A Friend Came Calling
In the forests of Japan, Ryu had spent ten years studying his martial arts. he had been training with the person who was now his closest friend. Ken was the only person he spent his time with during those ten years, as he rarely ever saw his master by face.
It was a cold winters night, and it was raining hard. Ryu was sitting in the cabin he shared with Ken. All that was there was a table, two chairs and the two beds he and Ken used during the night. Ken was outside, training with the wooden dummies. Ryu focused his mind and allowed his strength to even out through his body. Suddenly the door opened.
“Ryu, what are you doing?” Ken asked. Ryu didn't respond straight away. he was still focusing. He finished his exercise and came back to reality. He looked at Ken. His red martial arts gear was drenched, and Ken's hair was stuck to his face.
“Ken, have you ever considered that there is more to martial arts than basic fighting? That perhaps the mind needs to be trained as well?” Ryu asked. Ken didn't respond. He simply shut the door and walked over to his bed.
“You're probably right Ryu, but at the same time, I want to learn to be strong.” Ken answered. “To be able to defeat those who would try and hurt me, because I have lived enough of my life wondering when the next bully will attack. But at the same time, I am learning the discipline to not attack people randomly.” Ken sat down at the table. He looked over at the small fireplace they had and then stirred the embers.
“What is on your mind Ken?” Ryu asked as he got up and went to his bed. “You seem to want to say something, but I am not totally sure if it is to me, or to the master.” Ryu sat on his bed and removed his footwear. Ken was silent for a little while. He was watching Ryu undress in the corner of his eye. The strong man who was his only friend for the next nine years to come.
“It is just this suppressing of sexuality. I am wanting someone to be close to.” Ken said. He looked at Ryu who was now just wearing his underwear. “And I was thinking I might be getting closer to you in some way more than friends. If you understand me.” Ken finished. He was waiting for Ryu to either hurt him or to acknowledge what he was saying.
“Only you know what path to take Ken. I won't say no, but I won't say yes either.” Ryu answered. He climbed into bed. “It's getting late and our master has a lot planned for us tomorrow. I highly suggest sleeping.” Ryu said. He rolled over. He didn't tell Ken that he had already suppressed his sexual feelings for anybody. And with that, he left Ken to get into his bed and blow out the lanterns.
