A new friend
A/N: Yeah I know this is taking a while to get to the actual plot, but since I'm changing Link from the good guy to the bad guy, I have to have some explanation of what he goes through to make him evil. As for the idea of Volvagia being Link's pet, it's from the Ocarina of Time manga. Check it out at http://www.onemanga.com
Chapter 2: A new friend
The entire time I had spent gathering those final two stones for the annoying brat of a princess, I was thinking only of the man called Ganondorf. Even only seeing his face that once was enough to make me fight, if only to see him once more.
The Dodongo Cavern? I had only gotten rid of them because their "king" tried to eat me. Even though I hadn't done it for those fools the Gorons, they believed I did and were willing to give me the stone. Certainly wasn't about to argue with them after getting the ruby and merely decided to keep it. When I had been walking back to Hyrule Castle Town in order to collect more supplies, there was a simple peddler trying his best to get people to buy the items he hocked.
I had slowly stepped towards the man's cart, hesitantly looking over some weapons and items for warriors. A small growl caught my attention and my eyes had fallen on a small and cute red dragon. Bright emerald eyes watched my every movement as smoke rose from its' nostrils.
"Want ta buy 'im?" The voice startled me until I looked at the peddler. "He be 'bout seventy ruppees."
I had untied the leather pouch that held my spoils from my bag and shook out the contents. Once the peddler counted out seventy ruppees from my minuscule pile, he handed me the cage that held the beast; could have mentioned how heavy a baby dragon was.
By the time I dragged the beast and the cage out into the fields outside of the castle, I unlocked the cage with the key that hung on the cage's handle. The dragon slid out of the cage and merely sat far enough away in order to study me. Just as I reached my hand out to pet the red serpent...
"Ow! What did you that for?!" I quickly cradled my injured hand, thankful that there wasn't much blood and there was no broken bones to tend to. The dragon merely watched me, tail flicking back and forth. With a growl directed towards the evil thing, I carefully tended to my harmed hand. Soon a heavy and heated tongue was licking at some of the bite marks. Deep green eyes had met my own, the dragon seeming honestly sorry with how it had hurt me. I smiled and patted the beast upon the head.
"I should name you, but what name would really suit you?" Sliding back down onto the grass, I could feel the dragon's heavy and warm body curl up beside me. As I thought, I recalled one of the villagers in Kakariko mentioning that there was once a vicious dragon named Volvagia. A smile crept over my lips before I sat up, my new "pet" following suit. "Your name is Volvagia. I really think it's suits you." Volvagia uttered what seemed like a content growl before bounding off to chase a wayward poe. Night was going to come soon and I had spent the entire day traveling down Death Mountain, then from Kakariko to Hyrule Castle Town. Without any place to really go, I had called Volvagia over to my side and found a tree close to the water where we could remain safe from the Stalchildren.
The crowing of Cuccos woke the two of us up. I had nearly tripped and fell into the river beside me when Volvagia had bounded over to get a drink. Of course I knew that I couldn't take Volvagia with me to find the third Spiritual stone. I should have just remained with the dragon rather than following Zelda's demands. Practically having to carry the heavy beast, I was finally able to get Volvagia to the foot of Death Mountain. We looked into each other's eyes before I grabbed my things to leave. "Go on, Volvagia...stay in the mountains since it'll be better for you. People won't be able to find you and I'm sure the Gorons won't mind you having out in a place like Dodongo's Cavern."
Two steps; all I took was two steps before I was bowled over from Volvagia slamming his head into the back of my legs. He pinned me down with his forepaws, licking my face to elicit a laugh from me. When I was able to push him off of me, I merely smiled and patted his ebony head. "I'll come back for you in a few days. Just let me finish my mission to the princess and then we can spend all of our time together." He let me leave, but I regret abandoning him for seven long years.
I am not going into any details of traveling through the digestive system of Jabu-Jabu, it was hellish and something I never wanted to suffer through ever again. Of course Princess Ruto seemed to believe that she was in love with me, no matter how much I tried to run from her at that moment.
With all three stones, I had been able to return to Hyrule Castle in a day's travel, hoping to hand Zelda the stones, then relax with Volvagia, possibly even bring him home to the Kokiri Forest. Of course the darkened skies around the castle and the rain only seemed to bode of danger. I only caught sight of Zelda and her attendant flying by on a pristine white horse, something being flung from the princess's hand to land within the moat. I wanted to scream out at the princess abandoning me; the snorting of another horse stopping me. Turning slowly, I came to see the man whom had taken my breath away a week earlier. Ganondorf. Even to this day, I still enjoy whispering the name. I wanted to throw down my sword and shield; to jump into his awaiting arms and be treated as someone who was loved by him. All I had gotten in return was a blast of magic concentrated at my chest. The wind was knocked out of me and I swore that my heart stopped for a moment. Ganondorf merely laughed at my weakness before spurring his stallion in the direction that Zelda had fled in.
I was left alone and a little heartbroken; Ganondorf thought I was weak, but I would prove him wrong. When I had held the Ocarina that Zelda had thrown me, her voice echoed in my mind to go to the temple I had seen in the town. Reaching the temple was simple, no one would ever really argue a young child going to the temple if they wanted to pray.
I licked my lips, wetting them enough to play the song I was told to play, the stones rising up from the pouch I kept them in and the heavy "Door of Time" opened and gave way to the inner chamber. My steps were quiet, but still echoed in the vast empty room; the only thing inside was the sword embedded within the pedestal. I gripped onto the hilt, pulling with all the strength I could muster; light surrounded me and then all went black.
A/N: Next chapter will have the Forest and Fire temples! And yes, Link had the hots for Ganondorf since he was 10. Remember to read and review!
