Chapter Two

CHAPTER TWO:

I awoke to soft moaning to my right, I looked over and instantly regretted it. Damon’s eyes were shut tightly, his face screwed up in a grimace of pleasure. One hand pinched his nipple while the other was wrapped tightly around his- ahem, never mind.
I felt myself getting aroused by this sight, I mean wouldn’t you if there was a gorgeous guy whacking off not even a foot from your body? I was sure my face was on fire, I tried to make no sudden movements as to save myself some embarrassment. To reiterate, Damn that’s hot. He chuckled, Shit.
“Jerk…” I muttered. He laughed louder which turned into a moan as I abused his nipple.
“Be careful, I might just decide to have my way with you.” I snorted. “As if you could stop me.” He had stopped all movement, eyes firmly locked on mine. His eyes softened, “As if you’d want to stop me.” My gaze narrowed. He didn’t have to say that.
I stood, face blank and expressionless. “don’t be like that.” I ignored him, stepping out into the sunlight. Today was a good day to do laundry. I grabbed the sack containing all of my dirty clothes and angrily stalked off to the hot spring.
What kind of man pleasures himself in front of a female relative stranger? His comments had brought back some bad memories of the abuse, kidnappings, and almost rape. Once I left the cities my problems melted away, at least until I met this guy. I hugged myself as I was swamped with images, bad ones masked as good, ones no one should ever have to see. Tear pooled and spilled before I could scold myself. I knew he was there, cold resolve filled my face and gave way to a blank one as the tears evaporated. I scrubbed at my clothes; blood is easier to get out when it’s fresh…
Damon sat beside me silently. I ignored him; life is so much easier that way. He wouldn’t just leave me alone, oh no.
“Cat..?” I sighed softly, giving up.
“Hmmm?” I continued to scrub, there was just this tiny bit…
“I’m sorry…”
“Why?” I said softly.
“Hmmm?”
“Why?” I said a little louder.
“What do you mean? I was making unwanted advances.”
“No, it’s not that.” I blushed, realizing what I had just admitted. “It just brought back some memories.” He frowned.
“Memories?”
“Bad, horrible, things no one should ever experience.”
“Thus my apology is justified.” I rung-out a shirt slowly.
“It’s not your fault I have these memories.” I set the shirt on my lap, looking out across the water.
“I don’t need to bring them to the surface.”
“You couldn’t have known, I barely know you.”
“What do you need to know?”
“Whatever you want to tell me.” He hugged me suddenly, I stiffened, I hadn’t seen him move.
“I’ll say whatever will make you smile.” I tried on a smile. “A real one.” My face fell as I leaned into him. It’s just not that simple. “Oui, it is.” I shook my head in defiance. “Si, it is!” I was fighting a grin. “I dare you not to smile.” I just stared at him blankly. “Damn, you win. Well, the only thing I can give as a prize is my body. Go ahead and ravish it to your hearts content.” I was fighting a grin again. “I am now a slave to your desires! What is your wish?” I looked up at him.
“Can I touch your horns?” His eyes darkened a shade.
“Only if they turn you on.” I smacked at him. He laughed loudly. “Fine, you can touch them. I lost touch with the world as I traced my hands over the spiraling spiny protrusions. They were at least a foot or so long as they curled from the top of his head. He buried his face in my neck as I traced the pattern. “Do you know how amazing that feels?” I paused then continued. I decided they were very real and continued on to feel the silky smoothness of his obsidian-black hair. His hair just brushed his shoulders; I ran my fingers through it when I felt his ears. The tips were slightly pointed like an elf.
“I can hide everything but the ears and horns.” He mumbled against my neck making me shiver.
“I like your ears, and your horns.”
“Doesn’t mean I do…”
“Why?”
“My mother.” He said as if it explained everything.
“And...?” He sighed and leaned back laying in the sandy dirt next to the water.
“My mother was half Wood-Elf and half Breton. My father was a Xivilai, ¼ one of those flying Scamps. I got the recessive genes from both, the Wood-Elf ears, yet the resistance to magic a Breton has. I got the skin tone and horns from my father’s Xivilai side and the wings and tail of the flying Scamp.”
“You have wings?” He sighed and sat up. Wings burst from his back.
“Tail too,” said tail appeared and draped itself across his lap. He stroked it fondly. “I don’t mind anything but the ears, sometimes my wings and tail get in the way, but what doesn’t?”
“I don’t care that you have all this, I accept you. You could have a third leg and I would still like you.” He grinned suddenly.
“I do have a third leg.” I looked at him in disbelief. “You’ve seen it, what? Three- Four times now?” I rolled my eyes and snorted. “Which brings me back to the point, you owe me.”
“Oh, get off it-“
“Yeah, I’ll get off on this somehow.” Yeah, the sexual innuendoes were fine and even funny most of the time. Once it got down to doing the actual thing, I was terrified. He must have seen that moment of panic on my face for I saw a question coming.
“It’s nothing.” I nipped a conversation in the bud.
“You sure?” I had a feeling like he almost knew.
“Well, it is something, it’s just not important right now, though it undoubtedly will be later.” More like I don’t feel like sharing my completely acceptable fears. Which, you could shoot down with a smile here and a reassurance there. He just looked at me puzzled.
It was heating up outside, making it a good day to move on. I laid the clothes out on the warming rocks to dry. I stood abruptly and headed off in the direction of my camp. I had so much to do; I was acutely aware Damon was following me at a silently swift pace. Once I got to camp I summoned a scamp, don’t need anything fancy to help me pack up. Once I was finished I tossed a slab of boar meat to the scamp, which devoured it gratefully. I released the scamp who had a smile plastered on its face.
“Usually the conjurer just blasts the daedroth back to Oblivion after they are finished using the creature. They certainly don’t give them their meat.” I continued to ignore him. It was my last scrap of food too. It’s worth it, I like the creatures I summon to be happy. “And I like that about you.” I leveled him with a glare. I hated when he read my mind. It made me seem like a kind person. I liked to be as distant and cold to people as possible.
“You’re just like any creature I can summon, except you are completely useless and wont go away.” He grinned venomously.
“You don’t want me to go away.” My heart gave a little stutter as the truth rang loudly through the forest. I was so angry all I could see in my tunnel vision was him. At that moment I wanted to see him fear me more than anyone in the world. I cycled through my giant list of destruction spells, trying to find the most destructive. I cast a strong spell of life detection to see within 500 feet. Nothing was around, they could feel my anger.
I shot off a Pyro’s Fury spell into the surrounding forest. Trees were alight before Thor’s Fury obliterated them, the remains cooled by Frost’s Fury. All of this happened slightly to the right of Damon. His eyes widened and then narrowed. I drew my silver claymore to use as a crutch. I was light-headed, angry and slightly insane. Don’t test me.
He didn’t have to look at the forest to know I had obliterated half of it in one go. In a moment I could obliterate the other half in no time flat. He knew, now he was aware that if I had aimed just a little more left, he would cease to exist.
“Your eyes just for a moment glowed like a flame antronach. Damn, I love a woman with power to destroy life as we know it.” His eyes started to glaze, “It there is one thing that turns me on, it’s fear.” I looked an angry question at him. “Just in that one instant you could have killed me and never saw me again. Yet you didn’t.”
“I have only killed one thing that way.” He looked at me as to go on. Rage erupted inside of me again. “He was half Xivilai and half Dremora, I summoned him on accident; I fell in love with him you see.” I spit out the words, he nodded. “He took advantage of me. Wished to use my power to destroy all who had made fun of him as a child.” My face twisted up in rage. “Then he mind fucked me. I was his slave; I killed without remorse. One thing I would not do was kill any creature I summoned. This enraged him for some reason. I was eventually brought out of my haze as time went on, I saw myself killing innocents as he slowly lost his mind to power. He tried to rape me, he came close I almost let him…” I pointed to the trees, he looked though he didn’t need to. “Then I obliterated him… The first summoned creature to never breathe air again.” A look of pure rage and hatred wiped the glazed look out of his eyes.
“If he wasn’t already dead, I’d destroy him again.” He looked up at me. “Where’s his soul?” I turned to my bag and pulled out an obsidian-black soul gem.
“I had a wraith trap him here.” He touched it, it glowed with a dark red light.
“He recognizes my blood. What was his name?” He glared at the stone, its texture slimy against his skin, the feeling of an un-pure soul.
“Jagger.” Damon’s eyes snapped up.
“This is my brother.” I looked up in shock, in that moment I was resolved to kill him to protect myself.
“This just makes me sick. I had heard he had been killed, but not who had done it.” He looked at the stone as if it were the person he was looking at. “This is no brother of mine.” There was a scream of rage from the stone as it started to crack.
“I am your elder brother, Damon. I demand you release me so I can talk to my woman.”
“I am not yours you trash.”
“Cat, sweetie, I love you. You know that! Now let me out! I’m sorry, please, I’ve learned my lesson. Please let me out!”
“Filth, scum, you aren’t even worth the words you use.” Damon snapped his fingers; a gloom wraith appeared.
‘Yesss, sssir?’
“Cardamon, can you destroy his soul?” He wandered closer.
‘Thisss is your brother, no?’
“Not anymore.” There was a cold hiss from the stone.
‘Yesss, I believe I can. If not, I can imprison him far away from you and thisss girl.’
“Thank you Cardamon.” He handed the stone over.
‘It is my pleasure sssir, madam.’ He bowed to us both and faded away into the fading light. The enraged scream faded along with the wraith.
“Don’t worry Cardamon will take care of him, he will never be seen or heard from again. He is a disgrace to daedra everywhere, I am bitter to know he is a part of my family. I will never treat you that way.” I had a hard time believing him. I had power, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I doubt I would be able to do anything without my magic. “Why do I feel you don’t believe me?”
“I don’t. I could b used as a tool of war. Seen Kavach lately?” He frowned and then blinked.
“You did that?”
“Under Jagger’s influence.” He frowned. “I have no desire to ever do anything like that again. I don’t want to think about it now, lets get moving.” I picked up my bag.
“What can I carry?” I handed him the sack with cooking supplies and the tent. “Where are we headed?”
“The Imperial City.” I shivered, “I have something I need to pick up.” He nodded. “It’s about a days walk. Lets go.” He didn’t say anything just started walking.

We had a few run-ins with creatures, mostly wolves and rats. Damon took them down with a conjured bow no problem, I shot them down with low level summons and spells. Nothing was very hard, at least until we ran into a pair of trolls in the last quarter of the journey.
I pulled out my enchanted elven bow, Medusa’s Venom, and shot off three arrows into one of the trolls. It barely seemed phased, Damon pummeled the other troll to the ground no problem. I snapped my fingers and a dremora showed up.
“Can you help me take this down?” The Caitiff nodded and drew it’s mace. I conjured a sword and jumped into the fray. The troll was quickly downed. The dremora sheathed it’s mace, I let my sword de-materialize. “Thank you, dremora.” It bowed. “A token of my gratitude…” I kissed it lightly. It grinned and licked it’s lips.
“No problem milady. You may call on me again if you wish-“
“Sphyncter?” The dremora turned.
“My lord Damon! How good it is to see you!”
“Indeed it is! How are things at home?”
“Good, good. Nothing new, oh, your ‘mother’ is pregnant with a child finally.”
“Really? How long has it been now?” He paused to think. “Fifty years?” Sphyncter nodded slowly.
“That sounds about right.”
“How old are you?” I asked slightly shocked. Screw slightly, I was dumbstruck.
“137 give or take.” I looked at him open-mouthed. I kissed a dead guy. Ewww. “Hey! I’m not dead yet!” I squinted at him. “I’m only technically 19 in human years.” He looked offended .I glared at him. “Okay, I’m 137, but I look 19, right?” Sphyncter snickered, drawing my attention.
“I should send you back to oblivion in the most painful way possible and never summon you again.”
“What did I do!?”
“You brought this little horror upon my life.”
“Uh, Damon? Who exactly is this chick?”
“Watch it Sphyncter, she’ll do it.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
“I am Cat, also known as Oblivionfires.” He blinked, crossing his arms.
“Impressive. Care to demonstrate?”
“If you value your life, no.” He frowned.
“I’ll just reappear in-“
“No you wont. Remember Jagger?” I twitched at the name.
“Yeah, he- wait. Shit! She did it?” He nodded.
“Let’s go, I’m tired. I’d like to get in the city before nightfall. Goodbye Sphyncter.” His eyes widened.
“No wait, can’t I stay-“ He was gone with the wind.
“I am not summoning any dremora for a while.” We arrived in the city just before nightfall, not having said a word the entire way.
I trudged up the stairs to the arcane university, yawning. I tripped, Damon caught me smoothly. I opened the front door and was greeted with alarmed and worried looks from the others in the lobby.
“Good night.” Stuttered replies were heard. “Damon, stop scaring the mages.” I didn’t have to look back to know what he was doing. I drug him onto the platform to go to the higher levels. I passed a few more startled mages before I got to my room. I threw myself on my bed, not bothering with my clothes; I was so tired. I almost forgot Damon existed, it was nice to be in my bed again.
“Cat?”
“Hmmm?” I mumbled, almost out of it.
“Why are we in the arch-mage’s quarters?”
“This is my room, I am the arch-mage.” I felt the shocked silence. “I rid the world of some evil and got the job after the last nutcase committed suicide in front of me.” I paused enough to turn over. “Damon?”
“Hmmm?” I smiled, Go to bed.
“Okay.” I opened part of the covers next to me. I pulled some of my clothes off, left most on. Damon slid in next to me, a respectable distance away. I pulled him closer, it just wasn’t worth fighting tonight. He cautiously put his arms around me and as I pushed myself closer he held me tighter. I drifted off with what I swear was a smile on my face. How awkwardly cliché.
