings studied their new sister in law carefully. She was as lovely as their brother had described, though it was obvious that she was quite distressed recently, and even Coleen could see that she had been crying recently, even if it was carefully disguised by makeup.

Rafael smiled and then said. “I must apologize for my father’s behalf first, Elder. My father was planning to come, but a sudden important business contract had just arrived and he was unable to attend this happy event, so he sent me and my sister on his behalf.”

Coleen also bowed politely, her tone demure and polite. “As for my elder brother, he is on the course of being prepared to take charge of my father’s smaller companies… and has an important board meeting today that suddenly came up. Both my father and my elder brother expresses their sincere regret of unable to be here to formalize this happy occasion, and it is their sincere hope that both of you elders would not take offense to this.”

"Oh no! Not at all! We have our own business and we are aware of sudden, important business matters. Please do tell them that we are not offended at all! We are just so glad that your family would stoop so low as to pick our grand-daughter, who is always lacking in every way, as a bride. Our grand-daughter is far from a perfect bride, she was so spoiled that not even her mother or her father wanted her. But from as you can see, out of the kindness of our hearts, we took her in and tried to raise her as a lady. She is such a lazy, girl despite all of the hard work we put towards her." Mikaela's grandmother replied. Her grandmother pinched her arm savagely, bringing Mikaela out of her thoughts.  Mikaela quietly bit her bottom lip, fighting the urge to cry.

Coleen noticed Mikaela’s distress, and nodded towards Rafael who said politely. “Honored elders… I am afraid I must take my leave with my sister and my sister in law. As you know, the trip from Incheon to Heathrow in London takes a long time, and it would not do for my sister in law to fall sick before she meets my parents and my brother, don’t you think?”

"Oh! But of course! We can't have our blushing bride looking tired when she is introduced to her in-laws for their first meetings now, can we? Hurry along Mikaela! Your new family awaits you!" Her grandparents smile at her, clearly a fake smile, roughly pushing Mikaela forward again.

"Maids! Bring her luggage out to the car, please!" Her grandmother calls.

In the scurry of everyone jumping to follow orders, her grandparents get the opportunity to sneak another nasty comment to her.

"You are extremely lucky to have found a family who won't just be using you for the whore you are meant to be. Today is a bright day because you can finally repay the debt you have to this family for being born a bastard. Good riddance. I don't ever expect to see your face again, whore." Her grandmother snarled at her, as both her grandfather and grandmother turned briskly on their heel and left the room.

But of course, her grandparents couldn't be pleasant to her up until the last day. Mikaela sighed. She thought back on all of the times she had tried so hard to please them in every which way possible, to no avail. All of her escapades had ended in failure and her grandparents scorning her existence even more.  Hot tears began to well in her eyes again; all she had wanted to do since day one was to please her grandparents. She wanted to please them so badly. How is that they could be so nasty to her up until their last day together? How is it that her mere existence was such an inconvenience to them? Mikaela quickly wiped her eyes on her sleeve, as to not mess up her makeup.

Coleen smiled gently at her sister in law, putting one hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her as she walked with her to the car, and after the baggage was loaded, the three of them entered the car and left the house behind.

Rafael then stretched himself and said in relief. “Finally, we are away from that place. I swear if I hear one more word from those prudes, I would go nuts in an instant. I mean, bad enough that they were trying to kiss ass to get into dad’s good graces through us. Not that it will help though, since they already pissed off the whole family before we even came here.”

Coleen smiled and nodded. “You are right, brother… why with the way they are belittling and demeaning Kaela here, it takes a lot of patience not to kick their ass for messing with our sis that way.” Her tone was quite hostile and venomous as she said so, but her expression had a sickly sweet smile as she did so.

Mikaela was shocked. How was it that they could see through her grandparents' façade? It definitely was not an easy task because her grandparents had perfected it down to the T. Mikeala's eyes furrow in concern. Did the house of the Silvears dislike her already? If they disliked her, then why were they taking her anyways? Mikaela's heart sank. She really was going to be a sex slave, under the title of 'wife'. She bit her lip to keep down the tears that were fighting to well up in her eyes.

Coleen then noticed Mikaela’s expression and patted her sister in law’s arm. “Oh dear, I am sorry sis. I forgot that you are here… don’t think too much about my words, alright? But seriously, those prudes you call grandparents? They do not know what a treasure they are letting go by letting you in our family.”

Mikaela was confused now. Why did it matter that she was a whore or a treasure to the family that were going to imprison her and use her? Perhaps it was a test, to see if she would take advantage of any and all opportunities of freedom. It didn't matter; she could never go back to the home of her own blood. Perhaps it would be better to be regarded as a sex toy rather than a worthless whore.

"No... The words that my grandparents speak are the truth. I am a child formed out of wedlock, whose father disappeared. Therefore, I am a bastard. Not worthy of even joining this honorable family." Mikaela blinked and looked down at her shoes. "I am not talented at anything, nor am I a good cook. All that is of worth to me is my family name."

Rafael sighed at his sister in law’s words, and even Coleen was getting pissed once again. It seems that her grandparents had done quite a number on Mikaela’s self confidence and self worth so badly that she believes that she is worthless and would never be able to do anything right and please anybody, while in fact it was just the opposite!

Even they could see that the girl was sweet, had a kind heart and was humble and not prejudiced or bigoted, which made them feel confident that she would fit into the family with some minor adjustments after she found out what they really are.

He then shook his head and said to her in a gentle manner. “That is where you are wrong sis… you are nothing like what those prudes you call grandparents describe you as. In fact, you are quite the opposite. You are kind, smart and sweet.”

Coleen nodded and added her own two cents in as well. “Yeah, and we can tell that you have a big heart and humble… and best of all you are not someone to judge people just because they behave differently or have a quirk that would seem odd to some people. You already impressed mother, and that is just by brother telling her all about you in his letters. Let me tell you, she is not easily impressed and you should take that in pride.” She said sweetly to her.

Their words of comfort brought tears to her eyes. No one, apart from Edward, had ever spoken to her in such a kindly, sweet manner to her since she had left her mother. And with this young man and young woman claiming to be her husband-to-be's siblings, there was no way that he could be the fat, greasy man she had imagined in her mind. At least the man using her would be an attractive, gentleman.

"Where is my husband-to-be? …. and this is quite embarrassing to ask.... Who is he?" She spoke quietly, in fear of offended those who had just comforted just moments ago. She could recognize the features of both the brother and sister, however no matter how hard she had thought, she could not remember where she had seen them. Especially those eyes...

Both Silvear siblings smiled as they hugged Mikaela, comforting their new sister in law as both of them said in her ear. “You are welcome, sis.”

Coleen just smiled and then shook her head, giggling slightly at Mikaela’s question and said. “Oh, our brother is at home, probably at the gym letting off some steam after he read the letter your grandparents sent dad. I swear, he usually isn’t this mad before, and I can tell he really fancies you, you lucky girl. And as to who he is… well why don’t you make a guess? You have already met him before you know.”

Mikaela blushed as her new sister-in-law mentioned how furious the family had gotten when they received the reply letter back from her grandparents. Mikaela continued to rack her brain for any sign of recognizing where she had seen her new husband-to-be.  She slowly shook her head.

Rafael just chuckled and said. “Come on sis, surely you can’t be that dense? After all, he did save you from being raped while he was on an exchange research project there…” He then gave her a teasing look and said. “… and you did give him your virginity as a token of thanks for saving you. Surely you can remember the name of the man whom you gave something so precious and important to?”

Everything came flooding back to her. How they had met, how he rescued her, and how he had looked at her as he laid her down on the grass as... Mikaela rapidly pieced the parts of the puzzle together as she realized, she was being taken to her first and only love. Edward. Edward Silvear.

'That's right. He did introduce himself as Edward Silvear.' She vaguely remembered.

"...Edward?" She whispered breathlessly.

Both siblings grinned at this and Rafael said. “Took you long enough, sis… but yes. Edward is our older brother and the eldest of the Silvear children… and the man that will be your husband once the night is through. Welcome to the family, sis.” He then gave her a hug, a warm and friendly hug that spoke much about how glad he was that she is now family.

Coleen also smiled and said gently in her ear. “Yes sister… you are now part of the family now. No matter what happens, we will all be here for you. Brother, Rafael over here… mom, dad and our extended families will make sure that you will never again worry of not being loved. It is something that our family has in abundance, and you will never again feel neglected or unloved. Trust me on this… it is one thing that we all stand for. Family… is very important to us, and right now… you are part of that as well.”

Try as hard as she might, Mikaela could not fight back the tears. All prior thoughts of the life that the fat, greasy old man brought were forgotten as she realized that she was being taken to Edward. Though this time, these tears communicated happiness. Happiness at the fact that she was now going to be loved for who she was, by a large family who didn't care about what she was.

The siblings smiled as they continued to hug their sister as she sobbed happily in their arms, until the car stopped as they arrived at the airport, and they dried Mikaela’s tears as they helped her out of the car as well as taking care of her baggage as they went to the private jet that was waiting for them.

Mikaela slowly boarded the small, private jet and her eyes widened as she took in the sights of pure luxury. She slowly ran her finger across the genuine leather seats of the plane and took a seat. As the lovely flight attendant fixed her safety belt, she looked out of the window.

This was it. She was breaking free from all of the darkness and oppression from her grandparents. Mikaela closed her eyes with a small sigh. She pictured a large, beautiful house filled to the brim with children and family, and love, sitting next to her one, true love, Edward Silvear. She was now going to be Mikaela Silvear, loved for being herself, and not scorned for being a bastard. Things were beginning to look up, and this was only the beginning.
