Part Two
Hidden Joys Part Two
This fiction takes places after Hidden Joys Part One.

After a while of walking from the cave, Rouge noticed some creatures living on Angel Island that she had never seen before. “What are they?” Rouge asked pointing at a big bear-like creature. “They are called ‘Booma’. There are also ‘Gobooma’ and ‘Gigobooma’ and they tend to hunt in groups so we should get going.” Knuckles responded. Their slow walk quickened. Rouge looked over to a cave with a few wolf-like creatures sleeping outside of it “And them?” she nervously asked. “They are Savage Wolves. The blue ones are the leaders. Luckily they are nocturnal creatures. But still…” They were both going at a slow jog now. “How did these creatures get here?” Rouge again asked Knuckles. “I don’t know but it could be something to do with Chaos’s rage infecting the local animals thousands of years ago.” Knuckles shrugged.
They were almost at the end of the forest, when there was a huge skeleton lying at the cliff face. Rouge looked at Knuckles but didn’t say anything. His face went pale. And then weird monkey-like noises were coming from everywhere. “Right, Rouge, now when I say run as fast as you can to that cliff there…NOW!” Knuckles whispered then shouted. They were now running as fast as they could towards the cliff. Horrible, spiny, scarlet and yellow monkeys appeared and began to chase the two of them. Rouge was now terrified, Knuckles was looking as to how many where there. There was about 10-15 he counted.
“What do we do now?” Rouge screamed to Knuckles when they got to the cliff. “Well, I’m going to get you as far up this cliff as I can.” Knuckles replied. “Huh? Whoa!” Rouge cried. Knuckles had now thrown her to about the middle of the cliff. “Don’t look down!” Knuckles shouted to Rouge. Rouge got to the top of the cliff and looked at what Knuckles was doing. The various Gibbons had surrounded Knuckles had had him cornered. “Oh no…they are going to tear him apart.” She thought to herself. Knuckles had some how managed to get a safe enough distance from the Gibbons. Whenever one went forward it got a square punch in the face. They almost seem to communicate to each other. Knuckles’s eyes were looking all around him. Then about five Gibbons rushed forward. Knuckles jumped to avoid the initial attack and dived down again, punching one of them at the back of the neck. It fell lifeless. The Gibbons attacked with added vengeance on Knuckles, clawing and swiping on his body. He managed to kill two more Gibbons by snapping one of their necks and then using the spines of the dead one to impale it. The remaining Gibbons backed off and almost seem to laugh at Knuckles. Knuckles he was in bad shape, he was cut across the chest, arms and back. None of the cuts seem to be deep but he was loosing blood.
“It won’t be long now” Knuckles thought to himself. He held his chest wounds with his right arm. He looked around. The Gibbons weren’t attacking him. “What is going on?” Rouge thought “Knuckles! Get up here while you have a chance!” She screamed at him. He looked up. “Get away from here Rouge! They can jump up that high!” He shouted back. His attention turned back to the howling Gibbons. “Why aren’t they coming for me?” he pondered. Then he saw why. A huge creature seemed to land in front of Knuckles. “What is this monster?” he thought. “Those researchers had said something about some huge footprints found in the forest though and this must be it!” It roared at Knuckles, it had rotten breath; the whole thing seemed to be covered in fur and looked like a huge mountain goat with oversized horns. It swung at Knuckles; he was able to dodge it. It thumped the ground in anger, Knuckles was caught of balance by this and fell. The monster jumped to where Knuckles was but Knuckles was able to tunnel just before it landed. He rested in the dirt. “I can’t defeat this thing!” he whimpered. Again the monster thumped the ground again it dislodged the dirt for Knuckles’s tunnel. “I’ve got to get out of here now!” he sighed.
He jumped right into the underbelly of the beast. The thing roared in pain and jumped back from Knuckles’s uppercut. It roared again. Huge globs of saliva were being thrown from its mouth, yellow teeth and rotting flesh was in its gargantuan mouth. Knuckles stepped back towards some of the Gibbons and they held Knuckles, The monster pounced towards Knuckles and the Gibbons. Knuckles was then able to jump away from the attack. It instantly killed the Gibbons that had held Knuckles. Knuckles then made his attack while the dead bodies of its comrades were still on its hands and wrists. A hard right punch to its left eye closely followed by a left punch to a similar area made sure that it was completely blind in its left eye. Knuckles jumped back from the attack and then kept to its left side. It was bleeding out of its eye; it couldn’t seem to track Knuckles down. Knuckles just kept on jumping in the monster’s blind spot. “Do you want to give up?” shouted Knuckles. “As if it understands me!” he thought.
Rouge was completely surprised at what Knuckles had done. The tides had seemingly turned for Knuckles. They were circling each other. The pain of his injuries had caught up with Knuckles though, his place slowed. The thing was up against the cliff bottom. Rouge thought that maybe she could attack the monster and maybe finish it off. She took to the air. Knuckles caught a glimpse in his eye and looked straight up. “No! Don’t!” he screamed at Rouge. The monster looked up and jumped. “What in hell?” Rouge thought “That thing can’t reach me?” It did though and it took a couple of swipes at Rouge before it landed on the top of the cliff. “Shit!” cried Knuckles and began to climb to the top of the cliff. It was jumping and taking shots at Rouge. Every time it landed it seemed to make the rock face weaker. Knuckles looked down and the Gibbons were following him. “This thing doesn’t seem to be taking me seriously at all!” Rouge thought. Knuckles was now almost at the top and the monster was thumping the ground. The cliff face collapsed and Knuckles struggled to get to the top. Something in Rouge’s mind clicked and she shouted “It’s a trap Knuckles!” and she swooped down near the monster to distract it and swooped away again. Knuckles was still tired from the climb up and didn’t understand what was going on and the monster punched Knuckles back to the bottom of the cliff. The thing roared in delight.
When Knuckles landed he bounced hard and then hit a tree. “No, I didn’t give him enough time.” cried Rouge “He is done for.” She was now hiding behind some rocks at the top of the cliff face now. It was still celebrating. It jumped down and looked at the rubble. It seemed to howl in mourning over the Gibbons that had been killed by the fall and the rubble. It heard some groaning nearby and it focused on Knuckles. Knuckles felt that he had been broken in half. He couldn’t even sit up let alone stand. Every joint in his body ached. Knuckles didn’t have time to feel what damage the fall had done to him because the beast was plodding towards Knuckles. As it tried to hit Knuckles he kept on spinning away. Knuckles hadn’t used the spin attack in a while but he didn’t know what else to prevent the creature from killing him. He looked around and there was a cave he thought maybe a surprise attack might help. He spin dashed into the cavern. Rouge was now looking at the fight again. “He’s trapped himself” she thought. And flew down and kept some distance from the fight.
The monster wandered in and couldn’t find Knuckles. Knuckles used whatever was left of his body and dived onto the back of the monster and thumped the back as hard as he could. The thing bucked and bucked but then stopped and fell onto one side. Knuckles had done it. He had broken its vertebrae he kept on thumping until it had breathed its last breath. Rouge ran up to whatever was left of Knuckles. He was breathing hard and was lying to one side. She shook her head “I’m going to regret saving you!” She sighed. She picked him up “Sheesh, your heavy!” she groaned. And then she began to fly up to the top of the cliff. She had forgotten about her wing and began to feel the pain of flying around. She breathed in sharply and gritted her teeth until she got to the top.
Rouge took Knuckles up to the top of the cliff. He stumbled onto his feet and then fell to his knees in pain. “Are you OK?” Knuckles asked Rouge. Rouge’s jaw dropped “I cannot believe you Knuckles! You took on that thing and you asked me if I’m ok! I’m fine you idiot!” “Good” Knuckles groaned. “I don’t understand you sometimes!” Rouge sighed. Knuckles laid back and moaned in pain. Rouge looked at Knuckles, Knuckles’s body normally crimson now had purple bruises and was covered with his own blood “There’s some shelter nearby Knuckles” she asked softly. “I think that’s best.” He answered. “Ok, you rest here for a moment, while I will get a fire started. Knuckles fell asleep. Rouge worked all day gathering the firewood and setting a rock circle in the cave for the fire to light without any danger to them. When she had finished she muttered “I hope he better appreciate this” she then lit the fire and set off to wake the echidna up.
“Hey you get up!” pouted Rouge she had her arms to her hips “I’m not waiting for you all day!” Knuckles opened one eye. He then began to get up, he stood for a second and then he collapsed. “I’m…sorry…Rouge…” he groaned. She then cast a sympathetic eye at Knuckles. “He did kill that thing though! And the cave isn’t that far away” she thought. She saw him struggling to get up “Come on then” she said as she picked him up “Use me as support!” she commanded. He shuffled forward, every step he groaned. When they got to the cave he fell again. She shook her head “He’s not going to make it through the night” she pondered to herself. She turned him on to his back. “Use some of this!” Knuckles said. It was that ointment that Knuckles had used on Rouge. “You never know it might help!” he chuckled then coughed. “Okay then” she replied. She generously massaged the ointment on his cuts. Every rub she heard a sharp intake of breath from Knuckles. When she had finished she heard a weak “Thanks” before Knuckles’s eyes glazed over and he fell asleep again. “That’s ok.” Rouge then said softly.
Her cyan eyes never left Knuckles’s face. The fire crackled and seemed to dance around her target. Rouge was a confused mess and decided to enter into deep thought but everything she was thinking of was leading to Knuckles. “Do I love you?” she thought looking at the unconscious echidna. Rouge had stayed up all afternoon, night watching the sun and the moon seemingly dance around each other, hoping Knuckles would come round. She sat, huddle next to the roaring fire. Her eyes squinted and whispered “Yes I do. Don’t die.”
The morning sunlight was greeted by Rouge deciding to try and look for some food for her and Knuckles when she found a small orchard with all of the trees giving their fruits. She leaned against a tree and slumped to the floor looking at the entrance to the cave with Knuckles inside. “What have I let myself in for?” she thought to herself. “I can’t…say I…love him…after all that we’ve been through together.” Rouge sighed and then smiled and thought “Or it could be the best thing I have ever done. It is obvious that Knuckles cares for me, and he is a great lover.” Her eyebrow began to pulsate for some reason she couldn’t understand. “Maybe I should just let things go as they are intended for the moment.” Rouge thought before getting up and gathering some fruit from the trees before returning to Knuckles’s side in the cave.

Well if you were looking hoping for naughty things to happen they didn’t…Sorry. I was going to but then I realised that Knuckles had been in a heck of a fight and then I thought that I don’t want a case of Rouge and her magic vagina so probably something will happen in part three. I also decided to write some mushy stuff to see if I was any good at it. If you hadn’t noticed I used the various animals from the Phantasy Star Online universe. I also planned a bit more action in this chapter than the first one. The monster Knuckles faced was a Gibbles. Anyone who was played Phantasy Star Online Episode Two knows how epic a fight with that mountain goat/bull/monkey/bastard thing can be.
