Chapter One

Chapter One

Thunder rolled through the heavily clouded sky; one could hardly tell it was morning with how dark it still was. Black angry clouds hung over the city and the surrounding area and it didn’t look like would be clearing anytime soon. It was to this that deep amethyst eyes slowly opened. The owner didn’t move; they laid there trying to figure out where they were and how they had gotten there. Slowly their situation became clear.

They were in a very large bed, a king, wrapped in soft sheets and blankets. The window they faced was cracked open and had thick curtains pulled open to each side. They slowly sat up to look at the rest of the room, and by doing so it came to them that they weren’t wearing the same thing they had been yesterday. They looked around the room and spotted the tattered remains of their clothes on the dresser.

It was at this point that the door to the room opened and in walked a shirtless platinum blonde male, an amulet with a pink stone at its center hung around his neck. He was dressed in baggy brown leather pants. He had fingerless gloves on each hand and was barefoot.

“I was wondering when you’d wake up,” he said as he leaned against the door frame. “You were out for a good twelve hours. Though I don’t blame you, you looked pretty roughed up.”

Amethyst eyes narrowed. “Where am I and who are you?” she asked in a growl.

The male gave a cocky grin, “Now is that the tone you should have towards someone you don’t know?”

“Depending on the circumstances, yes. Now, answer my question.”

The male threw his hands up as if in surrender, but the cocky grin stayed in place. “Alright, alright…relax. No need to bite my head off…You’re at my place. I figured I bring you here until you woke up and then I’d send you on your way. As for who I am,” his grin grew, “that’s for me to know and you to find out. Sorry, sweetheart, but I don’t give my name to girls that growl and bite.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “Now, I have a question or two for you.”

The girl straightened. “Alright, but I may or may not answer…depends on how I feel,” she answered, throwing his cocky attitude right back at him.

He grinned. This girl was going to be one hell of a spit fire. “Fair enough…My first question is where did you come from? From what remained of your clothing I could tell you weren’t from hear. My second question is who are you?”

“In order; I come from a city called Consolas, a six hour drive north from here, and that’s for me to know and you to find out,” again, cockiness was in her voice. The grin on the male’s face grew; it was going to be one hell of a party if this chick stayed around.

Noon came and the weather still hadn’t cleared up, and it didn’t give any signs it would. Within the three hours that the girl had been awake, she had figured out the name of her rescuer, that he had the blood of both a demon and human running through his veins, the amulet around his neck was from his mother, and that the picture on his desk was of his mother. And what had he learned about her besides what she had told him? Not a damn thing. He cursed is rotten luck at poker

Dante sat at his desk annoyed. How was it that she was immune to his good looks and charming ways he used to try and get information out of her? He chewed angrily at his pizza watching as she practiced with a sword he had on the wall; her lithe body and midnight hair swaying in fluid movements. Though he wouldn’t tell her, he was impressed with her skill. She was graceful, but he knew that she was deadly. One miss-step around her and she’d slice you.

“You going to watch me all day or are we going to spar?” Her voice brought him from his thoughts. Dante looked up to find her standing at the other side of his desk, sword over her shoulder and hand on her hip. “Well?”

Dante grinned and tossed the piece of pizza back into the box. “Sparing, huh?” He thought for a second. And then gave his trademark grin. “Sure I’ll spar with you, but I like to get rough.”

“Alright then, let’s play.”

Dante walked around his desk moving towards his trusted sword. He paused and turned to her. “Let’s make this interesting. If I win, you tell me your name and pay for dinner.”

“Fine, but if I win?”

“You can move in with me free of charge and do whatever you little heart wants.”

The girl smirked, her eyes burning with something dangerous. Dante’s grin grew; he knew he was going to enjoy this. He picked up Rebellion from where it sat leaned against the wall and made his way to stand in front of the girl; she was already in a sparing stance. Dante stopped a few feet short of her. “Ready when you are, princess.”

“Heh…alright…my move!” With that she charged at him, sword swinging in a deadly arch, but Dante blocked the blow. Sparks rained onto the floor as metal met metal. Dante was surprised by the force of the blow. For being only five feet, the girl was a deadly force not to be messed with. But Dante was feeling like his usual cocky and confident self and decided to push her buttons.

“I have to admit I’m impressed. I’ve never met a small fry that could be so deadly, and a girl at that.”

“Really? Well let me also be the first small fry girl to kick your ass…” she pushed away from him, but Dante followed, not allowing her a break. His own blow was blocked; again sparks lit up and fell.

The spar grew more and more intense as time went on. Neither Dante nor the girl let up, both were out to win the spar and it didn’t matter what they had to do to win. Anyone watching the fight would have a hard time telling who was winning; as soon as one would get one up, the other would come back with vengeance and things would be equal again.

Sweat had begun to build up on Dante’s forehead and bare chest; he was getting some serious exercise from this. He glanced at the girl; she, too, was beginning to sweat. He could see the little droplets rolling down the exposed part of her chest. His eyes wandered a little lower and he watched as her breasts rose and fell with each breath she took. Something stirred inside him and he felt his lower area give a twitch. He mentally growled at himself; that shit wouldn’t help him. He gave his head a quick shake to clear his mind and put on his trademark smirk.

“You getting tired, princess?” Dante asked her. “You’re breathing kinda heavy.”

The girl snorted. “Says the guy who’s in the same condition. As a matter of fact, I’m fine. I just haven’t had a good sparing partner in a long time. I find this all to be very exciting.”

Dante gave a laugh. “That’s good to hear because I didn’t plan on letting you off that easy anyway.”

The girl gave him her own smirk. “Good, because then I’d really have to kick your ass.”

With that they charged at each other, the meeting blow sending shockwaves through the swords and their bodies. Dante’s blue eyes met the deep amethyst eyes of his beautiful yet deadly opponent. There was something in those eyes that he had seen before, something he knew that he himself had felt before. But he couldn’t put his finger on what it was.

But it was this slight distraction that cost him the spar. The girl broke away and swung before Dante registered what was going on. Rebellion flew from his hands and landed on the other side of the room, skidding across the floor and under his desk. The point of her sword pointed at his chest. He raised his hands in surrender, no point challenging his loss; she had won fair and square.

The girl gave him a smirk and lowered the sword. She turned and went to replace the sword from where she had gotten it. She then made her way towards the bathroom. Pausing in the door way, she turned to him.

“Valentina.”

Dante looked at her, confused at the one word. “What?”

“Valentina, that’s my name. If I were to be more accurate my full name is Valentina Marie Caspian, III.” With that she went into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Dante just stared at the door, suddenly confused, but then the door swung open and Valentina stood in the door way, a large grin on her face. “Oh, and since I’m living here now, we’ll need to fix up your other room for me.”

The door closed again, leaving Dante standing in the middle of the room confused. Then it hit him. “Fucking son of a bitch!”
