Chapter 2

First of all, I want to thank Sora269 for my first (and so far only) review. Looking forward to having more.

Okay, now on with the chapter!

Yosuke would have never admitted it, but he had never kissed anyone before. Sure he had a couple of girlfriends before, but none of them had been really serious about it. So when Souji pressed their lips together, his mind went immediately blank. He became lost in it, enjoying the feeling and becoming oblivious to everything else around him. Instinctively, he opened his mouth to let his partner’s tongue in. It was only a few seconds later when the thought entered his head.

“I’m kissing Souji”

Startled back to reality, he broke the kiss and stumbled backwards, falling just a few feet away from his friend. Souji’s eyes were a mix of confusion and terror, but Yosuke wasn’t in the right mindset to stop and consider his feelings.

“What the hell, man?” he nearly screamed “What was that?”

Souji opened his mouth, but no sound came from it. He only stared with his eyes wide open.

“You just kissed me! Why would you do that?”

“It was an accident..” Souji’s answer came almost as a whisper.

“An accident? You don’t kiss someone by accident! You did that on purpo…” Yosuke’s voice trailed off as a sudden thought came to him “Souji…are you gay?”

The answer never came though. Suddenly a voice was heard not far away.

“Souji! Yosuke!”

Chie, Yukiko and Teddie appeared running round the corner.

“Are you okay, Sensei?” Teddie’s voice sounded genuinely concerned “I was supporting the girls when I sensed a Shadow attacking you”

“Did you get hurt?” asked Yukiko looking at Souji’s still open shirt.

“No” said Yosuke “It was just a scratch, right Souji?”

Souji stood up, buttoning up his shirt and seemingly trying his best to act as if nothing had happened.

“That’s good to know” said Chie with a sigh “I guess it wasn’t such a great idea to split up. Should we keep going?”

“I think that’s enough for today” said Souji as he took out a Goho-M “Let’s go back”

Yousuke looked at Souji, wondering what was passing through his friend’s head at the moment. “What’s going on? Is Souji really…” He had to be. Not many guys go around kissing their best friends. ”To think that my first kiss was with a guy” Yosuke felt disappointed, yet for a split second he thought that despite everything, it had been a damn good kiss. But the thought quickly disappeared, just as the blinding light of the Goho-M engulfed them.

When the party climbed out of the TV, the electronics department was deserted as always. The store’s cheerful theme sounded through the speakers, though Souji thought that this day at Junes hadn’t been that great. He didn’t know what was going to happen to his friendship with Yosuke, but he didn’t feel like dealing with that now. He just wanted to go home, get a good night’s sleep and think of a way to get out of the mess he had gotten himself into.

“It’s getting late” he said “We should probably head home”

Everyone was tired, so they all agreed immediately.

“See you tomorrow at school!” Chie waved as she and Yukiko headed down the road to their respective houses.

“See you later” Souji avoided any kind of eye contact with Yosuke as he turned around and started walking.

“Souji, wait!”

Souji stopped cold in his track as he heard his friend catching up to him. “Crap”

“I think we should talk” said Yosuke.

“About what?” asked Souji, trying to delay the inevitable.

“You know what!” Yosuke lowered hi voice “Look, I’m sorry I freaked out like that. It just, well, took me by surprise”

He paused for a second, apparently searching for the right words.

“I just wanted to tell you that, whatever it was I don’t want it to get in the way of our friendship. I don’t care if you really are gay either. You’re one of the greatest guys I’ve ever met and you’ve become one of the best friends I’ve had. So, can we put this behind?”

Souji nodded with a weak smile “I’m sorry…”

“It’s okay” Yosuke smiled “After all, I know I’m irresistible!”

_____

A week passed and the party was finally able to rescue Kanji. Now they were just waiting for him to recover.

It was a Friday afternoon and Souji was getting ready to leave school, when Yosuke came up to him.

“Hey, partner” he said “Are you free this afternoon? There’s something I wanted to talk about”

Souji agreed.

“Okay, then follow me!”

As he followed his friend, Souji kept wondering what he wanted to talk about. Neither him, nor Yosuke had mentioned the kissing incident since that day and he had begun hoping it was all in the past. But the truth was he still thought about it constantly. He kept going back to the fact that Yosuke had kissed him back and the possible meaning behind that. He tried his best not to read too much into it, but he couldn’t help himself. After all, Souji was still madly in love wit him.

When they arrived to the hill overlooking town, the sun was already setting, giving the place a reddish-orange hue. Yosuke put his hands on the fence and stared of in the distance. Souji did the same and waited patiently for him to start talking.

“You know… I’ve changed a lot since we started with the investigation” Yosuke finally said “I used to hate this town. So few things to see and to do. Everyday the same as the last one. I almost went crazy at first”

Souji listened intently. Soon after he arrived at Inaba, he had discovered that his friends had a tendency to come to him whenever they needed to talk. He still hadn’t determined if that was a good or a bad thing…

“But now” Yosuke continued “I’m actually starting to like it. There’s still not much to do. Sure we have a murder case and a crazy world inside the TV, but I’ve found out that’s not what’s important”

The sun was now in front of them, causing them to squeeze their eyes a little.

“What’s important is the people around you” Yosuke looked at the town below them “Here I have my family, and great friends…and you”

Souji lifted up his head in confusion after having been placed in a category by himself. “What does that mean?”

“You’re special to me, you know” Yosuke’s voice was almost a whisper.

Souji turned around to face Yosuke. His friend was looking straight at him, the setting sun shining in his eyes. He felt the same shock he had felt that day inside the TV and strained to control himself. Suddenly, there was a hand behind his head forcing him closer to Yosuke’s face. His heart began racing and Souji began thinking it was all a dream when their lips met together once again. Then, he wasn’t even capable of thinking anymore.
